Release Day: Written in Scars

Today is the day. I'm delighted to say my new release Written in Scars is available as an ebook from Amazon today. I loved writing the story of Logan and Sam and hope you enjoy reading it. Let me know what you think and don't forget to post your reviews at Amazon and Goodreads.

Pain fades but the scars remain.
When Logan Crawford, a former war correspondent turned best-selling author, appears on TV to promote his latest thriller, he is knocked out by his fellow guest, Sam Radcliffe. Logan’s travels around the world have opened his eyes to many things, but nothing as attractive as the man he meets that night. Sam was the victim of a vicious stabbing in his youth and is now an active campaigner against knife crime and violence. He is perfect in every way but one: the wedding band he wears. That’s a complication Logan doesn’t need.
Sam’s life is far from happy. His husband is addicted to hard-drugs and casual sex: a devastating combination. Johan was once the shining light in Sam’s life. Now he brings nothing but darkness. But Sam respects the vows they made. For better or for worse. The attraction Logan feels for him is mutual. Ruggedly handsome and engagingly smart, Logan is hard to resist. Sam will need to overcome the anguish of his past and barriers of his present if he’s to stand a chance with Logan.
A contemporary new romance from the author of Closer by Morning and The Anthem Trilogy.

Written in Scars: Excerpt

Written in Scars is released next Monday - 23rd April. I’m so happy it’s finally going to out there and everyone can read it in full. Today I’d like to share a short excerpt from near the beginning of the book.

 Excerpt:
His quiet musing was interrupted by voices from the hall. He turned as Amy lead another two guests into the green room. A man in his fifties and a younger guy, late twenties. Logan tried not to stare but the young man was exceptionally good-looking. He had brown wavy hair, thick on top with a full, but tidy beard. His face was perfectly handsome with high cheekbones, level eyes and a straight, broad nose. Dressed in jeans and a well-fitting brown leather jacket, he moved with confidence.
Instinctively Logan straightened his shoulders and tightened his core muscles. He forced himself to look at the older man, who wore a police uniform. He was dashing enough in his own way, but faded in comparison to his companion, despite the uniform.
Amy gave them her spiel about refreshments and collecting them five minutes before they were due on air and left without making introductions.
Never shy, Logan walked confidently towards them, hand outstretched. “Hello,” he said, addressing the police officer first. “I’m Logan Crawford.”
“Inspector John Watt,” the man answered, taking Logan’s hand in a firm grip. He had a broad, clean shaven face, with rough looking skin and thick lips. He regarded Logan with steady grey eyes. His breath and uniform smelled of cigarettes.
“Pleased to meet you.” Logan withdrew his hand to address the real object of interest.
“Hi. I’m Sam. Sam Radcliffe,” the younger man said, taking his hand.
Beneath naturally arched brows, his eyes were large, predominantly brown in colour with flashes of amber and copper. Unlike the Inspector his skin was smooth and blemish free. There wasn’t a fleck of grey in that beard. Logan guessed his age as twenty-seven, twenty-eight. No older. Under the open leather jacket, he wore a dark cotton T-shirt and a few curls of chest hair peaked above the neck.
Logan was six-foot-one, and Sam a couple of inches shorter than him, no more than that.
He’s gorgeous. Logan, dangerously close to losing composure, released Sam’s hand and stepped away.

Written in Scars: Genesis of the book

With less than a month until the publication of Written in Scars, I thought it would be nice to write a little about the genesis of the book. Obviously, this is all spoiler free.
First up, I’ll admit that the title itself is an absolute steal from one of my favourite singers Jack Savoretti. He released an album of that name in 2015 and I absolutely love it. Jack’s an English singer/song-writer with the most incredible voice. If you’re not already familiar with him then check him out.
Jack Savoretti Written in Scars Video

This was always going to be a novella. I finished work on the final book in The Anthem Trilogy last December. The trilogy took over two years of intense work and before I got stuck into another big project, I wanted to write something shorter. Looking over my notebooks I see I tried out a lot of different ideas before settling on an idea of two married men meeting, falling in love and having to overcome some huge obstacles. As I developed the characters, that idea changed slightly. Only one of the men is married when they meet, the other is already divorced.
I almost always start a story with characters: getting to know them, building their backstories and this was no different. I wrote ten-page biographies for the two main characters, Logan and Sam. Most of that never made it into the finished story, but it’s important stuff. I need to know these guys inside and out before I can write them. Where they come from, where they live, the kinds of things they like enjoy or dislike: it’s all nessecary to telling their story.
I always use photographs as a physical reference for the characters. I feel a bit like a director casting a film: getting the right actor for the part. This is how I pictured Logan and Sam while writing them.
Sam
Logan

