Futala Lake in Nagpur
Futala Lake, among my hometown Nagpur's most famous landmarks, was once the wintering ground for migratory waterbirds and waders. Today it is marked by a concrete embankment, a musical fountain, and deforestation along its peripheries. Activists and environmentalists from the city have been campaigning against this transformation.

Irulas win the Padmashri
Vadivel Gopal and Masi Sadaiyan, members of the snake-catching Irula community, were among the 106 Padma awardees on this Republic Day (26th January). The duo has not only led snake-catching operations in India but also advised snake expeditions abroad!
Despite playing a critical role in saving thousands of lives each year from snakebites, Irulas who have been the backbone of the antivenom supply in India, have faced caste-based injustices over decades.
The comic appears in my column with The Hindu Sunday Magazine. A couple of years back, I wrote and illustrated a short comic book on snakebite awareness called ‘Making Friends with Snakes’ in collaboration with the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and renowned herpetologist Mr. Romulus Whitaker, which is available via Pratham Books and Storyweaver. The book was a recipient of the Green Literature Festival Award, 2021.

Keystone Species Awards
Did you know that the total biomass of the Antarctic Krill, at 379000000 tonnes, is the largest animal biomass of any species on earth? And it is this tiny organism that sustains the entire continent of Antarctica (as well as other landmasses in the Southern Ocean).
I first came to know of this astonishing piece of trivia when I illustrated a panoramic habitat representation of the Antarctic Peninsula for Save Our Seas Foundation . Read more about how all life on Antarctica, right from tiny petrels to gigantic Humpback Whales, link back to the Antarctic Krill in the food web, on the article accompanying the illustration.
That’s one organism that ‘kreally’ deserves an award (and the limelight!)
The comic is a part of my ongoing collaboration with Europe’s leading news channel DW for their social media page.

Ganga Cruises and the Gangetic Dolphin
Dredging and noise pollution associated with the newly launched luxury cruises in the Ganga are expected to make the already critical situation for Gangetic Dolphins a lot worse. Endangered and threatened by pollution and habitat loss, the Gangetic Dolphin is India's National Aquatic Animal.
