Time’s Anchor by Lynda Engler
A short review for a short story… five stars once again!
What an excellent short story! I don’t usually read short stories, but I needed something to decompress between writing research papers for college and working on my novel. Turns out that this little time travel story was just what I needed. Well, back to the grinned, those papers aren’t going to write themselves after all. And neither is that pesky little, or rather not so little, textbook going to read itself.
Lynda Engler ceases to amaze me!

The Evolution of Pukah Works: From Blog to Website
Almost every author hears the phrase “you need to build your platform” from the time they first announce to the world that they are working on a book until the day they vanish from the common collective. It is almost as common as telling someone who’s had the breath knocked out of them to “just breathe”, and about as irritating.
I heard the common wisdom, and after a little bit of research about what a “platform” was, along with where the effective places to build said platform were. I’ll ignore the standard social media platforms for now – Facebook and Twitter – and focus on the biggie for me: my blog.
When I started out, I had no idea what I was doing, but I had a ton of fun doing it. As I grew into being a published author, I began to realize the flailing that I’d been doing hadn’t really been getting me anywhere, and so I started organizing things a bit. Before long, the first set up I’d picked began to felt cramped. This led to a change in theme, though I kept the same color scheme and idea.
A year later, I’d settled into harness and once more began to feel as if I just didn’t have enough flexibility for what I wanted to do. By now, not only was I posting something every day, each day had developed its own content theme. This led to the last upgrade, and the beginnings of how the eventual website would emerge.
With seven post series already on the schedule, I ran into issues when I wanted to add another one (or two) to the mix. Unfortunately, there are only so many days in the week – and that number is seven. Sure, I could have added more posts to each day, if I could have guaranteed my own ability to set up the schedules properly, I probably would have. However, I’ve been known to foul the schedule. I also had an unused web server that was hosting my email. Why let that digital space go to waste?
And, thus the website finally was born. Two-and-a-half years after I’d started working on setting up a digital footprint, I’d finally evolved from a hosted site on WordPress to a self-hosted site.
Everywhere I’d touched, from the first blog name, through all the social media sites, to my web address, I have maintained the same name: Pukah Works. Though I chose to use a different name for the heading on the site, I’m still working under the premise of Pukah Works – since Alterraden is the home world for my pukah and all the mischievous work they do to help everyone around them.

Bio:
K. Caffee has always been a storyteller. Now, she is sharing her words with the world, rather than a small group clustered around to hear what she has to say.
When she is not taking anyone on a ride through her wild imagination, she is thinking of something new to tell, trying to keep her cats from claiming the keyboard from her, or studying to pass her next class exam.

News on the Horizon
I’m willing to bet that some of you have noticed that I haven’t been overly active on social media and I’ve decided it’s high time I made all the exciting news known! As some of you know, I’ve changed career paths and I’m now in the beginnings of a graphic design program. Why you may ask, well, I can’t go into details on that for a variety of reasons, just know that I plan to put the skills I learn to good use here in the writing community.
In other but related news, I picked up a part-time job at an art gallery on campus. The last few weeks we’ve been in limbo as we set up the ceramics gallery, which once it’s finished you just might be privy to photos of if I get the okay.
Why am I tell you all this? Well, why other than to say that it’s amazing what can be accomplished on lunch breaks and between classes. I’ve been running through edits every chance I get and I’m growing near the end of editing book one. With a bit of luck and the grace of the all mighty Gods, my editor and I just may finish editing in time for my birthday a month from now!
For those of you who can’t wait a full month to get a taste of Zelia the Phoenix of Hope: Free of Asenten, sign up for my newsletter as I have plans of sending out a sample including the first couple of chapters once they’ve been edited to oblivion..fca_eoi_form{ margin: auto; } .fca_eoi_form p { width: auto; } #fca_eoi_form_141 input{ max-width: 9999px; Feeder (Chronicles of the Soul Eaters Book 1) by Lucinda Moebius
Okay, this is going to be a shorter review because I have a paper and two drawings to do for college. In hindsight, I probably should have finished my paper before I finished the book, but what can I say, it was a good book.
5 out of 5 stars!
Lucinda Moebius’s version of vampires is a new swing I hadn’t really thought of before, granted I haven’t read many vampire books. The book is written in a vampire named Maria’s point of view. She’s not like the other vampires, her life, her struggles, they’ve made her more human than any of them could ever be. Yet she’s more than any of the others could ever be, even in worse and most broken state.
Overall, I love this world, the spin on the vampires and I thirst for more. If I could I’d run out and get more of Lucinda Moebius’s books, but I need to get back to reality, finish my assignments, and work on editing my own book.
If Feeder sounds like something you’d be interested in reading, check it out here!

