Adam and Eve were Naked. Can You Prove this also Means they had a Clear Mind?

A clear mind. That appears to have nothing to do with Adam and Eve being naked. That’s because the English cannot render the fuller meaning of the Biblical Hebrew

Let’s confirm that a ‘clear mind’ is a deeper meaning of ‘aram’ or ‘arm’ (Strong’s 6175) translated ‘naked’ in Genesis 2.25. Does this mental state of ‘prudence’ correspond to their physical state of nakedness? Only the Biblical Hebrew can tell us if this is the case.

Origin of the Universe, chapter 6.3

Possessing a clear mind. That was the mental state of Adam and Eve. This is a profounder meaning of them being naked ... as the Biblical Hebrew reveals.

A 'clear mind' is a deeper meaning of 'aram' or 'arm' (Strong's 6175) translated 'naked' in Genesis 2.25. Does this mental state of 'prudence' correspond to their physical state of nakedness? Only the Biblical Hebrew can tell us.

After God worked with Adam and Eve on the initial seventh day, they had ‘mental’ prudence (2nd meaning of ‘aram’ – 6175), discretion and wisdom. They each had a clear mind, transparent and tidy, they had a limpid picture of the mosaic. I’m not saying they knew all the pieces and had all knowledge, I’m saying they had proper, pure understanding that God had given them, similar to the reason for composing the book of Proverbs:

Prov 1:1-4

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty (Strong’s H6195 using the Biblical Hebrew root ‘ARM’ see last blog post) to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion

The above is the description of a positive clear mind. Notice that the subtilty in verse 4 is a positive quality to possess. While we’re in Proverbs 1, notice the context surrounding the beginning of this book, right after mentioning the constructive type of discernment: constructive ‘ARM’.

Prov 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Galacti’s mind is racing.

Apply the principle here in Proverbs to our play. This is the subtext. Through his actions and dialogue, God is saying to Adam and Eve: Be prudent, don’t be fools. Or as a parent might say, ‘I’m telling you this for your own good. I’m giving you a clean start. I want only the best for you, I want you to be WITH me, and all these rules, this wisdom and instruction, will make that possible’. A smart start, in other words.

The proverbs 1.1-4 of Solomon are to give subtilty (Strong's H6195 using the Biblical Hebrew root 'ARM'. The same word translated 'naked') to the simple... This is the description of a positive clear mind.

At the very outset of the relationship between God and the first couple, it is this ‘wisdom and instruction’ that God shared with Adam and Eve on the Sabbath. The discernment and fresh clear mind can be attributed to that wisdom. Adam and Eve weren’t confused because they only had God’s understanding in the beginning.

What we’ve just done is what I call ‘corroborating Biblewide contexts.’ Evidence that we’ve got the pieces of the Bible puzzle in their justifiable places. They fit. When you have the master pieces firmly in mind, these corroborating Biblewide contexts will jump out at you while you study, so that your Bible reading takes on an overall encompassing view, not simply a nitpicking, verse by verse, piecemeal approach. The principal point of Proverbs 1 intermeshes  with Genesis 1 and 2; we can know what God was doing with His  human creation on that first Sabbath day.

Galacti’s eye-opening comprehension kicks in: ‘You don’t need any sages, interpreters, gurus, or organized religions telling you what such and such means. You do need a complete Bible toolkit including some direction, some basics and a good concordance and lexicon. And, of course, the solid foundation: The original Hebrew and Greek words, their meaning and where you can find them in the Bible so you can see the all-important context.’

The rest of Origin of the Universe, including all the exposition of words and principles in the Bible, relies solely on the tenets laid out in the preceding few paragraphs. We don’t need any extraneous works. I’m not saying that it isn’t interesting and fine to read and listen to other views, it is. Often, paying heed to different points of view triggers thoughts and ideas one hasn’t considered—but they must fit in the overall framework of the puzzle. If they don’t, they’re discarded. After all, Adam and Eve having a clear mind didn’t result from debating contradictory doctrines or computer analytics of biblical vocabulary to try to figure out who wrote what book. It came solely from God.

Is this discreet wisdom puzzle piece, possessed by Adam and Eve, corroborated by anything else in the context? Yes:

Prov 2:25

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed (Strong’s H954).

Adam and Eve were not ashamed of being naked either with each other or in the presence of God. From a ‘physical’ point of view, that’s the way God created them and that’s all they knew at this point—and they were comfortable with it. Let’s take a closer look at the Hebrew for ashamed:

H954.

בּוּשׁ bûwsh boosh; a primitive root; properly, to pale, i.e. by implication to be ashamed; also (by implication) to be disappointed or delayed:

KJV – (be, make, bring to, cause, put to, with, a-) shamed(-d), be (put to) confounded(-fusion), become dry, delay, be long.

We focus on the various alternate translation of buwsh . Not only is it shamed but confounded or confusion. Adam and Eve had God’s wisdom and were ‘not ashamed’–not confounded or not in confusion. This makes sound contextual sense—and adds a totally new dimension to this verse. Can we corroborate this comprehension Biblewide?

Let’s look at a few of the verses where we find this same Strong’s 954 Hebrew root.

Psalm 22:5 They cried to you, and were delivered: they trusted in you, and were not confounded (954).

Psalm 35:4  Let them be confounded (954) and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

Psalm 71:1 In you, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion (954). 13 Let them be confounded (954) and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt. 24  My tongue also shall talk of your righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded (954), for they are brought to shame, that seek my hurt.

Most commentators suggest that Adam and Eve were naked and not ashamed on the ‘visible’ level, which is absolutely correct. However, they remain hung up on outward appearances. I dare say, similarly, most readers of this blog had no idea of this more profound level of the Biblical Hebrew. This is what I mean by ‘Mastering Biblical Hebrew to Unlock Bible Meaning.’

Adam and Eve, who remain onstage in their original state, are 100 percent natural on the physical level (naked) identical to their spiritual level (prudence – clear mind). They have the discernment and are not confounded. Each clear mind is not muddled. They don’t even know what ‘muddled’ is.