Pretty hot, eh? It’s easy to fall in love with men who look like that and this was no exception. I love these two characters and with everything in place I found them easy to write for. I plotted the story in advance as I always do and looking back through my notes, that didn’t really change as I wrote it. The finished book sticks pretty closely to the original outline. I guess that’s because it’s short. It took a month to write the first draft. It takes me about six to nine months to write the first draft of a novel, so things are much more likely to change in that time.
And that’s a much as I can reveal ahead of release.
The book is available to pre order right now and I’m delighted to see it’s already picked up a 5 star advance review from Gay Book Reviews. Check it out:

Excerpt
Amory was so engrossed in her thoughts she didn’t hear the approaching sound of bare feet, padding on the smooth wooden floor, until a deep groan broke through them and she looked up to see Jackson. His mussed, dark blond hair was shot through with strands of gold in the overhead lighting.

The man was incredibly made. His arms stretching up and behind his head caused the bottom of his t-shirt to lift a few teasing inches, revealing a tantalizing glimpse of a tanned, rock-hard stomach. They weren’t the sculpted lines that came from the gym, but powerful, solid muscles. A fine trail of hair led the way to the top of his loose navy shorts. As he reached the bottom of the stairs, her gaze was transfixed.

His legs were long and thick, every muscle rippling as he moved down the stairs into the hallway. A rush of heat shot through her body, setting every nerve alight. Her stomach rolled as she absorbed the sight while a little lower everything tightened and tingled. She’d hoped that her memory had been flawed, tinted by the rose-colored lenses of what she had long since accepted was her first love. That clearly wasn’t the case. Rather than letting himself go he had become more impressive. The slenderness of youth had filled out, living up to the promise of overwhelming masculinity.

His lean muscles had broadened, and whilst the softness of youth had faded from his features, it had left a strong profile in its wake. Jackson had grown up all man. She gulped, heat flooding her.

The good feeling from her run was replaced by a more base desire to touch every inch of his perfect body. To pull it hard against her own and feel those muscular planes mold against her. She unconsciously licked her lips as she watched him.

As she met his eyes, the feeling of heat evaporated, replaced by a harsh chill of dread that sank through to her toes. His emotions were playing across his face and it was clear that, despite her DCI’s reassurances, Jackson had joined the dots and figured out who she was. The recognition clearly shocked him as his whole body jolted abruptly to a stop.

Unable to move, she stared helplessly as he began to walk toward her, his face a mix of unreadable emotions. As he reached out, her body began to respond to the heat that rolled off of him. The scent of his skin washed over her, but she moved back defensively. It was a tactical mistake, giving away that she knew who he was, that she had known all along.

“Amory?” he whispered, hope shining oddly through that one word.

Almost imperceptibly shaking her head, all her professionalism flew out the window, and with her heart sinking she managed a stuttered whisper, “N-n-no… No, you’re wrong. I’m Olivia.”

No amount of training was going to get her through this. Despite her only half-admitted hope that he’d see who she really was, Amory knew too much was at stake for this to happen, but it had. Now she had to endure the awful consequences of him recognizing her, the hatred that would follow this moment.

Anthem Trilogy Update

Today I have some news at last. Books two and three in the Anthem Trilogy have publication dates. They will be released by Pride Publishing in September and December. I know, that’s a long time after the release of book one but it’s owing to circumstances out of my control. Both books were finished last year, and I did hope they’d be released together in the first half of 2018. But that isn’t to be. I’m glad they’re definitely coming out but it’s a long time for readers of the first book to wait to find out what happens with Daniel and Elijah. Hopefully we’ll come up with some cool promotions nearer the release dates to make up for the delay.
In the mean time, my other news is that I’ll be releasing a standalone novella in April called Written in Scars. I’m really excited about this one. I’m going to put this out independently which has been a great challenge, but it’s also allowed me incredible freedom. There are always compromises when working with publishers, but doing it alone means getting to do exactly what you want. I chose everything for this book: the cover, the content, the layout and release dates. I’ll hold out sharing more than that for now as I want to do a cover reveal and launch in the next couple of weeks but I’m happy with every aspect of this book. I’m not sure I want to self-publish every release like some authors do – there’s a LOT of work involved – but for occasional standalone stories I can definitely see the benefits.
So, that’s all today. Short and sweet, but I wanted to share the good news about the Anthem books as soon a possible. This is view from my garden today. It's been like this since Wednesday. Perfect weather for staying home with a good book. Which is exactly what I plan to do this weekend. I've cancelled all plans to go out and intended to keep warm reading, writing and watching a few movies.

