FIDM.....FIDM San Francisco "3 Days of Fashion" Appearance and Meet and Greet: RECAP!

3 Days of Fashion Welcome!--Nick Verreos at FIDM San Francisco "3 Days of Fashion" 2019 Summer Program

This last month, I have been back in the East Coast in Brooklyn, NY doing my Consulting Producer duties for the next season of Bravo TV's "Project Runway" but I did get away for a few days to go back to the West Coast to attend to one of my other jobs--being the Spokesperson and Co-Chair of Fashion Design for FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising . First off, I flew to San Francisco for an Appearance at this year's FIDM San Francisco "3 Days of Fashion" Summer Program.

Almost There--Golden Gate Bridge and Transamerica Pyramid, San Francisco

I always love visiting San Francisco, especially since I spent some of my childhood and high-school years in the Bay Area. And now, as the Fashion Design Co-Chair, I have an added responsibility to represent the College and all our campuses in a more, academic manner.

Welcome!--Nick Verreos, FIDM San Francisco "3 Days of Fashion" 2019

The FIDM "3 Days of Fashion" is a unique 3-day Summer Program that high school students attend to learn how it is to be a FIDM student: Learning from FIDM instructors, collaborating on hands-on workshops, meeting fashion industry professionals and taking part in workshops on fashion sketching, draping, trend spotting, interior design, social media and much more.

On Stage--Nick Verreos at FIDM San Francisco "3 Days of Fashion" 2019

This year I got the chance to make a "Special Appearance" on the first day of FIDM San Francisco's "3 Days of Fashion", doing a lecture, presentation on "How I Got to Where I Got" as a fashion designer, telling my story from childhood to...attending FIDM, starting my own company, designing dresses that were worn by Katy Perry, Heidi Klum and Beyonce...as well as "Project Runway" and now, my job as the Co-Chair of FIDM Fashion Design.

Lecture Time--Nick Verreos at FIDM San Francisco "3 Days of Fashion" 2019

This year, I also got the chance to interview an illustrious FIDM San Francisco Alumna, fashion designer Colleen Quen, who also talked about her story and time at FIDM and even brought one of her designs to show the students:

Afterward, I also brought some of my own NIKOLAKI gowns and dresses to show the students attending...

After finishing my day at FIDM San Francisco, I went to the Oakland International Airport to catch my flight back home to Los Angeles...and well, I got there and found out that my flight had been cancelled and I had been re-scheduled for a much later flight...As I was about to get a little annoyed at the situation, I noticed that my lovely Oakland Airport Southwest Airlines Ticket Counter employee was wearing THE SAME readers I had! #Seriously...take a look:

Category Is...CAMP!--Designs from Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Camp: Notes On Fashion" Exhibition--Designs from (L to R) Bob Mackie, Marjan Pejoski, Moschino by Jeremy Scott, Jean Paul Gaultier, Burberry by Christopher Bailey

Recently, I had the visited New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Camp: Notes On Fashion" Exhibition with y better half, David Paul. The fabulous exhibition just opened--precluded by the fabulous "Met Gala" , which featured many A-listers try (and, really, I mean try) to give their best CAMP...some succeeded and some, not so muchey!

Met Boy--Nick Verreos at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC

David Paul and Nick Verreos--The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC

This was especially obvious after we attended the exhibition. Both David and I LOVED the exhibit and the COUTURE on display. Yet at the same time, we couldn't help but think "Did some of those "Met Gala" guests actually get the memo!!??". The exhibition featured 250+ objects dating from the 17th century to the present, exploring the origins of  camp's exuberant aesthetic.  Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp'" provides the framework for the exhibition, which examines how the elements of irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration are expressed in fashion.

Here are my photos from this must-see exhibit:

Sequin Boys--Dazzling creations from Season 17 Bravo's "Project Runway" designers (L to R) Venny Etienne, Jamall Osterholm, Garo Sparo, Bishme Cromartie, Jhoan "Sebastian" Grey

Recently on the new-and-improved "Project Runway" on Bravo , the Challenge was to design and create looks inspired by the new movie "Rocketman" based on Elton John's life. The designers had to create a fashionable stage-worthy costume that would fit in perfectly with the movie and vibe THE MAN...THE LEGEND....Sir Elton John, and all his fabulousness. Being that it was a MENSWEAR challenge, male models were brought in to model the creations...

Afterward, we had a lovely lunch plus a VIP Tour of the campus by Barbara Bundy, FIDM Vice President of Education. James and Mark were so wonderful with the students, giving outstanding support, information and invaluable advice on the fashion industry. I also especially loved the "Fashion Gossip" they had from their 30+ years of experience in this crazy industry.

Here are photos from the visit:

#Throwback--It had been almost 15 YEARS since I first met Badgley Mischka, when I had been a constant/designer on Season 2 of "Project Runway" back in 2005, and Mark Badgley and James Mischka were the judges of the "Flower Power" Challenge, when we had to create designs using materials from a Flower/Plant Shop (lower photos)
