Alcohol kills around 3m people a year worldwide, around 2m men and 1m women.

Drink less alcohol, make fewer mistakes

Alcohol impairs a wide range of brain functions, making a wide range of mistakes more likely, with consequences ranging from the minor to the life-changing. Drinking less alcohol means fewer mistakes.

Only one in four of these women knew that alcohol is a risk factor for breast cancer. Even more concerning, 35% didn’t think there’s any link at all. Another 40% were sitting on the fence about it.

Alcohol, less is more

Reducing alcohol intake reduces the risks it poses to our health. Fewer people know this simple message than should. Please, help spread the word by joining the supporters.

Avoid pressuring people

Labels don't tell us to avoid pressuring other people to drink alcohol. But there are many good reasons to avoid alcohol, not least avoiding harms to our physical and mental health. Please join the supporters. ■

Alcohol calories

Labels don't tell us: Alcohol has roughly the same calorie density as cooking oil. The 25ml of alcohol in a large beer contains around 175 calories and the 20ml of alcohol in a quarter of a bottle of wine is around 150 calories, the same as a 50ml double measure of spirits. ■

Alcohol is not useful

Alcohol is not useful, with all of its purported benefits achievable by other means which are not hazardous to health or well-being.

Alcohol unlearning curve

Increasing our exposure to an activity, like playing piano, typically increases our skills in that activity, but the opposite is the case with alcohol drinking because it is an addictive psychoactive. The negative effects of exposure are greatest when we are still young and our brains are still forming. Find out more. ■