Galacti is in a state of astonishment. ‘Wow, I’ve read these verses in Genesis umpteen times and never ever realized this comprehension was there. And the amazing thing is that since Adam and Eve were with God in His Garden, it’s only logical that they were filled with His knowledge and each had a clear mind with no bafflement.

I’ve read these verses in Genesis umpteen times and never ever realized this comprehension was there. Since Adam and Eve were with God in His Garden, they were filled with His knowledge. Each had a clear mind with no bafflement.

The Hebrew meanings of arom and buwsh corroborate their actual state, and their state corroborates the Hebrew. It’s not a tautology, it’s essential information which Sam will come back to because there’s even more to this verse. There’s no forcing or twisting, the pieces fit—and to think we’re only at the beginning of the story. I’ll bet there’s going to be a lot of other such comprehension. Even if this is a fairytale, it’s enlightening’.

The Hebrew meanings of 'arom' and 'buwsh' in Genesis 2.25 corroborate the state of Adam and Eve. They were 'naked' and not 'ashamed' but especially mentally 'prudent' with no 'confusion.'

The 900-year-old Adam would, were he present at this moment, surely recall the interaction he and Eve, in their pristine mental state, had with the clever Serpent. The Serpent is also filled with subtlety, since ‘arom’ also applies to the Serpent. How can both Adam and the Serpent be described by the same Hebrew word ‘arom?’

Look at this verse in Strong: Psalm 71:24  My tongue also shall talk of your righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded (954), for they are brought to shame, that seek my hurt.

Notice …brought to ‘shame’… This is the same English word at Gen. 2.25 but it is a totally different Hebrew root / word. I point this out so you can see what we’re dealing with here. Notice the KJV translations in Strong for this ‘shame’ (2659), they include similar words to 954 like confusion and confounded. Hebrew does have synonyms, different words with the same meaning. But, in some cases, as we see with ‘aram’ the Author is very specific in his choice of vocabulary. There’s a reason for this.

Body Care – Day in, Day out Our Physical Body is Present. How do we Treat it?

Body care is a multi-billion dollar sector of the economy. In particular it is a very personal issue. We all have an interest in caring for its well-being. How are we doing?
Body care. Depends a lot on nutrition and fitness. How are we doing in these two areas of treating our bodies?

Body care. Depends a lot on nutrition and fitness. How are we doing in these two areas of treating our bodies?

“We are creating real benefits via body care, as we’ve just observed, for the bodies of individuals and humanity in general,” Galacti says. “But are there any secondary effects? Let’s examine. Our audit of medical accomplishments tells one side of how humans value their bodies, but it’s a rarified look. We see a bird’s-eye view of what the experts and professionals do.”

(Audit of the Universe, chapter 8.2)

Body Care on a Daily basis and Unforseen Health Costs

I respond. “Like in our overall investigation, it’s important that we see the whole picture and not just a piece of the puzzle. Now let’s talk about the day-to-day habits we have toward our bodies. All intelligent beings are the sum of their habits. What do our habits say about us? Are they beneficial or detrimental to our health, welfare and lifespans?”

Food for Thought

Consider a medieval farmer in Europe or in Asia. He woke up near dawn to tend his fields and livestock, working until sunset made it too dark to see. Besides the farming and shepherding, each day required him to chop wood, carry water and walk for miles. Each calorie he took in by eating required hard physical labor to produce and earn. Those calories were fresh and largely unprocessed, and included many fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Excellent for body care.

Compare this to a modern executive’s relationship with food. He wakes before dawn and returns home after dark, but his work day consists of sitting in his car or sitting at a desk. His calories—oftentimes, of which he consumes more than he expends—are commonly prepackaged and preprocessed. His diet contains fewer whole grains, fruits or vegetables and more fat, sugar and salt.

Our relationship with food has changed significantly over the centuries. What used to require a thousand calories to produce now takes fifty calories to buy. Whole grain loaves from grain we grew has given way to soft, sugary breads we buy from a rack at the store, or a “Happy Meal” bought and consumed in the car. This imbalance, like the other imbalances we’ve examined in or audit, causes problems — in this case illnesses like obesity, diabetes and heart disease. In developed nations worldwide, the cost of medical problems related to overeating far exceeds the costs from malnutrition.

In some cases, the best food choices for our bodies are easy to see but more difficult to act on. A mother in an impoverished neighborhood of a major city like London, Beijing or Chicago might know to avoid processed foods and to prepare fresh vegetables for her children—but well-supplied grocery stores and farmer’s markets are few and far between in a slum. The economic realities of access to nutritious foods forces her to feed her children with wilting lettuce, frozen peas and bags of processed carbohydrates. Not to mention foods that lack the necessities of basic nutrition like proteins, trace elements, vitamins and essential minerals that body care demands.

Drinking soda instead of water is unhealthy, but the realities complicate that decision. In much of Mexico, tap water is unsafe to drink. Much like our medieval ancestors drank beer because it was safer than untreated water, many Mexicans drink soda because it is cheaper and easier to obtain than safe drinking water. Increased consumption of soft drinks in Mexico has happened concurrently with the country becoming the world’s worst in obesity per capita.

A similar health problem appeared in Central America and Africa when baby formula was first introduced to developing nations in those regions. Although formula is a healthy alternative to breast milk, this is only the case if it’s made using safe drinking water. The unintended consequences of bringing powdered formula to a community without safe water included as many as one million infant deaths from malnutrition and diarrhea.

Staying fit, use It or lose It

Keeping our bodies healthy requires two sides of a behavioral coin. On the opposite side from eating right is getting sufficient exercise. French health resources recommend walking a minimum of 10,000 steps each day, while American information pegs the minimum at 20 minutes of moderate exercise daily. Fitness professionals recommend 30 minutes of cardiovascular workouts three days a week, plus vigorous resistance training on three other days. The details aren’t as important as their clear consensus: daily vigorous activity is an important part of treating our body care with respect.

When allowed to remain sedentary, body care is not at its best. Insufficient activity leads to increased risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and some forms of cancer — as well as various mental illnesses including anxiety and depression disorders. Remaining active after turning 50 can slow—and in some cases reverse—age-related degeneration of muscle and bone.

