Caleb M. Golden's Blog, page 2

Hooray!

I went to check the mail today, and to my surprise, I found that I'd received my very first royalty check from Amazon for $134.22, which isn't much for two novels, but for me, it's a very big milestone! I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank each and every person who read/downloaded/reviewed one of my books and helped me to achieve this milestone. Thank you all for your support.

UPDATE: The Settlers' Sins Part II

As of yesterday, I'm now over 400 pages into the rough draft for the second part of the Settlers' Sins. I have the entire rest of the plot mapped out on paper, the difficult thing for me, however, has simply been trying to come up with enough filler chapters to connect the main plot points with, but I usually find a way to manage it.
These past couple of months haven't been enjoyable for me, what with a bad breakup, having to live on my mom's couch for a couple of months, and moving into a new apartment, but I've been able to remain at least somewhat productive during it all.
Anyway, enough whining. As of now, I'd say I'm well over halfway finished with the rough draft and will hopefully be starting act 3 of the story by mid-August. For anyone who might be wondering, yes, this second book will be the conclusion of The Settlers' Sins and I'll be starting an entirely new project once it's finished. With all that said, I'm going to take the day off to map out a few filler chapters and likely start back to writing tomorrow.
I thank you for your continued support and will update again in the near future. Thank you.

Been a while since my last update, but I'm now more than 300 pages into The Settlers' Sins Part II and am currently around 200 words from the 70K word milestone. If I had to guestimate, I'd say the rough draft is now halfway done.
On a related note, I'm also less than $20 away from getting my first $100 royalty check from Amazon. I want to thank everybody for supporting my work and I hope I can continue to grow as an author and provide you with even more twisted tales for many years to come. Thank you.

Well, it's taken far longer than I'd anticipated, but The Settlers' Sins Part I will likely be available in early March. The book itself has been done and ready to go for nearly a month now, the only hold up has been finding a good book cover. After many dead ends, I finally had to shell out a good chunk of change in order to have a custom cover made up. As it stands, I'm about one month out from the start date, but this should be the last little obstacle I have to deal with in order to finally release this book to the public. I guess the silver lining in all this is that in the midst of this ungodly wait, I've managed to get over 100 pages into Part II of the series. Anyway, I guess that's all I got for now.

So, part 1 of my second novel should hopefully be published by the end of the year. Just in the process of having it proofread by a friend before getting a cover done for it, and then it'll be ready for sale. I'll also be re-uploading my first novel A Dark Justice after having some much-needed proofreading done with it, which has hopefully weeded out the last of those nasty little typos.
This book has taken much longer than I'd hoped, but I'm glad to finally be on the verge of bringing it to life. While I've been waiting for it to get done, I've already taken the liberty of starting part 2, and have nearly completed the first two chapters. I've been slowly perfecting my work ethic as well. I used to only be able to write maybe 500 words per day if I was lucky, but I've recently been meeting my 1000 word daily minimum with relative ease and have even been able to crank out a couple hundred more words after that before my attention span finally reaches its limit. I like to think that with a little more self-discipline, I can work my way up to a 1500 word daily minimum at some point.
Anyway, I'm going to try and see if I cant crank out a few more paragraphs before I get completely sick of looking at it and shut it down for the night. I guess that's all I've got for now...

I've now surpassed the 70,000-word mark for my 2nd novel.
I've also been playing around a little bit with eBook advertising for my first novel, though it's produced virtually zero results. It sometimes makes me wonder does my cover suck, does my story suck, or is there a secret trick I'm just not getting? All I know is that I look at other eBooks, what with their twenty, thirty, and forty-plus reviews and can't help but feel I'm missing something. It could be that I'm just not shelling out enough money to advertisers, but I can't help but feel the answer is simpler, like it's something everybody knows but me.
At any rate, my best bet at the moment would likely be to just hurry up and get my next book done. And of course, that involves spending less time harping about my literary anonymity and more time writing.
Anyway, I guess that's all I've got for now.
