Problem With Plagiarist
Author Yamila Abraham here. Misha Adrik plagiarized my book Maelstrom 1 and used it as extra content in their book Holiday Wishes and Alien Kisses. I didn’t have a way to contact them, so I just called them out on Facebook and Goodreads.
Their response was cordial, but they deny they plagiarized. They asked me to contact them, but I can’t negotiate if they’re not going to admit what they did.
So here it is. I’m stating my case here.
At the end of the book is a bonus chapter called ‘Lightning’.
Several fans contacted me to alert me that this was a rip-off of my story Maelstrom 1, which you can get free on Smashwords here.
They rewrote Maelstrom 1, but it’s very obvious that they were inspired by it.
Lightning - Deacon has a choice to go to prison or be a miner on a mining planet.
Maelstrom 1 - Demetri has a choice to go to prison or be a miner on a mining planet.
Lighting - Deacon has an implant in his head for a translator unit
Maelstrom 1 - Demetri has an implant in his head for a translator unit
Lightning - The translator unit is a prissy 3PO type that talks in his head named Head-Jack
Maelstrom 1 - The translator unit is a prissy 3PO type that talks in his head named BrainBox
Lightning - The only females on planet Cesran are in the ruling class.
Maelstrom Series - The only females on planet Secren (an anagram of Cesran) are in the ruling class.
Lighting - All the men on the planet are gay because there’s no available women
Maelstrom - All the men on the planet are gay because there’s no available women
Lighting - Each man gets a brand that marks them as either an Alpha, Beta, or Celibate.
Maelstrom - Exactly the same.
Lightning - Miners on the mining planet are paid with food.
Maelstrom 1 - Miners on the mining planet are paid with food.
Lightning - Nerve-number is used to deal with pain.
Maelstrom Series - The exact phrase ‘nerve-number’ is used in my series for the same purpose.
Lightning - Deacon’s not gay and is pissed off at the prospect
Maelstrom - Demitri’s not gay and is pissed off at the prospect
Lightning - When you meet a biologically compatible match you experience a lightning strike where you become susceptible to falling in love with them.
Maelstrom - When you meet a biologically compatible match you experience a phenomenon called lightning where you become susceptible to falling in love with them.
Lightning - The lightning strike will alter their biology.
Maelstrom Series - Lightning alters Maelstrom’s biology, it’s implied that it alters Demitri’s too.
Lightning - Head-Jack warns Deacon about the importance of the cultural rituals on the planet.
Maelstrom - Brainbox gives the same warning to Demitri.
Lightning - Most humans to the world take celibate brands but end up as betas.
Maelstrom Series - Most humans to the world take celibate brands but end up as betas.
Lightning - The Cesran men are bigger and stronger than Deacon. Humans are seen as delicate.
Maelstrom 1 - The Secren men are bigger and stronger than Demitri. Humans are seen as delicate.
Lightning - Head-Jack is worried that Deacon’s insistence on being celibate might get him killed.
Maelstrom 1 - BrainBox is worried that Demitri’s insistence on being celibate might get him killed.
Lightning - Head-Jack makes Deacon hallucinate a red circle to show him where to go.
Maelstrom 1 - BrainBox makes Demitri hallucinate a black circle to show him where to go.
Lightning - There is a digital directory that tells mine bosses about the new miners who come to the world.
Maelstrom Series - There is a newsletter that tells mine bosses about the new miners who come to the world.
I have over 100 books, and even though I’ve stopped writing new ones, it doesn’t mean my old ones are up for grabs. It’s wrong for someone to take something you created and claim it’s their own…and then sell it.
I don’t see any kind of good resolution here. All I’m doing is warning people not to support this author. We can not support plagiarists and let them profit over work they did not create.