Our children are a telling illustration of how this growing inactivity affects peace and prosperity by limiting our health and wellness. Since 1999, the number of obese teens in developed countries has increased to where nearly one in five boys is obese. That boy lives daily with the exertion of carrying extra fat, the discomfort of needing two seats on the school bus, and being ridiculed by classmates and often by teachers. As an adult, he will suffer even more physical discomfort, be discriminated against for jobs and promotions, and likely die early from heart disease, diabetes or several kinds of cancer.

In 2010 alone, we spent $665 billion worldwide on exercise, nutrition, fitness and weight loss programs. Athletic events like the Olympics and World Cup attract audiences of billions each year, and elite athletes are admired in all nations. We idolize these athletic paragons, precisely because we value and respect the importance of health and wellness.

We show that appreciation and respect in the widespread popularity of programs that encourage physical fitness. The “Exercise is Medicine” initiative is an example of one such program. Practiced in 31 countries, promoted by national governments and supported with private donations, it combines a free-for-everybody “Action Guide” with incentives for individuals to take responsibility for their own health. Programs like this are common throughout the developed world, led by medical professionals, government officials and corporate leaders alike. This is real promotion of body care.

Through their influence, and many others men and women have found the motivation and resources to make positive changes to their own health. It doesn’t matter whether it’s running, fitness, gym, dancing, indoor, outdoor, personal or team fitness programs, it’s your body and each one’s decision for personal body care. Initiatives like this demonstrate that we are willing to take action toward better health if given even a small push, and that the organizations we participate in are also becoming aware of the vitality of the physical body.

It seems that God’s Goal went Awry because of the Serpent in the Garden of Eden

The Serpent in the Garden of Eden was quickly on the scene and in short order, with subtlety, seduced Eve and lead humanity into a downward spiral.
The Serpent in the Garden of Eden. What does his subtlety mean? What has it got to do with how he dealt with Eve?

The Serpent in the Garden of Eden. What does his subtlety mean? What has it got to do with how he dealt with Eve?

It seems that God’s goal went astray, God managed to be WITH Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden but for a short time—until the Serpent in the Garden of Eden warped Humans, conned them into doing the opposite of what God had instructed, causing them to be catapulted from the Garden outside the gate. Later, as we’ll see, even from Eden itself into hostile territory, into Serpent terrain, enemy ground.

(Origin of the Universe, chapter 6.2)

Humankind is right there, right now, operating in very unGodly terrain.

Galacti is our fictitious time-traveling, investigative, roving reporter who lends his insights and voice to the development of the narrative

Galacti’s mind is in motion. “Yes,but if God allowed the Serpent in the Garden of Eden freedom to tempt Adam and Eve, surely He must’ve realized that, given their free will, they might go down the wrong path? Does God have a plan ‘b’? Hmm, could it even be that this whole episode is part of God’s plan? Maybe God knew that sooner or later their free will would succumb to the beguiling Serpent in the Garden of Eden, in which case this is only a beginning stage in God’s plan—in fact, it is part of the plan”.

Since God allowed the Serpent in the Garden of Eden freedom to tempt Adam and Eve, He must’ve realized that, given their free will, they might go down the wrong path? In which case this is only a beginning stage in God’s plan—in…
Click To Tweet

Nice thinking, Galacti. For portions of the answer, let’s look at Genesis 2.25 and Genesis 3.1 in the Bible.

Gen 2.25 and Gen 3.1. Two verses, side by side, one Biblical Hebrew word with two different translations. It’s the same word with identical root letters to grab your attention in Hebrew, but, unfortunately, completely overlooked in translation, thus burying the deeper gist that discloses the significant shape of this piece.

Genesis 2:25-3:125 And they were both naked (6174), the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

3.1 Now the serpent was more subtil (6175) than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

In Strong’s, below, you can see that both ‘naked’ and ‘subtil’ emanate from the same 3 letter root > 6191:

Strong’s Concordance

H6174. עָרוֹם ʻârôwm aw-rome’; or עָרֹם; from H6191 (עָרַם) (in its original sense); nude, either partially or totally:
KJV – naked.

H6175. עָרוּם ʻârûwm aw-room’; passive participle of H6191(עָרַם); cunning (usually in a bad sense):
KJV – crafty, prudent, subtil.

H6191. עָרַם ʻâram aw-ram’; a primitive root; properly, to be (or make) bare; but used only in the derivative sense (through the idea perhaps of smoothness) to be cunning (usually in a bad sense):
KJV –  very, beware, take crafty (counsel), be prudent, deal subtilly.

This is the reason we’re using Strong’s Concordance. In fact, this might be the moment to go back and reread parts of the chapter about Strong’s Concordance. This is how we begin to learn the relationship between the meanings / translations of the SAME Hebrew word.

NB: Whenever we see ‘KJV’ in Strong’s, the list of words that follows represent the numerous ways in the King James Bible that the translators rendered the same Hebrew word. In any foreign language translation it is impossible to know what the original Hebrew word is, and how this Hebrew word is translated in other Bible passages.

Sam’s Sidebar

Let’s interject a few thoughts about these two verses before we get into them. In the chapter about Biblical Hebrew we discussed how Hebrew roots can be used and how we have to be so careful when using a foreign language to expound their meanings. This one word ‘aram’ in two juxtaposed verses is a practical lesson of this Hebrew key. ‘Aram’ reveals the ‘double meanings’ of the same root.

‘Aram’ shows we don’t need ‘human wisdom and sages’, commentators and teachers (including the author!) to interpret and reveal what ‘aram’ means.

We need proper Bible study tools and a guide with correct knowledge in how to use them (that will be Sam’s role). ‘Aram’ shows us that ‘context’ in its overall aspect (Bible-wide, both OT and NT) and its comprehension are king, as we shall see.

Galacti realizes that there are other Hebrew words both for ‘naked’ (5783 [although 2 of the 3 root letter ‘a,r’ are present] and 6544) and ‘subtle’ (2450 and 5341). The author of Genesis could’ve used either of them in place of ‘arm’ but he didn’t because through this usage of the same Hebrew word there’s a lesson to learn about Adam and Eve and the Serpent in the Garden of Eden. A lesson that is not expressed in a foreign language!
Galacti realizes that this use of ‘Biblical Hebrew’ has nothing to do with: cultural settings, historical usage, exegesis, interpretations, biblical criticism, commentaries, traditions, scholarship etc.
There’s nothing ‘magic’ here. It does however necessitate going further than just ‘reading your Bible translation.’