Have a great weekend. Take care and stay safe.Thom xxx

A CONVENIENT ARRANGEMENT by Maggie Marr—$.99 Sale Blitz @maggiemarr

**JUST $.99 THROUGH MARCH 2**

Billionaire tech genius Leo Travati is the ultimate playboy.

He's the poster boy for bachelor life...literally.

The launch of Leo’s new app The Convenient Arrangement solidifies his rank as the #1 most eligible bachelor--and he plans to keep things that way.

Gwen Fleming is well aware of Leo’s reputation. But after one electrifying touch, she finds herself considering “no strings” just to satisfy the need that burns whenever Leo is near.

Only what begins as no-strings grows more complicated, because Leo feels the intense attraction as well.

Could this convenient arrangement last forever?

***
Excerpt:
“You’re uncomfortable around me now. Is it because of what happened?”
“New Year’s Eve?” Gwen pasted an isn’t-that-silly smile onto her face and patted her hair. “No. Not a bit. We discussed New Year’s Eve and we agreed it was a blip, a nothing. Best to pretend that night never happened.”
“That’s not exactly how I remember the conversation.” Leo took two steps closer and she didn’t back away, didn’t turn. Instead, the pulse in her neck fluttered. “As I recall, I thought our chemistry should be investigated further.” Gwen’s tongue darted over her lower lip. “You,” Leo nodded toward Gwen, “declined.”
“I did, indeed.” Her gaze was on his mouth. He wanted to reach out, pull her close, and press his lips to hers. If being together meant nothing to her emotionally, then why wouldn’t she agree to explore this outrageous heat that sizzled between them? One night hadn’t been nearly enough for him, and from the look in Gwen’s eyes, that one night hadn’t satisfied her either. Her gaze flicked from his mouth to his eyes.
The answer hit him, sharp and fast like a jab to the gut, as soon as her eyes met his and he saw the longing she tried so hard to mask with another stiff smile. Gwen’s decision wasn’t just about discretion, or about his family, or about being a busy executive. Her reasons were much simpler. How could he have failed to see the truth? He’d been right all along. He’d been right the morning after. Gwen couldn’t have sex without emotion. A convenient arrangement wasn’t just inconvenient for her right now—a convenient arrangement was an impossibility for Gwen Fleming.
Leo took a step back. Away from the heat, away from the attraction…away from Gwen. His breath hitched in his lungs. With those long legs and effervescent smile, Gwen was the type of woman any man would be lucky to have in his life, even with the complications of a relationship.
A relationship?
When was the last time he’d considered having a real relationship with a woman?

BLURB Three: A Love Story by Adriana Kraft

As erotic romance authors, my husband and I love writing ménage and polyamory stories because they offer so many options for sizzling sex scenes. We craft sexual encounters on the page that appeal to both of us in hopes they’ll appeal to the fantasies of other men and women, as well.

But what happens when these hot erotic fantasies run headlong into real-life obstacles? What does polyamory look like when it happens to ordinary people? That’s the challenge we set ourselves in “Three: A Love Story,” our contribution to the Boxed Set All You Need is Love.

Three lives—but how many loves? Two bisexual women deeply in love with each other also enjoy dating men and even arranging an occasional three-way. What if one of these women starts to fall in love with a man?

EXCERPT

Jamie tilted her head to the side as Susan curled back in next to her. “So what do you think of Mason?”
“Ah, Mason. He’s the source of your stewing. Is he starting to wear on you? How long has it been—three months? Four months?”
“He’s not wearing on me. And it’s nearly five months.” Jamie paused to wet her lips. “You didn’t answer my question. What do you think of him? What do you really think of him?”
Susan flinched. “Well, I haven’t thought a lot about him, though I must say he has stayed around longer than any guy in recent memory.” Susan sighed. “Okay, to be honest. I think he seems like a very nice guy. When he’s over here, it’s because he’s come to see you, so I don’t really spend a lot of time with him. I’ve cooked a few dinners for you guys, but most of time he comes, you go out, you come back, and you fuck like two wildcats. I’m surprised the neighbors haven’t complained. And he’s usually gone before I’m up in the morning. And lately you’ve been spending much more time at his house than at our apartment…for your love nest activities, that is. I must say that’s easier on me. I get more sleep, and I don’t have to imagine what you and he are doing to each other.”
“That’s it?”
“What else do you want me to say? I’m an English professor, not a social worker. He doesn’t seem abusive. He’s easy to look at. He doesn’t…” Susan paused. “Uh oh. If he’s not wearing on you and yet you’re stewing about him...” She arched an eyebrow. “Jams, maybe you’d better tell me what’s really on your mind.”
Jamie didn’t miss the sudden flash of anxiety that crossed Susan’s face.

