So You Want to Kill Yourself
Psychic pain, that feeling of torment that exists in the emotional part of the brain, can be every bit as debilitating as the physical variety. With few exceptions humans are wired to fight for life. Try to hold someone’s head under the water and you will witness a mighty fight for breath. The need to breathe is located in the deepest recesses of our central nervous system in the brainstem. It is an unconscious drive; we don’t have access to it save the ability to slow or speed up the rate.