Sam’s Sidebar

Let me say that a number of years ago when I first ran across these two verses in Genesis with this juxtaposition of the same root (6191) translated differently I was just as surprised as you are! This verse is what inspired me to push this study of Biblical Hebrew to the point of writing The Explanation. As with myself, you are going to learn the deeper meanings and reality of the Biblical Hebrew—not Sam’s translations or interpretations.

All I’ll be doing is ‘joining the dots.’ I’ll be pointing out the relationships between these Hebrew words in their particular contexts. Hopefully I’ll help you better understand the ‘shape’ of the pieces and when you see the shape you’ll be able to fit the pieces into the picture in their proper places giving you the ‘coherent completeness’ the Bible expresses.

This is the time to step back and see how the KJV translators, Strong and Sam are interacting. How all three elements are combining to ‘join’ the dots of Biblical Hebrew and give you the ‘meaning’ of what the Author had/s in mind.

KJV translators give us the various translations of a Hebrew word.
Strong compiles a list of these various translations of the same Hebrew word and points out the root on which the Hebrew word and other related Hebrew words are built.
Sam is simply putting the translations, roots and contexts in perspective.

Notice what Sam is not doing: He’s neither translating nor giving you meanings of Hebrew roots. He is simply taking what the translators and Strong did and ‘putting the puzzle pieces together.’

Let me add another point here. The KJV translators, Strong and Sam had NOTHING to do with the ORIGIN of the ORIGINAL TEXT. The translators, Strong and Sam did neither write nor edit anything–not one tittle nor one dot–to do with the original Biblical Hebrew text. All they are doing is making available tools (that’s what a: translation, concordance, course) to help you better understand the meaning of the Bible–the original Hebrew text. But, YOU have got to put it ALL TOGETHER. You can’t just use one or two of these tools, you need a complete toolkit.

I will conclude this interlude with the reminder that this series I’m writing is entitled ‘The Explanation’ WITH Sam Kneller–not BY Sam Kneller. I am NOT the author of The Explanation! The Explanation was written way before the translators, Strong and Sam Kneller. I’m just a guide to help you grasp its meaning. This is the whole concept of real ‘theology’–focusing on what God is saying. Not on human interpretations of God.

To be complete let’s be right up front. The result is a different meaning of the Bible. This will give you a different learning experience. It will open your eyes to points you’ve never seen before in the Bible.

Back to our two verses in Genesis based on the Hebrew root ‘arm.’ What’s going on here?

Adam and Eve’s physical nakedness (1st meaning of ‘aram’ – 6174) is clearly not scandalous in this context they were not ashamed; in addition, they were clearheaded and had ‘mental’ prudence (2nd meaning of ‘aram’ – 6175), discretion and wisdom, which we all wish to possess. Does this mental description fit with the context? Yes, this is a picture of their state of mind following the Sabbath WITH God in the Garden of Eden. Remember, this was a time for God to explain to Adam and Eve (‘to do’… to work with and MAKE them by sharing the wisdom to know how to live properly) what their life’s purpose was, and how they should go about it.

This blog post is an excerpt from chapter 6.2 of the book Origin of the Universe

Further Study

Reading the Strong’s Concordance entries 6191, 6193 and 6195 begins to reveal some interesting insight. They all have the same root ‘aram’ from 6191.
Go to UnlockBibleMeaning.com do a word search for ‘naked’, click on 6191, hover your mouse just under the KJV translations and you’ll see a link previous 5 | next 5, click on next 5 to see 6193, 6195 etc.

Notice 6195 is translated as both guile and wisdom. I’ve color coded them to highlight what Strong points out-and is important to comprehend about Biblical Hebrew. The SAME Biblical Hebrew word can have opposite meanings: Both negative and positive. This is the 2nd key I pointed out to Master Biblical Hebrew and Unlock Bible Meaning.

Strong’s 6191 refers to ‘cunning’ whereas 6195 has both ‘trickery’ and (in a good sense) ‘discretion’. The same Hebrew root, in different contexts, means one thing and its opposite—associating a notion of physical nakedness with a notion of prudence, discretion and wisdom. The same word to describe Adam and Eve and the Serpent in the Garden of Eden. How unusual yet how critical to comprehension of Bible meaning. We would not be able to do this with both the help of the various translations of the KJV translators and the compilation and analysis of Dr. Strong.

H6193. עֹרֶם ʻôrem o’-rem; from H6191 (עָרַם); a stratagem:

KJV – craftiness.
H6195. עׇרְמָה ʻormâh or-maw’; feminine of H6193 (עֹרֶם); trickery; or (in a good sense) discretion:

KJV – guile, prudence, subtilty, wilily, wisdom.

2. Use Strong’s Concordance to locate these other Hebrew words for ‘naked’ (5783 [although 2 of the 3 root letter ‘a,r’ are present] and 6544) and ‘subtle’ (2450 and 5341).

Go to UnlockBibleMeaning.com and do a word search for ‘naked’.
Switch to ‘Strong’s Concordance’ (drop-down box on the right side of your screen)
The word ‘naked’ will be highlighted in red and followed by the number of the Strong’s reference.
You’ll see a few with numbers: 5783 and 6544
Click and check the Hebrew roots.  You’ll see they are different from 6191.

The Author could’ve used one of these words in place of ‘aram’ (6191) but He didn’t.

Do the same study with ‘subtil’. This is the King James old English spelling of ‘subtle.’

Now you’re beginning to use the Bible tools and see for yourself how Hebrew roots have a particular importance and especially how DIFFERENT Hebrew roots have been translated by the SAME English word.

A Healthy Body is the Quest of all Humans – How are We Doing?

Each human being wishes for a healthy body. We spend billions on technology and personal care. Are we making our dream come true?
A healthy body - A legitimate human universal desire. How can we best achieve that goal?

A healthy body – A legitimate human universal desire. How can we best achieve that goal?

