#Review: Twin Power:The Best Snow Day Ever by Benjamin and Kiyanda Young #giveaway #bookseries

About the books:

Sebastian and Simone are not just brother and sister. They are twins!

The stories and adventures that the twins experience will show all children how to use teamwork to accomplish tasks.

In this second book of the "Twin Power" series, the fraternal twins enjoy their favorite time of year, winter! They want to enjoy going out in the snow but have to work together inside first to get to go outside. Outside they encounter some bigger kids who beat them at a snowball fight.  They must learn once again to use their twin powers to overcome their nemesis.

Unlike the first book that focused on the fact they are twins, this book focused on working together. Yes, it also highlighted the two being twins but showed other kids that the two can work together to accomplish something great. Overall, that was the main message of this follow-up book and it did shine through.

I do want to mention that the illustrations in both books are colorful and large. If the readers look closely they will find some fun pals on each page that join in the fun.

Like the first book, in the back contained reading comprehension questions and also included fun activities to do. Cute little book.

#Review: Twin Power & Twin Power:The Best Snow Day Ever by Benjamin and Kiyanda Young #giveaway #bookseries

About the books:

Sebastian and Simone are not just brother and sister. They are twins!

Join them in their adventures to see how "Twin Power" and working together make being twins super fun ... and convenient.

"Twin Power" is the first in a series of Twin Power Books starring fraternal twins named Simone and Sebastian. The twins learn how to work together and teach little readers about what it means to be a twin and a best friend.

The stories and adventures that the twins experience will show all children how to use teamwork to accomplish tasks.

I have twin siblings and know  first hand how twins can be. They always have, what I call, the "twin thing" going on even when they are not close by. The twins in this book have that same thing but it is called twin power. The twins in this book are fraternal and tend to do everything together. The book explains that they were born together and although they look different, still do many of the same things together, but like all siblings, fuss with each other too. This book is a nice beginning to what twins are and aren't.An addition to this book is reading comprehension questions in the back. This is a good idea and gives the reader a chance to delve into the book more than once. The book also included coloring pages in the back as well, that is a nice little perk.3 1/2 stars

#Review: And the Trees Talked Back by Frederick J. Burns #giveaway #childrens books

About the book:

And The Trees Talked Back is a heartwarming tale of wonder, friendship, and self-discover that will captivate readers of all ages.

Meet Amanda, an extraordinary child with a unique gift — she can talk to trees.

Living in a quaint village with a mystical forest, Amanda's life takes an enchanting turn when she seeks out her inquisitive cat, Daisy. As the sun sets and the moonlight casts its glow, the duo embark on a thrilling night-time adventure.

As Amanda encounters ancient trees, she uncovers a world she never knew existed, where wisdom and acceptance coexist with fear and hatred. Amidst the rustling leaves and haunting shadows, she confronts the duality of nature, discovering the true meaning of good and evil. Her bonds with nature deepen and she learns to navigate the world where choices shape destinies.

My review:

I love trees! Yes, I am one of those tree huggers and kissers. Maybe that is strange ,but it made me want to read and review this lovely children's book. For me, to have a tree talk back would be awesome!

In this sweet book, the main character, Amanda, is just looking out for her kitten when she encounters the different personalities of trees that want to get to know a human.  Isn't that cool?

I loved how each tree she encountered took time to know her and she to know them. Oh yes, she encountered one that was afraid of her too. That tree's fear was based upon natural things for a tree, like being cut down by humans. But kindness prevailed and understanding won out. If this does not sound familiar to life, then  what is? I could not get enough of the tree to human conversation. This conversation also was for kids who could read fairly well. Although this book was most likely marketed as a picture book, it was anything but. The sentences are complex and meaningful.

If the story did not grab me enough, then there is the illustrations themselves. The author not only wrote the book but did them too. Each two page spread  had a specific kind of tree that accompanied the pages. All the art work was done in black and white which made this reader wonder what they looked like but that is where the story became appealing.

This is such a well done book and I hope that the author might do a follow up. Great job! 5 stars for sure!

About the author:

Burns, always an artist on the inside, breaks through his trial attorney exterior at age 63, to write and illustrate his first children’s book, And The Trees Talked Back. Three years in the making, Burns strives to convey a world where commonalities are more important than differences, where empathy is more important than distain and where making friends is more important than creating enemies. With no formal art training, Burns enjoys working in and learning new mediums and styles. His art has won awards in juried competition, been displayed on billboards, in government offices, the D’Amour Museum of Fine Art, and now graces the cover of Dave Brinnel's second CD, ALONE. His detailed illustrations of trees using pen and ink with washes of watercolor have been compared to the fantastical illustrations of Arthur Rackham and Maurice Sendak. Burns lives in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts with his wife, Heather and two dogs, where he is developing ideas for his next book.

