Welcome to Twisted’s Weekly Themed Writing Challenge

Each week between now and the close of submissions, we are going to throw out a writing challenge for the community. A theme if you like. You can still write and submit any story to Twisted50, and at any time of course, but the themed weekly writing challenge will offer some focus and a writing deadline for all of us Twisted writers to work toward. The new challenge will go live every Thursday…

Talent has no value if people don’t know you, or do know you, but don’t feel that essential connection. Relationships are the fuel of the Film and TV industry. And I get it. Roger Corman: The Inspiration Behind A Generation

‘Every film would be improved by removing 15 minutes and adding a helicopter explosion.’ I have yet to hear a more incisive and fundamentally true quote from any filmmaker. Roger Corman was the granddaddy of the ‘fuck it, let’s do it’ generation of filmmakers that I stand shoulder to shoulder with. No resources, connections or even an idea of how to do it, but a fire in the belly and lashings of…

Dealing With Analogue Documents in a Digital World

The time has come. I have a stack of boxes of paperwork I just can’t carry around any more. They are from projects spanning the last 30 years and in truth I likely don’t need the paperwork at all. But still. Should I toss contracts? Urghhh. Hence them moving from shelf to shelf every few years. So. I bought myself a super fast document scanner, the Canon DR F120, and it’s pretty…

Turns out… It REALLY is more about who you know

A recent post led with the headline, Study Finds Artists Become Famous through Their Friends, Not the Originality of Their Work. It’s something I have known for a long time, a bitter pill for many of us in the industry, but also a VERY clear and direct path to success, if we choose it. I am sharing this article ahead of my sold out one day Networking Masterclass for writers and filmmakers…

Magic, Mysticism and Meaning: Screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin

At the last online Screenwriters Festival I interviewed Bruce Joel Rubin, who wrote Brainstorm, Ghost and Jacob’s Ladder. His work was profoundly impactful on me, as often it examines the veil between this life and the next. The session is fascinating for writers who want to deep dive into meaning and a great listen. If you have never seen Jacob’s Ladder, rent it tonight, it’s a reminder that…
