NO TITLE
Here is a blog post of all of the beginnings of blog posts I never finished for one reason or another. Someone needed something from me or I started boring myself or I got hungry. I pasted them together in a sort of Quilt of Nonsense. Enjoy!
Yesterday, I had the good fortune to attend the Broadway theatrical triumph “Max and Ruby” with my daughter’s kindergarten class. The show itself was a tour de force! This earnest portrayal of the life of a brother and sister bunny, Max and Ruby, tells the s

Writers and Readers in or near Greenwich, CT
I will be “teaching” a master class called Memoir: Balancing Life’s Ups and Downs that will deal with pacing and humor in writing at the Greenwich Arts Council in association with Just Books in Greenwich, CT. Thursday, April 23rd from 10:00 am -12:00 pm.
It’s a Master Class so expect to see me wearing a cap and gown and a monocle. I am actually really looking forward to this — I think it will be fun and educational! (wink!) There will be HANDOUTS!

I Heart Book Groups
I love Curtis Sittenfeld’s New York Times Book Review essay from 2006 on visiting book groups. I have had the great honor of being asked to a few book group discussions about Please Excuse My Daughter and it’s always a real treat. Even when it’s bad. I went to a book group in New Jersey with about twenty women who all seemed like they could have been me. At the end of the talk one of the women who wasn’t a normal member –a visiting guest– raised her hand and said, “Are we allowed to say we

Affairs of the Schedule
I recently heard about a friend of a friend who was having an affair. A really major hotsy-totsy, bed and breakfasts, Cancun beaches and Calypos cover-ups affair. I’ve been obsessing over this woman that I’ve never met. I just keep thinking, “How on God’s green earth does a married woman with three kids in school and dogs and laundry have the time for an affair?”
The way I see it, even if I wanted to have an affair, which I DO NOT, I simply couldn’t fit it into my schedule (my husband was fille

Children stories
As a parent who is also still a person, I’m very conscious of people not necessarily wanting to hear my cute kid stories. In fact, the only person I tell them to no-holds-barred is my husband who is actually (coincidentally) also the father of my (at times) cute kid.
I was at lunch with my friend Lizzie a few weeks ago and she told me a story about her nephew. Usually these are even worse than parent’s stories —more along the line of grandparent’s stories or the inane Metropolitan Diary stories

Oscar Pools
I used to partake in an Oscar pool with my friend Barbara and her family. Year after year, whether I’d see the films or not, I’d win. Sometimes I’d intentionally put down a crazy answer to lose, and no, I’d still win. It got ridiculous. (I did have a foolproof method for picking the documentaries –any one that had a colon and/or children in the title i.e. Tea Bags: Children of the Kettle)
Three years ago I was walking my dogs and I thought, “The only luck I ev

Status symbol
Thanks to Virginia Heffernan for bestowing an unprecedented honor on me in the New York Times Magazine this weekend. I am pretty humbled to be called the Best Status Updater on Facebook as I hang out with a goodly number of amazing status updaters (I tip my hat to Strawberry Saroyan, Patrick Brown, Claudia Glaser-Mussen), and of course those mentioned in the article.
The question that is plaguing me is how can I profit from this? No, really, it’s how can I use my power for good instead of evil?