Images of a healthy body, both female and male adorn our daily media. They’re very often picture-perfect on the outside but how are we treating our human bodies?

(Audit of the Universe, chapter 8.1)

“You saw during our inventory of Fauna that the animal kingdom is one of specialists,” Galacti remarks “Cheetahs run faster than men. Monkeys climb higher. Tortoises live longer. Yet human bodies are still very impressive.”

We walk to Venice with the help of our traveling tour guide, to the Gallerie dell’Accademia where we view the muscled, graceful image of DaVinci’s Vitrupian Man, the epitome of a healthy body. “Consider your eyes: not as sharp as a cat’s, nor far-seeing as an eagle’s, but only your eyes can decipher writing. Your hands are not as strong as a gorilla’s, but unique on the earth in their capacity for fine manipulation. An elephant’s legs are stronger, but only yours can dance. Your bodies are wonderful machines, worthy of care and respect.”

I begin to shrug off the compliment, as we humans so often do, but am struck by the complexity of structure and engineering behind even such a trivial movement. Galacti is right.

“Of all things in the universe,” he continues, “human bodies are truly the extension of the human mind. You are their master, in control of how you treat it and how healthy you keep it, and to what ends you apply its impressive potential. I must ask now how you steward your body. How well do you care for it, both as an individual in charge of a healthy body, and as an entire race caring for all humans in existence?”

Our Body of Knowledge

We tend to spend our money on what we most value, so the $264 billion spent annually on health research worldwide seems to say that we humans do respect and value our bodies. This money goes toward new ways to extend life and health, and to cure serious illnesses, as well as researching new technologies that help us accomplish the same goals.

As we audit the pros and cons of how each of us treats our healthy body, let’s see where we are in 2018. Are the methods we’re using to treat ourselves to remain vigorous and strong regressing, stable or improving? How is our general health doing?

Antibiotics

Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin in 1928, and we put the first medical antibiotic based on that discovery to work in the middle of World War 2. Antibiotics kill bacterial infections which could become health-and-life threatening like pneumonia, pink eye and blood poisoning. Prior to the broad use of antibiotics, the three leading causes of human death were pneumonia, tuberculosis and diarrhea dehydration from illnesses like dysentery or cholera. All of these illnesses are cured by appropriate use of antibiotics, and all have disappeared from the top causes of death in developed and practically all nations.

Antibiotic use does have a problematic side. Doctors often over-prescribe them, and patients tend to use them incorrectly. This has led to a trend toward antibiotic resistance among bacteria. Strains of tuberculosis and staphylococci that are immune to many antibiotics are appearing in even the most advanced hospitals and countries. Doctors fear a new age of epidemics stemming from the development of “superbugs” that our pharmaceutical weapons can’t harm.

Vaccines

Salk’s polio vaccine ushered in another life-saving trend when he was able to prevent polio throughout the developed world. From that beginning, we have developed vaccines to prevent more than 20 previously common illnesses. Rates of childhood and adult infection for these illnesses have dropped dramatically since vaccination became a widespread practice, and some diseases — notably smallpox, diphtheria and polio — are all but extinct. That means a more healthy body for many more people.

Vaccinations, like antibiotics, are not without their disadvantages. Many doses inflict side effects including fever, soreness, and mild symptoms similar to the disease they are intended to prevent. About one child in a million is severely allergic to vaccines, and since vaccinations happen early in life, a serious reaction is often the first sign doctors and families have of such an allergy.

Technologies for Treatment

Our history of medical technology dates back surprisingly far in time. Archaeologists have found evidence of skin grafts, false teeth and even brain surgery from as early as the 3rd century BC.

Many of our modern medical wonders are simply improvements on existing devices and techniques. We build more accurate x-rays and sharper scalpels every year, but a few specimens of medical technology have opened wider potential. They won’t create a healthy body, but they will go a long way to helping health.

Printable Organs are a combination of stem cell technology with the 3-D printing that has already brought us printable tools and printable pizza. By using stem cells from a patient as a model, scientist first printed a human kidney in 2011. Since then, human testing is still in progress for both more complex organs and the process by which those organs can be implanted into human patients.Though still limited because even the best 3-D printers can’t yet produce objects as small as human capillaries — a vital element in the most important organs — researchers hope to be able to produce printed, on-demand, 100% compatible organs by 2020.
The Skin Gun works similarly to printable organs, spraying skin cells grown from stem cells onto a burned area and reducing recovery time from weeks to only a few days. Like printable organs, this technology is still in the prototyping stage, but represents a hopeful development for treatment of one of the most painful, infection-prone and lengthy injuries the human body can endure.
Vasalgel is a modern male contraceptive that fills a small part of the vasa differentia with a gel that causes the sperm cell membrane to rupture. This advance began as a water treatment technique, but is now undergoing human testing in India and primate testing in western countries. A reliable male contraceptive that lasts ten years and is quickly reversible could have wide-reaching effects on human health in overpopulated areas.
Bionics What was science fiction as recently as the 1990s is now rapidly becoming medical fact. Over the past three years, multiple successful tests have allowed humans to control advanced prosthetic limbs using only mental commands, just as they would a natural limb. More amazingly, those limbs do not have to be attached to the test subject’s body but rather controlled by wireless signal from a transmitter hooked into the patient’s nervous system.
Medical Robotics allows for medical treatment with less error and more precision than humans are capable of. As of 2014, robots have been prototyped to draw blood, manage telepresence for international experts or shut-in patients and assist in a variety of nursing functions, but perhaps the most impactful robots will be the mobile communication robots like the Vasteras Giraff and the IRobot InTouch Health. These telepresence robots allow shut-in patients and practitioners in remote areas to communicate with healthcare professionals from nurses to doctors to counselors in real time. This means both your grandmother at home alone and a child in a developing nation could receive the same level of health care as they might receive in a major medical center.

With regard to technology and scientific progress there have been tremendous strides over the past few decades to better care for and have a healthy body. There are drawbacks and the question is, will we overcome them?

The Serpent in the Bible – Is it Reality or some Fairytale Created by and Foisted on Humans?

The serpent in the Bible is presented as the Devil. How true is this idea? Can one evil invisible being really be responsible of all the wrongs on Earth?
Serpent in the Bible-Reality of Rubbish. Whether you believe it or think it's a fairytale, it's worth knowing what the Biblical Hebrew has to say.

