Can We Talk About Mac McCarthy?
I’ve never written more about any one character than I have about Mac McCarthy, and by extension, his wife Maddie. Mac and Maddie, the stars of Gansett Island Book 1, Maid for Love, appear in every book in the series with new story every time. We’ve seen them through their momentous meeting, to overcoming significant obstacles to be together, to their wedding, the birth of their daughter and many other highs and a few lows.
Of all the things I love about writing the Gansett Series, I love writing Mac and whatever he’s getting up to now the most. Whether it’s talking his sister into buying “extra large” condoms for him or thinking up ways to crash girls’ night out or, in Desire After Dark, plotting his revenge for the prank the ladies played on the guys in Love After Dark, writing Mac is always fun. I won’t ruin it for anyone who hasn’t read the books yet, but suffice to say the women got them GOOD, and now Mac’s out for vengeance.
Of course, Mac being Mac, the path to revenge doesn’t run smoothly, nor do his plans for romantic time alone with his wife during the holidays. You can plan everything except for sick kids, as Mac finds out.
Just when we think Mac is on the verge of becoming a total buffoon, he busts out the best speech ever at his parents’ anniversary party or he steps up for Kyle and Jackson Chandler after their mother dies. He’s everyone’s best friend, the best brother (most of the time) to his siblings and the first of the McCarthy siblings to forge a bond with Mallory, the half sister they didn’t know they had.
If you haven’t read Desire After Dark, suffice to say you’re in for a treat where Mac is concerned. Mac is on FIRE in this book, and he had me laughing HARD in more than one place as I wrote it. I love Mac, as if he’s a real, live person, and I know many of you do, too.
So let me ask you this, knowing what we know about Mac, is Maddie the luckiest girl on earth OR does she need to be sainted?
If you haven’t read the new book yet, skip the comments as they may contain spoilers.