Out Now—La Contessa by S. Nano #newrelease #erotica #bdsm

La Contessa

The most perverted mistress…

Renowned for her beauty and cruelty, La Contessa’s reputation as a dominatrix is well established. And eighteenth century Venice has degenerated into a decadent and lascivious city, the perfect backdrop for her to play-out her debauched games and political ambitions.

She sends her maid, Julia, into the alleyways to search for a young man to act as her slave. Julia finds Roberto prostituting himself in the least salubrious district of Venice. He enters into La Contessa’s service to perform her bizarre and sadistic scenes.

From their first meeting there is a mutual attraction between maid and servant. The young couple engineer a series of sexual encounters, knowing the risks should their mistress discover them. Their situation is complicated when La Contessa rescues Becky and brings her to the palazzo as her submissive girl-slave. The interloper exposes Julia’s jealousies… and the feelings for her mistress.

How long can Roberto and Julia keep their love secret? Will Becky’s presence thwart their relationship? Will La Contessa’s scheming bring her the richest prize in all Venice?

All is resolved before the grand ball and masked, BDSM orgy held by La Contessa in her palazzo as the climax to Venice’s Carnivale.

She’s dressed formally, in her wig, a rich embroidered gown, and as much make-up as I’ve seen her wear. She’s dressed to impress, and when I see her guest, I understand why. His gown is grand, its hood lined with ermine. But it’s the cane, capped with a silver winged lion, which provides the vital clue for me. Nobody would openly carry such an iconic symbol if they were not part of Venice’s ruling elite. The ensuing conversation confirms my suspicions.
“May I speak frankly to you, Contessa?”
“Yes, these are my servants. I trust them not to allow any report of our conversation to go beyond this room. They know the severity of the punishment if they do.”
“This is a delicate matter, Contessa. As you know the trade through Venice of late has declined, and the Doge and Council of Ten are, let me be frank, in straightened circumstances.”
“Allessandro Fernasse, I’m perfectly aware the interest on my loans to the Doge is due for payment in a matter of days. No doubt you’ve been sent here to crawl on behalf of the Council of Ten to renegotiate the interest payments. And, knowing the perverse lecher you are, I don’t doubt you’d also like to avail yourself of the entertainments I offer. You will see I have acquired a new slave and slave girl since you were last here. The girl is especially delicious don’t you think… and very willing.”
The corpulent representative of the Council of Ten squirms uncomfortably in his seat, sweat dripping from his forehead. I’m intrigued by this exchange. It explains a lot. Venice is a place where money rules. This must be the hold La Contessa has over the ruling elite of the city, making her untouchable in whatever she does.
“Yes, Contessa, on behalf of the Council I’m here to ask for a rescheduling of our debts.”

La Contessa raises an eyebrow, “Ask? You mean beg, surely.”
“Well, to discuss what mutually beneficial arrangements we might come to,” splutters Fernasse.
“Ha! You mean beg. And yes, I will make you beg! Get out of the chair onto your knees and crawl towards me.”
“But, Contessa, is it your intention to humiliate me?”
“Yes, indeed it is. Do as I say and get on your knees or there will be no negotiation. I will simply insist on the repayment of my loan. You know the consequences.”
Offered no alternative, Fernasse heaves his body out of the chair and gets down on his knees. He crawls the short distance to where La Contessa sits, her hand outstretched ready for him. He takes it in his hand and kisses it. There is a pause.
 "Yes?” prompts La Contessa.
“Contessa, I beg you on behalf of the Doge and the Council of Ten to extend the period of your loan to the city for six months. We are expecting a fleet of merchant ships to arrive from the Far East by then with goods we can trade. I beg you to grant us this favour.”
“That’s better. And tell the Doge, next time he wants to reschedule his debts, he must come himself, and I will make him get down on his knees and crawl. I am minded to agree to an extension but I do have further conditions; a few trifles to satisfy my whims.”
“Yes, Contessa; let me know what they are. I’m confident we will be able to accommodate them,” said Fernasse, still on his knees.
“The first stipulation is that, on the final day of Carnevale, I will expect my barge to lead the procession along the Grand Canal, and for the ball to be held in my palazzo.”
“Why yes, Contessa, we would be honoured for you to host the Carnevale’smasked ball,” he says, relieved at the relative modesty of the request.
