Memoirs of an Invisible Man 2: The Revenge
No, not the movie. Not the book (what, no Kindle?), either. Both of those were damn great, BTW.
I've been pretty invisible lately. I got frustrated with it, didn't see the point. I'd keep writing these long screeds that you couldn't even finish in the time it takes to have a bowel movement (my theory on the available attention span of people who read things on the Internet), feel stupid about it, try to write a short, snappy one and end up going crazy again.

I'm sorry for those of you that actually follow this blog. I didn't post the last episode of my podcast. Check out my stream at SoundCloud if you want to listen to it. This is the new one I promised after the last one was a bit late. WARNING: when I start talking about Dr. Who, you might want to turn down your speakers.

Announcing the Jim Gavin Podcast!
I've been blogging and reading blogs for long enough to know that it's pointless to write too much about how you don't post often enough. It starts to make you feel like a deadbeat dad, always promising to show up for your kid's birthday but then just sending a card in the mail.
I hate blogging. All the things I want to say take a long time to read and ain't nobody got time for that.
So I thought podcasting might work well for me. I figured that people might be more willing to listen to me tal...

ARENA now available - and The Next Big Thing
Hey folks. I should've mentioned this earlier but you know how it is. Anyway, my novella ARENA OF THE WOLF is now available in limited hardcover editions. Yes, it's been in Pre-Order Hell for a long time, but it's out now, with a bus ticket in one hand and a garbage bag full of personal effects in the other. I don't have any word on when paperbacks will be out - I'll have to remember to ask DRP. You can find it over to your right there, just click on the cover. If that link is broken you can...

New Project Revealed! SMARTASS OF MARS!
So the last couple of posts here have essentially been teasers. I am horrible at this kind of shit but for the 2 people that follow this or those who don't officially follow it but have it bookmarked on their webzone or whatever, I figure you're wondering what the hell is going on.
Well, I finished up the new project about a month ago. It's called SMARTASS OF MARS. Here's some of the query letter I wrote (I took some spoilers out):

7 Minutes
Hey folks - just a sort of interlude here, I won't aggrandize it by calling it a short story or anything like that. Just something to mark the occasion ... and there's an announcement at the end which I figure you'll be interested in if you make it that far. Enjoy. - JG

The "Other" Jim Gavin
I should've done this blog post a while ago but I was annoyed with blogging and didn't bother. But this would make a good short post (my wife says no one reads my blog because I write too much - she's probably right). And I got another email the other day and it reminded me of this.
In the December 6, '10 edition of THE NEW YORKER, a guy named Jim Gavin wrote a short story called "Costello" about a middle-aged plumbing salesman and his dreary life in suburban Los Angeles. It was the kind of sh...

Been working on a new project ...
I'm doing my best to make this new thing I'm working on mind-blowing. It's not easy. Probably the most complicated plot I've ever written so I keep tripping myself up even as I try to blast through the first draft. I'm almost done though, 80k + words in.
As usual (I hate to say that) my timing seems great. After I started this project a couple of other writers released or announced similar ones. There's more to say but I don't want to jinx it. Talking about what I'm working on always seems to ...

What Do I Write?
This is a question I've gotten asked a lot at cons. And unfortunately I don't really know how to respond without sounding like a douche. I was thinking about this the other day and decided it would make a good blog post and maybe even help me figure out what to tell people.
I don't know how other people can handle this question so easily. Well, no, I do, they just say what genre they write in. I guess I wonder how people arrived at that decision. Is it that they just said "I want to write in t...