Please, Thank You, and Excuse Me by Ashley Chadwick #childrensbooks #manners

Date Published: April 5, 2023

Publisher: ‎Mindstir Media

When your children are learning to speak, it can come out and grunts, screams, or yells.

This can make it hard to understand them. To help them through this tough time, start by getting on their level. Look them in the eyes and reassure them that it is okay to get frustrated. Then ask them to use their words with please, thank you, and excuse me. These three basic phrases set a foundation for the language you will share between you and your child. Just remember… Repeat, repeat, repeat. Stay with their consistent repetition. You might grow tired of it, but to your two-year-old, it’s the routine they need to develop.

Politeness is spoken worldwide and in every language, whether in public or private. The simplicity of kindness teaches that everyone matters in this world.

Ashley has been a professional nanny for over fifteen years and the owner of a nanny service. She incorporates nature with mild education and mannerisms in children's lives. When Ashley is not a nanny, she is a world traveler, nature enthusiast, and loves mountain biking, yoga, and spending time with her nephew, Walker.

Book Blitz: The Dragon and the Girl True Treasure by Laura Findley Evans #Giveaway #MiddleSchool #Fantasy #YA #bookseries

Middle School Grade Fantasy

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

Dire news arrives from Cantington. Rumors of dragon sightings are stirring up fears based on old stories that depict dragons as blood-thirsty, fire-breathing monsters. To protect his people, the Overking decrees that all dragons must die.

Twelve-year-old Eliana knows the truth about dragons. After all, her best friend, Winston, is one! Fresh off an adventure where she saved her kingdom using her ability to communicate with Winston’s family, she is now excited to hone her skills through her Dragon Speaker apprenticeship. That is until she begins having a recurring nightmare of a scar-faced soldier, a poison-tipped spear, and an orb that glows in the dark. What’s even more worrisome is that Winston is having the same nightmare.

When they hear of the Overking’s decree, they realize their dreams may not be a coincidence. Eliana must quickly learn how to use her ability to understand dragons to help new friends–and old–solve a mystery about an ancient treasure and save the dragons from certain death. Along the way, there are lessons to be learned about the dangerous desire for fame, about the transitory nature of plans, and about how treasure can mean different things to different people…and dragons.

About the Author

Laura Findley Evans is the author of True North, Book 1 of The Dragon and the Girl series. It all started when her grandchildren said one night (when they were supposed to be sleeping), “Tell us a story.” And so the adventures of a feisty young girl and an impossible dragon began. Laura would like you to know that whatever she writes must be true, whether it is real or not. She hopes you will discover the truth in whatever she writes. When she’s not writing, Laura reads (a lot), cooks (mostly) healthy dinners, and spends time with people she loves. You can visit her at www.LauraFindleyEvans.com.

Hello everyone,

I am welcoming today a guest blogger who just happens to be the author MJ O'Neill whose book I am spotlighting. Welcome Ms. O'Neill. Take it away!

~Michelle, Reading Authors Network

----------------------------------------------

Harmony Holt's Holiday Survival Guide: Tips from the Innkeeper Who's Seen It All (Including the

Occasional Zombie)

Howdy, y'all! Harmony Holt here, coming to you from the cozy heart of The Second Chance Inn, the B&B

that’s seen more drama than a soap opera marathon and more unexpected guests than a Thanksgiving

Day Parade. And I'm not just talking about the two-legged variety—though trust me, I've got stories. But

since it's the season of cheer, let me impart some hard-earned wisdom on how to survive the holidays

without turning into a zombie yourself.

Tip #1: Deck Those Halls... Strategically

Decorating is a must. A sprig of holly here, a string of lights there, and before you know it, you’ve got a

place cozier than a kitten in a yarn basket. But remember, strategic placement is key. Keep the pathways

clear—because nothing says "bah humbug" quite like tripping over a rogue tinsel strand when you're

carrying a tray of hot mulled cider. And folks, take it from me, if you’re decking the halls with boughs of

holly, maybe check they’re not the kind that attracts festive, undead gardeners. Just a heads up!