A Post Apocalyptic Novel: Into the Outside
Lynda Engler hooks you from the very beginning with her tales of Malcolm and the other mutants of the outside. These mutants are the descendents of those caught out in the open when the world fell to shambles in massive terrorist attack that left the world without electronics and radiation that mutated many of the land’s inhabitants.
Lynda brings the troubles of both the shelter people and outsiders to life in such a way that it truly makes you wondered if this could really happen. She combines the action/adventure of the outside with an uncanny love story that truly melts the heart.
If you’re looking for your next post apocalyptic story that hits home then I full heartedly suggest checking Into the Outside out!

Myth of the Naupaka Flower

Zora Marie- We have author J.L. Eck here with us today. I hear your novel is based on the Hawaiian myth of the naupaka flower. I must say, that’s one myth I’ve not heard much about, but I’d love to learn! Where did you first hear about this myth or how you stumble across it?
J.L. Eck- I first vacationed on Maui in 2006 and I instantly knew that I had to live in Hawaii. I’ve always been obsessed with beaches even though I was born in Utah and I was living in Arizona at the time. So I moved to Oahu a few months later. And I was fascinated with all things Hawaiian, especially the history of the Hawaiian people and all of the Hawaiian myths and legends. I started reading all the books I could find on Hawaiian history and I had just started writing my first novel (which had nothing to do with Hawaii except the setting) when I came across the myth of the naupaka flower. I knew it belonged in my novel right away so I reworked my original idea to make it centered around the myth.
Zora Marie- That’s awesome! I hope to visit Hawaii someday, maybe we’ll get lucky and run into each other if I do.
J.L. Eck – Sadly, I no longer live in Hawaii! My husband, 3-year-old daughter and I moved to Portland last November. My hubby is from Portland. We wanted to be closer to family now that we have our daughter. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss Hawaii though. Hawaii is my true home. Someday I will move back there…
Zora Marie- Well, there’s still hope to meet yet! I have several angora rabbit breeding friends that live near Portland that I hope to visit sometime. That and there are some breathtaking views to be had on the way there! So, what is it about the myth of the naupaka flower that drew you in?
J.L. Eck – There are several versions of the naupaka flower myth but they all resemble the Romeo and Juliet tragic love story. In one version, Pele, the goddess, was jealous of her sister Naupaka because she had the love of a handsome fisherman named Kaui. So Pele killed Naupaka and Kaui with her lava and that is when the naupaka flower first started to grow.
In another version, the version I went with for my novel, a princess fell in love with a commoner but the lovers were not allowed to be together (princesses had to marry other royals) and they were forced apart. The princess went to live and die alone in the mountains while the commoner went to live and die alone by the sea. There are two types of naupaka flowers – one grows in the mountains and one grows by the sea. Both types only grow with half their petals though. The myth claims that the flower was a symbol of the love between the princess and the commoner and after their tragic deaths the flower never grew whole again.
I had recently read Juliet by Anne Fortier and her book is based on the Romeo and Juliet story with her main characters reincarnated in modern day. So her novel also strongly shaped my novel.
I’m a romantic and I love a good love story with a happy ending, which is what my novel is.
Zora Marie- That’s a very interesting myth that pulls on the heart strings. Makes me want to visit just so I can see the naupaka flower in person and of course take in the views. If you would like to learn more about the naupaka flower please check out J.L. Eck’s novel. Thank you for reading!

This one gets a full 5 stars!
Such an enjoyable and captivating read with as may twist and turns as can be imagined. Richard M. Mulder pulls you in with a deep and mysterious scene before dropping you off in the modern world of Earth. Mulder’s novel continues to surprise with every twist and turn of the story while still keeping the story grounded with his impeccable descriptions. Not wishing to spoil and of the surprises I won’t go into detail. But I will give you this, so many loose strings are tied up in a nice little bow while still leaving a HUGE cliffhanger. The ending is satisfying enough that I didn’t seek to pull my hair out, yet left me hanging so much that I have to pick up the next book in the series! Basically, Richard M. Mulder needs to hurry up with the next book!
Thank you for a fantastic read Richard M. Mulder!

