Good Characters doing Bad things

A Game of Thrones has inspired characters who contain such strong good qualities, like honor or justice, that it can lead to his or her death.

And writing classes teach developing characters with strengths and weaknesses to make them well rounded. A heroine can be a skilled warrior AND too self assured.

This makes a more complex character, one that is beyond two dimensions, but what about a good character that just loses it and takes the first punch?

In this episode of the Am Writing Fantasy podcast, Autumn and Jesper discuss the Evil Within.

The episode is inspired by this blog post: https://www.amwritingfantasy.com/the-...

Fantasy Map Making Tips You (Probably) Never Thought Of

Fantasy maps are awesome.

They give readers and authors a glimpse into an imagined world. For me as an author, they are an essential step in understanding the world in my head. What is the terrain? The climate? What would the people who live there be like?

I totally love geeking out about maps… and so does Jesper. Maps are actually part of the reason we met! So, is it any surprise that our first LIVE Masterclass is going to be on fantasy maps? 😃

On October 28, we’ll be holding a live Masterclass Workshop on fantasy map making tips you (probably) never thought of. We’ll go over some important aspects of map making and writing in this live event. If that isn’t cool enough, participants will receive a Continent Creation cheat sheet AND be invited to register for a future Masterclass for FREE!

To register, head over HERE. The cost is only $38 and the session will be recorded and sent to all registered attendees. We can’t wait to see you there!

Oh, and this isn’t just an excuse to get you into a webinar and sell you a course or something. We aren’t trying to get you to buy anything else. Just come, geek out about maps, creating maps, and fantasy world building!

Write Better Fight Scenes with Carla from FightWrite

You’ve researched how to ride a horse, maybe how to shoot a bow or what that fiddly bit on a sword hilt is really called, but have you considered how combatants actually FIGHT? Or how long it takes a bruise to heal… and what exactly is the impact of adrenaline post fight?

Join Autumn and special guest Carla Hoch from FightWrite as they tease apart what so many authors get wrong about fight scenes, how to write a great fight scene, what Wonder Woman got wrong, and why dragon smoke is actually white (not black!).

Visit FightWrite at www.fightwrite.net and follow Carla on Instagram at www.instagram.com/carla.c.hoch/.

Get Great Writing Benefits—EVERY Month!

Helping authors is what we love to do here at Am Writing Fantasy. That’s why we have the FREE Self Publishing Success course, the writing blog, and the podcast! But did you know there is even more we offer… and that if you use it you actually help us?

You see, running the website, podcast, video formatting, transcribing audio transcripts, and all that isn’t free… and Am Writing Fantasy hasn’t quite made it to the Forbes list of Fortune 500 companies… yet! 🤣 Honestly, Jesper and I invest just about everything Am Writing Fantasy makes BACK into the company. Because we want to keep creating things to help other authors while supporting what we’ve already produced.

So, every $1 helps keep things running around here.

Which is a coincidence, because for as little as $1 a month, not only can you help support Am Writing Fantasy but also get some great rewards over on Patreon! Every month, we provide new tips on writing and marketing, updates on news in the writing world, early releases of our podcast, and even FREE courses. Heck, that is just the $1 tier! For $5 a month, there is even more—like monthly LIVE Q&A sessions, free workbooks, and even a t-shirt!

That is all pretty cool—at least we think so. 😉 But to really make it awesome, we occasionally run a special offer… like right now!

That’s right, if you join us on Patreon from now until October 2nd, you will receive a free copy of our best selling book Story Ideas and be entered to win a FREE mentoring session! Jesper and I will join the winner live via Zoom to tackle your writing, worldbuilding, and marketing hurdles.

Head over to Patreon now, check out the rewards, and join for your chance to win! Oh, and thank you! Your support makes a big difference and keeps us creating so we can help other authors!