Tip #2: The Early Bird Gets the Turkey... and the Sanity

Do yourself a favor and start your holiday prep early. And I'm not just talking about cooking—though

getting a head start on those pies never hurts. I mean making lists, checking them twice, and perhaps

even thrice. Who's coming? What are they eating? Any allergies or dietary requirements? And no, a fear

of being in close proximity to cranberries because they’re "suspiciously bouncy" doesn’t count, Aunt

May.

Tip #3: It's Beginning to Smell a Lot Like Christmas

Nothing says holidays at an inn like the smell of cinnamon and pine wafting through the halls. It’s

soothing, it's festive, and it covers up the less appealing odor of Mr. Henderson's annual attempt to fry a

turkey... indoors. So, get those scented candles burning, the potpourri... potpouring, and maybe leave

out a bowl of peppermints to keep everyone's breath minty fresh. Trust me, no one wants to face a

garlic-breathed guest in the mistletoe corner.

Tip #4: Don't Let the Carols Carol On... and On

Music sets the mood, but a loop of "Jingle Bells" can drive anyone to feel like they're in a zombie

apocalypse after a few hours. Mix it up! Throw in some jazz, some classics, and maybe a rock tune here

and there. Keep it low enough that it invites a hum but doesn’t drown out Aunt May's controversial

opinions on fruitcake.

Tip #5: Not All Gifts Need Bows

Remember, the best gifts don't always come wrapped in shiny paper. Sometimes, it's the gift of a

listening ear or a shoulder to lean on. In my inn, we've seen the miracle of an impromptu therapy

session between strangers turn into a lifelong friendship. And in rare cases, I’ve seen the right words

revive a spirit more effectively than any zombie antidote.

Tip #6: Prepare for Invasion

Guests come with appetites, and I don't mean just for your famous eggnog. Prepare extra, because just

like preparing for a zombie horde, you never know when you'll need those surplus snacks and drinks to

keep the living room peace. Having a stash of cookies can diffuse even the tensest holiday standoff.

Tip #7: The Best Defense is a Good Offense

When hosting, always have a game plan. Know your exits, keep the pathways clear, and have a broom

handy—not for flying, my witchy friends, but for sweeping up the inevitable pine needle drop. And if an

actual zombie shuffles in, seeking the seasonal scent of brains over brawn, a swift guide to the nearest

exit (or push out of it) is your best bet.

Tip #8: Tackle Tinsel-High Energy: Kid-Proof Your Holiday Haven

Folks, let's talk tiny humans. We love them, but during the holiday season, they can turn a quaint

gathering into a full-blown, sugar-fueled, toy-scattering frenzy. The Second Chance is all about that

magical blend of peace and joy, so here's how I kid-proof my space and keep those cherubs cheerful

without dialing down the holiday spirit.

 Engage in Festive Crafts: Set up a little workshop at the kids' table—think of it as Santa's

annex. Stock it with color-your-own ornaments, cookie decorating kits, or simple

gingerbread houses. It'll keep their hands busy and their imaginations alight. Plus,

nothing tires out a tiny tot like a burst of creativity!

 Holiday Scavenger Hunt: Nothing says "silent night" like sending the kiddos on a merry

mission. Create a holiday scavenger hunt with little clues hidden throughout a

designated kid-friendly zone. They can search for the next clue on the back of a candy

cane or underneath a Santa hat. And the prize? Perhaps a reading of their favorite

holiday story or a special screening of a classic holiday film—zombie-free, of course.

 The Chill-Out Corner: Even the jolliest junior can get overwhelmed by all the festivities.

Designate a cozy corner away from the clatter where kids can unwind with holiday

books, puzzles, or coloring pages. Throw in some comfy cushions and a string of soft

fairy lights for that enchanted, calm-down vibe.

 Remember, when the wee ones are engaged and their energy positively channeled, the

adults can clink those Zombtini glasses in peace, all the while keeping an affectionate

eye on the elfin excitement. After all, a peaceful inn is the ultimate holiday melody.

Tip #8: Remember the Reason for the Season

Lastly, amidst all the chaos, take a moment to remember why we do all this in the first place. It's about

togetherness, about spreading love and joy, and about making memories that'll last longer than that

fruitcake from three seasons ago. So breathe in, breathe out, and find your inner peace—even if it’s in

the pantry with the door locked for five minutes.

Now, armed with these tips, you're as ready as you'll ever be to tackle the holidays head-on. Whether

you're an innkeeper, a guest, or just someone who loves the festive season, remember to take a

moment for yourself, too. After all, it's hard to be the life of the party if you're feeling like the Deacon of

the Dead inside.

Happy Holidays, folks!
