Hace unos años, en las 80s o 90s, el Rvdo. Puchades escribió un folleto pequeño con el título La Iglesia Española Reformada Episcopal (IERE) para la serie Pluralismo Religioso. He intentado contactar la edición pero por lo que veo ya no existe. Ya que la mayoría del libro consiste en documentos históricos de la IERE, y ya que Puchades era ministro de nuestra iglesia, siento libre compartir mi copia personal con vosotros para uso de investigación solamente.

Marthe Curry interviews Duane Miller

Last year my book Living among the Breakage: Contextual Theology-making and ex-Muslim Christians was published by Pickwick.

I sat down with Dr. Marthe Curry, director of the Department of World Mission based out of San Antonio, Texas, to talk about it. That interview has now been published in Global Missiology (15:1). Here is an excerpt:

MC: Why do MBBs [Muslim-background believers] seem to be more comfortable in evangelical settings? Or is the correct question Are evangelicals more evangelistic than liturgical/traditional denominations?

DAM: One might think that since the ancient churches of the Muslim world are mostly Eastern or Oriental Orthodox, that people would be converting to those forms of Christianity. But that rarely happens. First, those ancient churches are still suffering from the trauma of centuries of living as dhimmis under the sharia. It was a belittling and dehumanizing way to live wherein Christians (and Jews) were routinely publicly humiliated by Muslim rulers. Christians could always convert to Islam, but were not allowed to evangelize Muslims or even learn about Islam. This has led in many places to quietism and seeing Islam as invincible. One pastor has likened how these Christians see Muslims to how a prostitute views her pimp as someone who really loves her, even though no one else sees it that way. Second, evangelicalism—as broad as that term is—places a great deal of importance on conversion. The strength of evangelicalism is that each and every Christian is seen as an evangelist. In other churches people tend to assume the priest or bishop is in charge of evangelism—if they even know what the word means. I will say that theologically there is nothing in Anglicanism, Catholicism or Orthodoxy that preclude vigorous evangelism by the laity. The barrier really is pastoral.

“La Iglesia Catedral del Redentor”

The Reformed Episcopal Church of Spain (of which I am a clergy member) published this booklet some decades ago. It really needs to be updated! However, there is little information available about the Anglican Cathedral of the Redeemer in Madrid, so I thought I would make this booklet available to any researcher or curious party.  I scanned it and it can now be found at Scribd.

I hope to post some more pictures of the cathedral church soon. For now, here is the altar and the cathedra.

This is where I serve as deacon and we have some eight services per week.

Morning prayer at 9 AM from Tuesday through Friday.
Evening prayer on Wednesday at 5:00 and Saturday at 6:30.
Sunday mornings at 11:30 we alternate between Morning Prayer and Communion
Sunday night at 9:00 we have our Taizé worship. (Though once November comes that will be moved to 8 pm.)

However, I noted that Wikipedia did not have a page for our cathedral, in English at least. It was there in Spanish. Having composed pages for other previous churches in the Diocese of Jerusalem, I thought I would compose this one too.

So here is the new Wikipedia page, which I hope to expand: Anglican Cathedral of the Redeemer.

I am glad to share with everyone that we have started a Taize service at the Anglican Cathedral Church of the Redeemer in Madrid. We begin at 9 pm, though once November begins that will change to 8 pm. The service is meditative and quiet and beautiful. Please come and join us.

Anglican Cathedral Church of the Redeemer, Madrid

So we’re settling down nicely in Madrid. Got a bank account and will hopefully have a flat some time next week. My work here is related to ministry and education, which is pretty much what I’ve been doing since we moved to Nazareth back in 2008.

I’m pleased to be serving as deacon at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer (Iglesia Catedral del Redentor). This is the only cathedral church of the Reformed Episcopal Church of Spain (Iglesia Española Reformada Episcopal). This is the oldest Protestant church in the country. What privilege to serve at such a historical church. Here are a couple pictures, and then a couple family pictures too.

We recently arrived in Madrid and I felt like posting a fw pictures from here. I have taken pictures of various places that denote the strong Latin American presence here, though I have also seen many signs with Arabic of Islamic terms as well.
