Né le 2 octobre 1957, à Jadotville (aujourd'hui Likasi) au Congo, Janry passe les dix premières années de sa vie en Afrique. Lorsqu'il débarque à Bruxelles avec ses parents en 1967, le jeune garçon est déjà un dessinateur compulsif. Pour discipliner ce talent évident pour les images, il s'inscrit dans une école d'arts graphiques et fait ses premières armes dans les fanzines. Adolescent, il fait la connaissance de Stéphane De Becker et de son futur comparse Philippe Tome. Devenu assistant de Dupa, c'est Tome qui le remplace lorsqu'il doit accomplir son service militaire. Une fois revenu de ses obligations, Janry rejoint Tome avec qui il forme un duo prometteur. Assistants de Turk et De Groot, le duo est remar Pseudonym of Jean-Richard Geurts.

Adolescent, il fait la connaissance de Stéphane De Becker et de son futur comparse Philippe Tome. Devenu assistant de Dupa, c'est Tome qui le remplace lorsqu'il doit accomplir son service militaire. Une fois revenu de ses obligations, Janry rejoint Tome avec qui il forme un duo prometteur. Assistants de Turk et De Groot, le duo est remarqué par le rédacteur en chef de Spirou, Alain de Kuyssche, qui leur propose d'animer une page ludique hebdomadaire: Jeureka. À deux, ils réalisent une histoire courte intitulée La voix sans maître qui leur vaut l'honneur d'être choisis, à 23 ans à peine, pour reprendre la série ?Spirou et Fantasio". Alternant aventure, science-fiction, polar humoristique, le duo apporte une magnifique dynamique à la série ?Spirou et Fantasio? qui connaît alors des records de popularité.

En 1987, ils racontent l'enfance espiègle de leur héros dans "Le Petit Spirou", nouvelle coqueluche des lecteurs du journal. En 1990, Janry s'octroie une récréation en écrivant les gags de la série "Passe-moi l'ciel" dessinée par Stuf. En 1998, pour leur dernière apparition comme titulaires de la série ?Spirou et Fantasio?, Tome & Janry font glisser leur héros vers un univers inquiétant et futuriste qui marque les esprits avec son titre énigmatique : "Machine qui rêve".
Depuis cet album charnière, Janry poursuit avec gourmandise son travail sur "Le Petit Spirou" et "Passe-moi l'ciel". En 2013, il met son imparable dessin au service d'une nouvelle série née de l'imagination de l'écrivain éric-Emmanuel Schmitt : "Les Aventures de Poussin Ier".

En compagnie de Tome, Janry a réalisé près de trente albums de "Spirou" (petit ou grand), mettant son dessin vif au service du groom le plus célèbre de la bande dessinée. On lui doit également les séries "Passe moi le ciel" avec Stuf et "Poussin Ier" écrite par Eric- Emmanuel Schmitt. ...more
