Lost Worlds : Book Two
The Planet That Time Forgot
How did it go…?
1. Never trust a Rakken.
2. What? Hello? Were you not listening to 1?
But I’d been desperate. Caught on a space station fast running out of water air and power, I had no choice but to take the Rakken’s offer. Take one of their pods and escape to an unknown planet.
And now there are ancient beasts circling me on this strange and alien world, with only one plan…
To breed me.

What had I been thinking?
Had the Rakken—those lying, face-changing bastards—slipped me something so I agreed to this plan? Yes, the Arm of Orion was a station running on empty. We had only days left of provisions…and it’d been coming down to the choice of water, or air and power. But still…
I pushed my fingers through my sweat-damp hair and stared up into the darkening sky, the twinkling wash of stars pushing through the deep blue and streaks of gold and red. The reminder that I was planet-side. That and the heat and the dirt and the air. Air thick with the scent of damp vegetation and open water.
I stood at a rocky ridge overlooking an immense lake, the sun pushing long light over its vastness. Dusk at a watering hole. My chest was tight, fear heavy in my blood. Could there be a more dangerous time for me? Well, there could…because, there in the growing gloom, dark shapes moved below me. Water splashed. Branches rustled and cracked and a low, rhythmic whooping cut the silence.
Oh…fuck…
I hunkered down, pressed a hand to my breastbone and my pulse drummed under it. Shit. Shit. My breaths came out short and quiet as I strained to listen. A low thrum chased around me and almost dizzied my thoughts. What the fuck? Something was down there. And from that…noise, something…big.
I was so fucked.
“Rana Secunda-prime has a thriving civilisation and it will be more than happy to accommodate you. In fact, your skills are in short supply. I’m sure they’d be more that than happy for you to find a place there.”
The Rakken had smiled then, his dark eyes bright. Open. Honest. And stupid, stupid me had been gulled by a false and pretty face. Flattered. After all, who paid any attention to me? Sitting on my ass, punching numbers as I kept everyone breathing on the station. One moment of thought would’ve screamed the obvious question at me. Who needed my skill set on a viable planet?
My real skill? Being a first class idiot.
I should’ve stayed on the station. At least nothing there planned to fucking eat me.

The air was thick with the stink of metal and skin and wet fur…and somewhere off to my left, was the slow drip, drip, drip of water splashing against stone.
Where was I? I…I couldn’t remember…anything. How I got here, where I’d been. I was…Arabella. Lady Arabella, a Daughter of the Doge of Fent. Gods above and below, had I been taken for ransom?
I huffed out a sharp breath and the air steamed white around me. I was the seventh daughter of the Honoured Doge’s fourth wife. I doubted father would even notice I was absent from the palace. He was, after all, overrun with offspring.
Whoever these…kidnappers were, they’d get no good gold for me.
Still—missed or not—I had to find my way out. If I was worth only pennies, the loss of my virginity would leave me with nothing. It was my only prize, as my all-caring father had promised it and me to one of his ancient generals. A fresh cunt for his old and diseased dick.
I wry smile tugged at my mouth. Marla’s words. My half-sister did have a way with them.
Moonlight formed a silver grid on the stone floor before me, pale and cool and I fought to bring my swirling thoughts to order.
Something…glinted out from the heavy shadows.
Caught on the edge of the pattern of light was a curve of grey and shining metal.
I frowned. It was…familiar.
The carnival.
The sudden flash of bright memory brought my hand to my skull, fingers digging through the tangle of my hair and the last moments played out…
* * *
Yes, I’d broken free of my sour-faced chaperone, escaping through the billowing maze of red silks to the one curiosity that had fired through my mind since my half-sister’s first whispers.
The displays of animal automata. All breathing metal, driven by steam and magic. And…and desire.
Silvered light shafted through the gaps in the red awning, mixing with the golden light of the lamps jutting out from the ornate metal frame of the stage. It was a bronze square in the centre of the flow of silk, the street cobbles covered with a deep carpet. I shuffled forward, pushing through unknown bodies, the rugs silencing my feet.
There was only the murmur of the watching patrons and quiet breathing, white steam teasing up into the chilled air. Men and women in scarlet coats pushed collection boxes through the waiting crowd, the dull tink of coins following. Marla said that magic would bind us now, no…performance going ahead until everyone had dropped a properly minted piece of gold into the waiting box.
My wicked half-sister had slipped me enough money, gleaned—she said—from baring her breasts to one of their father’s foul ministers. With a smirk, she admitted she’d let him slurp and grunt over her, sucking and tugging on her nipples in return for the sparkling bracelet she wore on her right wrist.
Marla enjoyed controlling them, having power over the powerful men who craved her flesh.
I envied my sister her easily satisfied desires. Mine… What I wanted, what I needed could not be found even in my father’s opulent and depraved palace.
But in this tent…
The scarlet coats had disappeared into the shadows and a prickle of binding magic chased over the silk of the tent. We’d met the payment and the show could begin.

I’m back…better late than never ;-)
I will admit, getting back into the flow of writing has been difficult since the start of the year, but I finally found a way into writing again.
My lovely plans went out the window, so I have this Lost Worlds idea and a naughty steampunk wolf series of four stories, Sorcerer’s Wolves.
I’m happy to be back on the horse, which is an…interesting place to be considering what I write…

Taking a Winter Break
[image error]
Amazon closes down to uploading new books from Indie Authors tomorrow…so it’s a good time for me–and my lascivious monsters–to have a little rest until the New Year.
I’d like to thank all the new readers who’ve found me in the past few months. I’m so happy you love my hell-dogs and magical horses and dragons and wolves and orcs as much as my heroines do!
What’s coming up for 2018?
Well, I’m not done with my Orcs, though I will be moving a little further afield than War-Blade’s palace. So that will be fun.
I have more on my Monsters from the Deep, another two books at least.
There’ll probably be a spring Taboo Feast story…I just have to find the right angle.
I want to get back to the these two series: Monstrous Kings and House of the Forbidden. I know I’ve left them hanging and I’m sorry.
And–for those asking for longer works–I have a novel in its early stages. I hope that all falls together in the middle of spring. I’m so excited about this one, as it will also be in print. My first!
So…have a safe and happy rest of December and I’ll be back in January.