Lemurian myth – Betram ritual
Mankind has always had a fascination with the moon. Rumors and myths abound about odd behavior happening during the full moon including births, deaths, and random acts of craziness. Just think what could ensue when a full moon takes place during a summer solstice. Occurring approximately every 30 years, this phenomenon happened this year on June 20th, 2016. What did you do to celebrate?
While thinking about my story world, I had to wonder. How would this affect my alien characters that are here from the planet Lemuria to battle over Earth’s water? The answer—the power of the full moon on a summer solstice brings out their beasts along with an uncontrollable urge to mate. The Betram ritual is a Lemurian ceremony created to provide an outlet for all this…ahem…sexual energy.
Unforgettable Lover is about two young Stiyaha who succumb to the force created by the full moon on the summer solstice and partake in the Betram ritual. Hiding behind masks they conceal their identities, but neither can forget their night of passion.
Unforgettable Lover is a prequel novella in the Worlds of Lemuria: Earth Colony series.
Blurb:
The Betram ritual, when the full moon occurs on the summer solstice, is a sexual rite—and a requirement—for all unbonded Stiyaha of age. The irresistible urge to mate drives their inner beasts. Some succumb and transform, while others hide behind masks. None can escape the compelling need.
For Leonna, Betram offers one night of freedom from a destiny she doesn’t want. Eager to participate, she’s drawn to a formidable male whose tenderness burrows into her soul. Despite discovering she’s below his status, she is caught up in their passionate frenzy, and loses her heart to a male she can never have.
Though reluctant, as an unbonded male, Prince Nicholai must participate in the Betram ritual. Because he fears harming anyone he gets close to, he dons his mask and vows to stay in human form. What he doesn’t expect is the intensity of his hunger for a certain honeyed female hidden behind a disguise. As much as he longs to forget her, he can’t, for she’s unforgettable.

Interview with Christian Terry
Zora Marie (ZM)- We have the self-published author of Ten Lives, Christian Terry here with us today. So, what do you do?
Christian Terry (CT)- I’m an author! I write what’s in my heart and hopefully it translates well to paper.
ZM- I’m only one voice, but I thought it did. So, what is your writing process? Do you have a time, day or place you like to write?
CT- I listen to a mix of hip-hop, John Williams, and video game music with headphones cranked up when I start writing. Morning is my time and in the quiet living room is where I do most of it.
ZM- What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
CT- I work full time in a psychiatric hospital with people who have mental illness . I love video games and I’m also a big film buff, and a semi-comic book geek.
ZM- What’s your all time favorite animal? It can be mythical.
CT- Has to be flying squirrels.
ZM- Really? And no flying squirrels in your book? What a letdown. So, do you have a favorite myth? If so, tell us about it!
CT- El Dorado, the famous lost city of gold.
ZM- Ooo, that’s a good one and not one I hear of very often. On to another topic, any advice for authors about book covers?
CT- Take the advice of your peers because sometimes they see flaws in what you may not be able to see.
ZM- Any marketing tips you’d like to share with other authors?
CT- Socializing and networking plays a huge part. I know some authors are in their comfort zone and don’t like to reach out but in order to be successful in this community we have to continue to interact and help one another. Those are the facts, Jack.
ZM- Tell us about your next book project. Anything Ten Lives related?
CT- I’m currently working on a short story that has time travel. And I’m also writing up the first draft of Ten Lives sequel …spoilers…Seven Lives.

Blurb:
After agreeing to hunt down an ancient relic on an alien world, Mike Wesley may have gotten more than he bargained for: the mark of the hero which gives him the ability to respawn after death, ten times.
Now, between the deadly booby traps and the cute, cuddly yet murderous cat creatures that inhabit the world of Kelenia, he’ll need each one of his new lives if he wants to make it back to Atlanta in one piece.

The Map!
How was this map made you may wonder, well wonder no more! I made the map by starting with a rough sketch in pencil as I decided what I wanted it to look like. Then I drew it out a second time and went over it with pen after I made an outline box for that nice finished look. After that I looked back at my past calligraphy skills and pulled them out to play in teeny-tiny form as the entire map is on one sheet of sketch book paper. I practiced writing the words once then wrote it on the final map. A couple hours of work and I have a finished map!
