Handling the Ache of Empty Arms
Don’t you love how we can express ourselves in different ways? For some, their chosen avenue is music. For others, it is art. Still others find their creative outlet in photography or cooking or knitting. The list goes on and on.
We writers use words to share our hearts with the world. But even within that world of words, we can choose different forms of expression. And you know what I’ve discovered? Sometimes a poem says it best. I pray that this one blesses you.
Empty Arms
No one warned her it...
Creamy Addition to Your Wedding Dessert Bar
Mother of the Bride, have your daughter and her groom-to-be decided to have a dessert bar at their wedding reception? If so, I bet the ideas are flying concerning exactly what to include. May I throw another idea into the mix?
A creamy pudding or mousse could provide a light and delicious dessert option for your wedding guests. Chocolate (pictured above) would be sure to be a hit, but lots of other flavors would be great possibilities too. Your daughter might even be able to match the flavor to ...

Healed by God’s Word
“He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.” Psalm 107:20 NIV
Our celebration of Easter each spring reminds us that Jesus “was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5 NIV) Praise God for the healing that comes from his wounds! For the price he paid for our sins.
But not only are we healed by his wounds, the verse above from Psalm 107 points out tha...
Fun Nail Polish Gift from the Bride to Her Maids
Mother of the Bride, at some point in the days or weeks preceding the wedding, here’s a fun gift idea for the bride to give her bridesmaids—nail polish! And not just any nail polish, but nail polish in the color of their dresses or bouquets. Fun and pretty, too, huh?
Not only will your daughter’s maids appreciate this special treat, but it will help their overall wedding day look come together as well. Variety can look fun and festive on the big day, but uniformity has a special beauty too.
And ...

God Hasn’t Forgotten You
Long term trials have a way of wearing us down—in more ways than one. Whether it’s ongoing illness, unemployment, marital problems, teenage rebellion, or any number of other anguish inducing situations, we soon grow weary physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We eventually wonder if God has forgotten us, don’t we?
If today you feel that God doesn’t hear your cries anymore or that he doesn’t care about you, remember that he loves us so much he sent his only Son to be our Savior. Tak...
Sheet Music Design for Bridal Bouquet and Boutonniere
Mother of the Bride, are your sweet Mr. & Mrs.-to-Be music lovers? If so, they may want to plan some of the elements of their wedding with a music motif. And that’s wonderful because possibilities abound!
One way to incorporate a music theme into a wedding is to use sheet music to make the bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere. Isn’t this a clever idea? Not only is it unique, but it’s actually quite attractive—not to mention the fact that it reflects the couple’s love for music. Definitely a wi...

A Prayer for Finishing Strong
Do you know someone trying to finish a project or reach a goal? Maybe a family member just about to graduate from high school or college or trying to complete an advanced degree? Or perhaps some of your teacher friends are trying to hang in there the last few weeks of the school year.
You may even be in the trying-to-finish category yourself right now. I know I am. The manuscript for my Christmas devotional book is due to the publisher on August 1 so I’m in the last stages of writing, editing, a...
Wedding Cake Inspiration: Coconut Cloud
Mother of the Bride, are you and your little-girl-turned-bride-to-be looking at wedding cakes yet? If so, you’ve probably discovered a plethora of choices. Allow me to add another one today.
The coconut cloud cake puts a whole new spin—and texture—to a traditional cake. Not only is it a perfect choice if the bride and groom are coconut lovers, but it will allow their cake to stand out as a little more unique than many others.
I especially like the coconut touch on an ombre cake (as pictured abov...

Sometimes We Need to be Carried
Sometimes we need to be carried. Just ask the little bird who’s hitchin’ a ride on the back of the pronghorn above—a sight we witnessed over ten years ago on our trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone.
Maybe the little guy was tired from a long flight through the mountains or possibly he wasn’t feeling well. Maybe that was the best spot in the meadow to catch a refreshing breeze. Whatever the reason, he decided to use someone else’s strength for a bit.
I wonder if any of us need to be carried today,...
Wedding Day Photo: Black and White Bubble Shot
Mother of the Bride, I’ve got a great wedding day photo idea for you today. I hope you and the happy couple are keeping a list of must-have shots to share with your photographer. If so, you might want to add this to your list pronto.
If your daughter and her groom have decided to use bubbles during their send-off from the church or reception site, why not ask the photographer to use a black and white photo finish.
As you can see in the photo above, this shot done in black and white really causes...