Serpent in the Bible-Reality of Rubbish. Whether you believe it or think it’s a fairytale, it’s worth knowing what the Biblical Hebrew has to say.

Before we discuss the Serpent in the Bible, let’s recap our last episode, we’ve expounded God’s goal, represented by the 7th day of creation week, as one of the key pieces around which other pieces fall into place and the framework into which the numerous pieces fit. There are other master puzzle pieces which most readers are fully aware of, but which, like the Sabbath, have been so misrepresented as to have been wrenched from their proper positions in the puzzle and twisted into misshapen, unrecognizable blobs of misinformation.

(Origin of the Universe, chapter 6.1)

We have already turned some of those pieces—like the role of the ‘mind’ (Audit of the Universe chapter 9 coming) and the ‘family’ (Audit of the Universe chapter 12 coming)—right side up in Inventory and Audit. In due time we’ll take off more of their rough edges and fit them into their rightful positions. Right now we are seeing the underpinnings, the foundation of what and why things are happening on Earth as they are.

Once you begin to get a ‘general outline’ of the mainstays of the overall picture of The Explanation many details will come more clearly into focus. For now, let’s pursue the Serpent in the Bible and his goal…not literally, of course, as you’ll see in due course!

For now, let’s ask the audience, ‘Why do we have such a messy Earth?

Here’s a clue: I just wrote that the Sabbath and other master pieces had been ‘wrenched from their proper positions in the puzzle and twisted into misshapen, unrecognizable blobs of misinformation’.

Galacti has downright negative feelings about this statement. This is a very serious accusation. On his vaguely human features, Galacti has an expression of puzzlement. Can I truly be saying that there are certain aspects of living of which the average person as well as scientists, philosophers, government and religious leaders are ignorant? How dare I say this is a worldwide phenomenon?

‘Can that be?’ Galacti isn’t sure whom he is speaking to. He’s avoiding me for the moment. ‘With investigative detectives and reporters, with the best inquisitive minds digging up the dirt in-depth behind the scenes and set to the task of revealing truth, printing the most pertinent headlines, how can the author state that in actual fact we’re propounding ‘unrecognizable blobs of misinformation’? That’s some bad hat, Harry!’ Galacti quotes a line from the end credits of the TV show ‘House’ and the film ‘Jaws’.

Let’s take a moment to explain, since—for this journey we have all the time in the world.

We’ve already touched on this sombre point when presenting the personage, the Serpent in the Bible with his subtle nature misquoting God’s words, taking them out of context. He beguiles. He uses subterfuges to give Eve and Adam the ego boost to believe they possess the ability to gather all knowledge, to understand all the information and then handle all dilemmas of and by themselves. He molds their minds to his fatally distorted point of view. I didn’t choose the adverb ‘fatally’ without reason. The Serpent’s way is fatal, it leads to the same result as eating of the Tree of Good and Evil: death.

The Serpent’s goal is simple. It is the opposite of God who wants humanity WITH Him. The Serpent in the Bible has one and only one objective in mind: Stop humans from being WITH God, to separate humanity from their Creator, to erect a barrier between God and humankind.

The Serpent in the Bible is ready to pull out all stops to attain his purpose. We will see many of the subterfuge methods he uses, camouflage, smokescreens, facades, you name it, he’s mastered that manoeuvre and transformed it into a formidable arm against humankind.

At this point some readers are thinking, ‘Sam’s lost it.’ First of all, this talk about a ‘serpent-devil’ is a lot of unproven hogwash. And to think there’s some invisible evil force out there influencing mankind is at least laughable and at most the biggest fairytale ever perpetrated on humankind. Well, if you feel that way, OK, just take it as some legendary make-believe cartoon to sell books.

I just would like to remind you that the ‘Serpent’ is clearly mentioned in the Bible–as is God–and for now I’m just explaining what the Bible says. I’m not asking you to change your beliefs no matter what they are. You started reading this because you want a better understanding of the Bible. You just want to see what that book says in its original language, Biblical Hebrew.

Even Galacti is beginning to think I’m over-exaggerating the hatred the Serpent has for mankind. If it were so rampant, so vile, despicable and foul, surely we roving investigative reporters, along with the combined brains on our planet, would’ve gotten some insight into the character of things. Could the Serpent have mastered the art of exploitation, making bad appear good, enticing us to delude ourselves?

Did the Serpent reach his goal with Adam and Eve?  The Serpent is not just a cartoon villain. There’s a method and even a ‘human’ motive. He knew what would happen the moment Adam and Eve ate of the Tree of Good and Evil. He desired a specific outcome, and he got it.

After eating of the Tree of Good and Evil, Adam and Eve then tried to hide from God in His garden (Gen 3:8). The couple somehow reasoned that by concealing themselves behind some rocks or trees they could WITHDRAW from God’s presence—hiding in their room with the door closed, as it were. They tried to flee the scene, not the other way round. God was still in the Garden, but humans cut contact with his Creator. God didn’t just go off by Himself and abandon them. They hid out from Him. This is what the Serpent wanted from the beginning.

We realize that God did put Adam and Eve out of the Garden and He even put guards at the entrance to stop humans coming back. On the other hand, the Serpent in the Bible pulled off his coup. Mankind was ousted from God’s garden. The Serpent scores.

God is boring, or so the Serpent says onstage. God is a bully and an authoritarian, and why does humanity have to do what He says anyway? Now that he’s been partially exposed, the Serpent resorts to character assassination, pointing out that God couldn’t even keep Adam and Eve in the most perfect place on earth.

God is a bully and an authoritarian, why does humanity have to follow Him anyway? The Serpent resorts to character assassination: God couldn’t even keep Adam and Eve in the most perfect place on earth.

A Human Being–What Material and Immaterial Components Constitute Humans?

Each human being is composed of physical elements like Carbon and Oxygen but are there others that are not in the Periodic Table of Elements?
What is a human being? Just skin and bones? Or much more ... what else is added?

What is a human being? Just skin and bones? Or much more … what else is added?

