Thrilling Locations

Where in the world is Thomas Caine?

I’m about halfway through the next Thomas Caine thriller, and I wanted to share some of the exciting and exotic locations our favorite former assassin will be visiting this time around. First up, we have the world’s tiniest coffee shop, the Coffee Tower…

coffeetower

This quaint, miniature café is located in the beautiful city of Riga, Latvia, which will also be featured in the book.

Riga has to be one of the most breath-taking cities on earth… it looks like it sprang to life right out of a fairy tale.  I first discovered Riga while doing research for a TV show a couple years ago. As soon as I saw the stunning architecture and rustic cobblestone streets, I knew I had to have Mr. Caine visit there sooner or later.

But like most cities, Riga has a dark side as well… it’s not all pastel cafes and delightful coffee shops. The neighborhood known as “The Quiet Centre” isn’t featured in the tourist brochures… it’s a tough spot full of dive bars, dark alleys, and shady characters… so of course Mr. Caine will have to pay it a visit as well.

That’s all for now… I’ll be doing more location reveals later in the week. And later this month, I’ll share a first glimpse at the new cover!

In the meantime, you can check out the first two books in the series, Devil’s Due, and Tokyo Black.  They’re both in Kindle Unlimited now, and Devil’s Due is available on Audible as well.

Stay tuned for more exciting news from the world of Thomas Caine…

THANK YOU SPEECH

Amazonreview1FB

Good morning everyone!

It’s the second day of the TOKYO BLACK launch, and so far, I have to say, things are going quite well! Thomas Caine and his motley crew of gangsters, spies and assassins have managed to crack the top 100 in two categories… Not bad for the second day of release. We’ve got quite a ways to go, but I think we’re off to a good start. To everyone who bought a copy, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! I hope you enjoy it!

I’d like to give a HUGE shout out to my advance reader team… Reviews were excellent, and I’m ecstatic that most people loved the book! But more importantly, I’m so grateful that everyone took the time to craft some really thoughtful, insightful reviews. I choked up while reading some of them! I know how valuable your time is, and it means so much to me that you guys were willing to put aside some precious moments of your day share your thoughts about my book.

If you’ve read TOKYO BLACK or DEVIL’S DUE, could I ask you to please leave an honest review at Amazon? It is so important to independent authors like myself… we depend on your honest reviews to attract readers. Just a sentence or two of your honest thoughts (good, bad or indifferent) would be a great help, and I would really appreciate it.

CLICK HERE TO LEAVE A REVIEW – THANK YOU!

Keeping on the topic of thanks, I would also like to thank the self-publishing community. I’ve been in the entertainment industry for years, but I have never worked with a more supportive, helpful, and genuine group of people. People like Mark Dawson, Joanna Penn, Chris Fox, Bryan Cohen, and countless others have taken time out of their busy schedules to share advice, tips, information, and most importantly, encouragement. Without that support, I never would have made it this far.

That’s all for today… If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading! Now I have to get to work on a certain spy thriller set in the most populous Asian country in the world… more info coming soon!

LAUNCH WEEK INTERVIEW

croppedhead4

Brian Drake, of Brian Drake at Large, was one of my advance readers for Tokyo Black.  Not only did he leave me a great review, he also asked if I’d be interested in doing an interview on his site.

In addition to running a very cool blog focused on thriller and suspense novels, Brian is also an author himself, with an incredible body of work!  I can only dream of producing as many books as he has so far!  So of course I was surprised and honored by his request.

Like most writers, I have a pathological aversion to talking about myself.  But Brian kept things fun, and I thought he asked some Amazonreview1FBgreat questions.  I hope you enjoy reading my answers!

You can check out the interview HERE.  Thanks again for having me Brian!

Thanks everyone!  Tokyo Black officially launches tomorrow, and advance reviews have been better than I could have hoped! So, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for a beer and a cheeseburger… Just as soon as I finish my daily writing on the next Caine thriller!

THRILL YOUR EARS – DEVIL’S DUE AUDIOBOOK IS LIVE!

Have you ever wondered what a deadly former assassin sounds like?  Or a Russian mobster?  Or a Thai smuggler?

Listen to the Devil’s Due audio book and you’ll find ouAudioBook (2)t!

As a writer, I’ve been lucky enough to work on a variety of projects… Marketing copy, promotional reels, screenplays, even comic books.  But adapting my prose to audio was a new experience for me.  A great experience, as it turned out.

Using the Amazon ACX program, I was able to audition several narrators for the book.  As soon as I heard the deep, gravelly voice of Bryan Anderson, I knew I had found my Caine!  Seriously, give the free sample a listen.  He captures the dark, brooding world of the story perfectly.

Bryan headshot Bryan Anderson

Some interesting facts about Bryan:  He is an FAA certified airframe and power-plant technician.  He has visited or worked in 43 of our 50 states (Not sure about US territories…)  And the man can rock the hell out of a cowboy hat!

