However, if you want to boost your chances of success as a writer, it's well worth focusing your time and energy on getting into a great writing routine.
Once you start to write every day, you'll see many benefits. You'll improve your writing skills, you'll find it easier to pick up where you left off, you'll feel like a 'real' writer so will have more confidence in your abilities, and you'll be less likely to let that inner critique or writer's block stop you from achieving your goals.
One key component of effective daily writing is to ensure that you remain organized. Here are some helpful tips to ensure that you organize your time and become a more productive writer as a result:
Organize your writing day using these top tips!Set your schedule
This may seem obvious, but setting up a writing schedule is easier said than done. You might need to accept that this is a process of trial and error. First, you need to define your goals; then you need to decide upon your deadlines. Then you need to schedule your work to ensure you meet those deadlines. You need to be realistic here. While it's OK to challenge yourself if you try to cram too much in and don't leave any room for flexibility, you'll end up falling behind and always be on the back foot trying to catch up.
Become an 'early to bed, early to rise,' kind of personOK, so you might have visions of yourself writing until the wee small hours of the morning, perhaps with a glass of your favorite tipple in hand, but this is just a romantic notion and not a very effective way to write. If you can get a good night's sleep and then get up early feeling refreshed and full of energy, you'll find that your concentration and focus are greatly improved. You also will have time to write even if you have a day job to go to after, where if you wait until the end of a busy day to do so, you may find more often than not you aren't up for it.
Set aside time for both writing and readingIf all you do is focus your writing and never allow yourself time to read, you could be doing yourself a disservice. Reading is a critical and significant part of the writing process, so make sure you make room in your schedule to kick back with a good book too. Your writing will improve hugely because of it!
Get inspired by other people's writing.Reading is one way to find inspiration for your own work. But don't stop there. There are so many incredible places to find great content that could give you ideas and help you to define your own writing style. Should You Kill Off A Character?
Wondering whether you should kill off a character? Read on to discover if it is the right time!
There comes a time in every author's life when they have to decide whether or not it might be time to say a fond farewell to a character they've created and kill them off. It can be tough for authors to let go. However despicable the character or timely the death may be, we can often find ourselves thinking up weird and wonderful twists to keep them living on.
On the other hand, we might find ourselves desperate to ensure that one of our characters meets their maker and may have been plotting their demise from the outset!
The truth is that there are sometimes good reasons to kill a character and sometimes wrong reasons to do so. Making sure that you are doing so because it will enhance your story and make your readers react, is imperative.
What are some of the right reasons to kill off a character?Advances the plot
Allows the protagonist to fulfill their goal
Promotes action and inspires others
Changes the course of action
Emphasizes the theme
Makes the fictional world and plot more believable
Removes a character who was important, but no longer has a place in the story
To shock your readers (but for no other purpose). Shock value and exciting twists have their place, but shocking a reader for the sake of it without any other reason is not advisable.
To try to evoke emotion in your readers (but for no other purpose). Making your readers cry can help connect them to the story. However, if you are killing beloved characters off and it doesn't advance the story or inspire action, you might make them feel betrayed and annoyed too.
To remove a character because they are no longer significant (but never were necessary). If this is the case, you must ask yourself why you included the character in your story in the first place.
From the above, you will have a better understanding of what will make a character's death seem intentioned. Also what could make your characters end frustrate and irritate your readers. This will contribute to the success of your book, as well as
Pay attention to your characters!Remember, all your characters should have a specific and clear purpose to be included in your novel and a precise reason to be removed. If you are confident that a character's death will fulfill a purpose, and you feel it's time to let them go, go for it! But make sure there is something or someone else there to fill the hole that they will leave.

How To Test Your Story Idea
If you have got a new story idea, how do you test it to see whether it has legs? When it comes to writing, our only limitations are our imaginations. However, this does not automatically mean that every idea we have is a good one. So how do you find out if the idea that came to you the other day in a rush of excitement and adrenaline is actually worth pursuing? Let’s explore how to build your story ideas so you can be sure that they will sustain a full story.
Testing your story idea - our top tips!Flesh it outThe test is a simple one. You need to be able to add depth to your story. If you get stuck and a racking you brains at this stage, the warning flags should appear. If however, you find it easy to get more of a sense of your characters and how the story will flow, you might be onto something good.
Here are some exercises to try.
Write a single page about your protagonistWrite a full page describing who your main character is. The central character in your novel should be someone you feel strongly connected to and can visualize easily, so writing a page exploring who they are should be no problem.
Sum up the central ideaEvery story needs a solid idea at its core. See if you can get to grips with yours in just a few sentences.
Write the opening few paragraphsYou should be excited to start your story, so test out the idea by writing the opening to see if you feel as though you can start to build your fictional world and the characters that inhabit it.
Plot out the story pointsYou should also be able to map out your story in its entirety. This doesn’t have to be an in-depth plot outline for now, but at least you should be able to see where it is going and how your character’s journey progresses
If you are able to do the above and are left feeling exciting, confident, and desperate to get started, it looks like you have a story idea worth pursuing. If however, you found the process laborious, frustrating, and difficult, you might find that you are wasting your time. At this early stage if the ideas aren’t flowing and you aren’t excited, you’ll find it an even tougher challenge to write an entire novel. Writing a book takes a mammoth amount of time and effort so you need to be fully engaged from the outset, otherwise its unlikely you’ll ever get to the end.
Your plot should be full of action and conflict, a clear goal, and revolving around an arresting cast of characters. Once you’ve got this established you are ready to write. So the next time you are deliberating over whether to pursue a story idea, use the above to test it and you’ll soon discover whether it’s one you should invest more time in.