Answering the very philosophical and elusive question: What is a Human Being? We’ve given renowned philosophers the chance to give their insights about human life: Civilization, language, abstract thought, morals, ethics, perfectability, technology and analysis.

(Audit of the Universe, chapter 7.3)

We’ve given the British Museum the chance to tell us about humankind’s skeletal differences: Bipedalism, big brains, similar sized sexes, childhood and a precision grip.

To which I’ve added a versatile and non-exhaustive list of Museums which showcase a vast array of human being’s accomplishments. Including one called the Imaginarium … dedicated to human Imagination. In fact there are numerous Imaginariums devoted to  cultivating and stimulating the imagination to forward the goals of commerce, science, recreation, as well as spiritual and artistic endeavors.

When you get down to the common denominator of all these references to life of animals and humans we could talk about body (British Museum’s skeletal parts), the brain which runs and coordinates all the body functions including the main ones: Breathing and blood flow to oxygenate and feed the body. Frankly, this description can be applied to both animal and human life. Yes, when it comes to what I’ll call ‘physical life’ we’re all the same.

Animals and humans have skeletal parts, a brain, breathing and blood flow systems. This When it comes to what I'll call 'physical life' we're all the same.
Click To Tweet

But when it comes to a human being the above definition lacks an essential component without which we can’t add the adjective: human. That is the all-important ‘mind.’ Animals exhibit certain functions that we might equate with mind and some scientists and others would say that this is the beginning of their development of mind.

Some could debate this for the rest of their lives. I have one question for them: When will any animal, or group of animals, build a museum? or just a room in a museum? or just one exhibit in a museum? Animals are not even close and never will be. We have a term to refer to this extra-physical activity of animals: Instinct. As defined by the dictionary: An innate, typically fixed pattern of behavior in animals in response to certain stimuli. Notice the ‘typically fixed pattern.’ That’s not to say animals can’t take initiative and make decisions, they can. I discussed this in Inventory of the Universe in the chapter about fauna. But the point is there are light-years between animal instinct and human mind.

My conclusion on this matter is that the underlying and all-encompassing uniqueness of humankind is their mind. Each and every human being that has walked the face of this Earth has been and is equipped with a mind. Chapter 9 of Inventory of the Universe was devoted in part to the mind of man as will be chapter 9 of Audit of the Universe. We’ll delve deeply into this subject without which it is impossible to understand how to establish peace and prosperity on Earth.

Think about this. We talk about ‘time space continuum’ That includes everything (animate and inanimate) in the space around us, in front and back (length), beside us on the left and right (width) and above and below us (height).  Time represents the seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, years… we have in the past, present and future.

ONLY HUMANKIND can use and impact space and time. Animals cannot retain the notion of time and space. Yes, they live in the present, yes they migrate over vast distances (space), in season (time), according to an instinctive ritual. But they do not even begin to impact time and space other than with their immediate footprint and eating habits. In the animal world nothing changes, animal life goes on, day in day out. that is the typically fixed pattern of instinct.

But, from one day to the next (time) men, women, children transform, each of our worlds (space) is reshaped, hopefully for the better, because humankind moves on. Each human being constructs and shapes themselves and we’re a little different each day.

In the animal world nothing changes life follows a pattern of instinct. They leave an impact from their immediate footprint and eating habits. But, from one day to the next (time) men, women, children transform, each of our worlds…
Click To Tweet

We move on because of one element: the mind with which each one of us is equipped. Returning to the Imaginarium museum, only human beings can form images and ideas in their heads and minds without input from their eyes and ears. Our human ‘senses’ of smell, touch etc can conjure up images, concepts, solutions out of the blue, as we say. Consider young children with no toys, they can pick up anything and ‘make-believe.’ That’s the power of humans, that’s the essence of being human.

I submit to you that the central characteristic and basis for the definition of what HUMAN LIFE and what a HUMAN BEING IS is the POSSESSION of the MIND. In chapter 9 of Audit of the Universe we will discuss the state of an individual’s mind. I’ll just mention here, what you know, that a mind can be distorted or sick in which case we’d say a person isn’t in their ‘right mind.’ My point being, they still have a ‘mind,’ it’s just not functioning properly–I will explain this situation.

I submit to you that the central characteristic and basis for the definition of what HUMAN LIFE and what a HUMAN BEING IS is the POSSESSION of what we call the MIND.
Click To Tweet

In this chapter I have briefly given you my vision (that’s what the mind can accomplish) of human life and what identifies a human being–the mind. You might be thinking, ‘that’s all conjecture.’ Well, we’re just getting into the crux of this matter, there’s much more involved as you’ll see.

For now we conclude this chapter about human life. To do so we need to come back to the focus of Audit of the Universe: To evaluate the state of human life on Earth, here and now. How are we treating human life? Is it edging closer to or further from peace and prosperity?

Below you will see links to some articles about general attitude towards the value of human life. Is it held in esteem being properly cared for? Considering we only have one life here and now, is humanity treating it with respect? Acknowledging its utmost importance, some would say its sacred nature?

Special Report: A business where human bodies were butchered, packaged and sold https://buff.ly/2DotwHO I’m in the process of writing about human #life and especially our respect for it. This article deals with dead #human bodies but it does reveal a callousness when it comes to life, #death and financial gain. Somehow we’ve lost the admiration and reverence for #humanlife. Is it because of the individualistic society we live in? #theExplanation #AuditLife

We can’t ban killer robots – it’s already too late https://buff.ly/2gaxOfB #Chemical #warfare, atomic warfare, anti-personnel mines … all developed technology that (most) nations have outlawed because of their deadliness. Now come #killerrobots commanded only by their own #algorithm. They choose their own #targets and can #kill indiscriminately. Why can #human minds develop such atrocities? #theExplanation #AuditMind #AuditViolence

Fight the silencing of gun research http://buff.ly/2ro19nF Beyond the evidence that the widespread presence of #guns causes more #deaths the question is, why is there such a human fascination for weapons? #theExplanation #AuditViolence

Children bear ‘disproportionate lethal impact’ of Syrian war, say researchers https://buff.ly/2zVf7l5 It’s not just the number of #children killed. That’s horrifying in itself. But, it’s the impact of #war, fear, fleeing, #hunger on infant minds and developing lives. A generation of scarred human beings … how can you build stable #families, #cities, #nations on rubble? Can we bomb and cajole people into peace?! #theExplanation #AuditViolence