Working with Bryan was a blast.  But translating Devil’s Due from the page to digital audio was not without challenges.  It’s one thing to write about Thai dishes such as Yam khai khem or Pu pad prik pao… It’s another thing to figure out how to pronounce them!

But Bryan was a trooper.  He put in the heart, soul, and hard work to make sure everything was right.  (And as always, any errors are mine and mine alone.)

Bryan’s wife Sonya even got into the act, and voiced some of the female characters.  Hearing them bring Caine and Naiyana to life was a true pleasure.  I got to experience the story all over again, in a new way.  When Caine and Pisac finally confront each other, Bryan’s voice sent chills down my spine!  I had to keep listening to the end, even though I wrote the thing!

If you’re an audio book fan, or if you’re just curious to hear what Thomas Caine might sound like, please give Devil’s Due a listen!

You can listen to a free sample here.  You can even download the audiobook for FREE with an Audible Free Trial (and you can cancel the trial at any time.)

Click here to check it out!

Please lave your comments below… does Caine sound the way you imagined?

Devil’s Due Hits #1!

Wow! I need to take a breath….

OK, a couple days ago Amazon finally allowed me to make Devil’s Due a free download. (You can still get it free by joining my readers’ group, but I know some people prefer to download from Amazon).

At first, I didn’t really see any change in activity. Sales were about the same as the they been before (after all, I was only charging 99 cents). But then this morning, after my morning coffee and writing, I checked my sales dashboard…

Devil's Due Ranking 2Super Saturday!

I am thrilled to report that Devil’s Due hit #1 in the Suspense category, and #6 in the Thriller category, in the Amazon Free store. This is huge, and from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who downloaded a copy. Hitting #1 on any list, free or not, is a tremendous honor. The fact that so many people are enjoying reading my books is just… honestly, it chokes me up a bit.

My dream was to get Devil’s Due into the hands of as many readers as possible. Thank you one and all for helping me to do that.

Oh, here is the free link to Amazon, just in case you know someone who would like it:

They can also download it free from Nook, and Kobo. (Or, of course, from my readers’ group!) More exciting news to come… Keep reading!

BECOME AN ADVANCE READER, WIN A KINDLE!

THOMAS CAINE RETURNS IN TOKYO BLACK:

Devil’s Due, the first Thomas Caine novella, is officially launched! You can get it free by joining my reader’s group HERE, or download it from Amazon for less than a dollar HERE. Now, it’s time to turn my attention to the first full length Thomas Caine novel, Tokyo Black!

I actually wrote Tokyo Black before Devil’s Due, but I wanted to give early readers a little bonus, so I wrote Devil’s Due and released it first. Tokyo Black is currently with an editor, and I plan to launch it this summer, probably sometime in June.

ADVANCE READER TEAM:

I’m building a team of advance readers who will get the first crack at reading Tokyo Black. Advance readers will get a free copy of the book two weeks before the launch date, in exchange for posting an honest review at Amazon. And one advance reader will be chosen at random to win a Kindle Paperwhite e-reader!

If you’d like to become an advance reader, it’s easy!  All you have to do is:

Get your copy of Devil’s Due (you can get it free here , or buy from Amazon for 99cents)

Post an honest review of Devil’s Due at Amazon.  Then, email me a link or screenshot of your posted review. Just mention “Advance Reader Team” in the email’s subject line.

That’s it! To keep the contest fair, I’m going to limit the available slots on the team. It’s first come, first serve, so if you are interested, please email me ASAP!

Thank you, and happy reading!

WHAT I’M WORKING ON NOW

Well, I was originally planning to write a short prequel novel that I would give away to readers when they signed up for my mailing list.  I thought it would be a nice way of saying thank you, and it would also get the Thomas Caine character out there faster, since the novel will still be in edit for a month or so.  For the novella, I was originally shooting for about twenty thousand words, but it looks like I overshot that a bit… and by a bit, I mean over fifty percent!  The final novella, entitled Devil’s Due, clocks in at around thirty five thousand words!

The good news is, I will still be giving this way for free!  It’s back from the editor and being formatted now.  I expect to have my mailing list up in the next week.  So, in a very short time, readers will be able to get their first taste of Thomas Caine, as he takes on human traffickers and the Russian Mafia in the streets and jungles of Thailand!

I will also put the novella up on Amazon, so if you enjoy the book, may I please ask you to leave a short review?  It would mean the world to me, as reviews are critical to authors getting their books in front of new readers.

Thank you in advance, and I hope you enjoy Devil’s Due!

In the meantime, Tokyo Black, the first full length novel in the Thomas Caine series, is out to the editor.  I expect to have it available for sale this summer, so join the mailing list for more news, sales, and special offers!   Subscribing is easy, and I will NEVER sell or give away your information for any reason.   No spam, guaranteed.   Plus, you get Devil’s Due absolutely free!

Finally, I have begun work on the next Thomas Caine novel, which will take place across China… more news to come!

Thank you for reading!