Thankfully there are also positives regarding attitude towards human life:

Models of Respect https://buff.ly/2icnzse Short and wise article. “I want to see how people are treating other #people, human being to #humanbeing,” says the author. It’s all about #relationships. And it’s part of behavior. Did you know that #behavior is the result of #humannature and #freewill? Think about it, relationships characterize #humans, it’s part of our nature. Respect may or may not be exercised by each of us planetwide–it is a free will #choice as to whether we do it or don’t do it. #theExplanation #AuditBehavior

Why Ikea’s flatpack refugee shelter won design of the year https://buff.ly/2hzVTg2 Making a difference for #refugees. Some positive news of #shelters and #dwellings that really work. #Philanthropy is alive and helping where it can. #theExplanation #AuditBehavior

Now it’s up to you. What’s your audit of planet wide human life. Are we shaping up or down? Next we take a look at the human body and how we are treating ourselves and our physical health.

God ‘to do with’ His Work–to make them on 7th Day, to take Care of His Creation

God’s intention is ‘to do’ His work ‘with’ His Creation. He started this on the 7th day and continues to care for all the descendants of Adam and Eve.

To do with every human being who will walk the face of this Earth. God’s goal is to work and care for them. Genesis 2.3

An inventor doesn’t devise something intricate and magnificent and hand it off with no further involvement and no accompanying instructions. They follow through with their invention. Similarly, the Sabbath is a day of God being with His invention. God did just that with Adam and Eve on the culminating apex day of creation doing the essential—preparing them, instructing them how to live.

(Origin of the Universe, chapter 5.4)

You can follow along by using the online Bible, the Interlinear Bible, Strong’s Concordance and the Hebrew/Greek Concordance at UnlockbibleMeaning.com

If you’ve come across this blog post for the first time then please know that it is part of a larger work. To see the entire context, which you can read online, click here.

What God had created ex nihilo was a man who was perfect but unfinished. Unfinished in the sense that he still had many lessons to learn. He was fully grown but he had to learn all about life.

Galacti’s Reflections

After deep thought, Galacti realizes that if God had ‘finished’ Adam and Eve with perfect computer-like brains and flawless decision-making that led to ideal analysis of every life situation, faultless reasoning, faultless decision-making, textbook actions, unblemished deeds and accomplishments they would have had to be programmed to ‘do only good’. They would’ve been ‘automates’ with one and only one option to follow.

But, the fact that humankind can do both good and evil, go both ways, implies that he has free will; humanity is anything but a pre-programmed disposable or replaceable contraption.

Adam and Eve have free will, as we have already seen, but before and even after they made their choice to eat of the Tree of Knowledge, they were unfinished. Much like a young adult of college age, equipped with free will, who hasn’t yet decided what professional direction their life will take. That decision, like so many life decisions, requires free will. We will see more of why humans have free will.

Adam and Eve are like adolescents in our play, and they eventually become the parents of all of humankind. From the initial 7th day God is ‘with’ our initial parents ‘to do’ them, to make, to complete their perfectly functioning but as yet, unfinished minds, working with the man and woman and the free will He gave them; leading, guiding, suggesting, telling them which way to go, what is right, what is wrong. He shows them what is the outcome of positive and negative decision-making, actions and behavior. The whole Bible revolves around this key piece of the puzzle—of God being WITH humans to do them, to help humankind become the humankind they should be.

From the initial 7th day #God is ‘with’ our initial parents ‘to do’ them, to make, to complete their perfectly functioning but as yet, unfinished #minds, working with the man and woman and the free will He gave them.

In fact, the Sabbath, the 7th day of the week, is the framework of our puzzle. We will detail these meanings later on but this seventh ultimate day—of the creation week—points to what God is going to do with all (laasot im kol in Hebrew) of humanity—in the past, now and in the immediate and distant future.

For the first time Galacti is speechless. Questions course through his mind: how can one verse sum up God’s entire plan? Can it be that simple and complex at the same time? What are the implications of all these ‘meanings’ of the three root letters of Shabbat? How can one word, three letters long, carry such significance? Why hasn’t religion revealed this—put this together? How has this master puzzle piece been so deftly clouded from understanding? Can all this be true?

Some scholars in the audience are outraged.

Let me just say at this point that context after context in the Bible reinforces the shape and meaning of the Sabbath master puzzle piece. Although some scholars may consider what I’ve done to be ‘twisting the Scripture’, I can tell you this is the goal of God—His—specific purpose. We are going to need space and time to develop this. The understanding is deep, the contexts are plentiful, the cross references are multitude, the enmeshing of biblical ideas and stories is enlightening and encouraging.

I will give you one example here: Remember in chapter 5.1 of Origin of the Universe I asked about Genesis 2: Why include verses 4-6? particularly verses 5-6 about no rain and ‘mist watering the ground’–it seems disjointed from 1-3.  But, it isn’t, it fits in neatly–you just have to understand how. Let’s come back to this point and tie it in with ‘God doing something with humanity’

Genesis 2.3-6

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

Sam’s Reflections

I will just mention here that Gen. 2.4  is clearly the start of a new thought by the author. Not only is there a change of subject but more importantly this is the first verse in the Bible where we find ‘LORD God’–until here it was Elohim, now it is ‘Yahveh Elohim.’ No details now … they will be forthcoming. Suffice to say that this ‘Yahveh Elohim’ is specifically mentioned as the One responsible for not causing the rain at this point.

In ‘Further Study‘ (at the end of the blog post) I suggested you look at Deut: 11.10-11 about ‘watering’ and where it comes from.

Deuteronomy 11.10-14

10 For the land, where you go in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from which you came out, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs:

11 But the land, where you go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinks water of the rain of heaven:

12 A land which the LORD your God cares for: the eyes of the LORD your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

13 And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently to my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your corn, and your wine, and your oil.here

I have highlighted certain passages here (and changed ‘thee’ to ‘you’ etc. for readability) : in Egypt watering the fields was via aIn Egypt the Israelites watered their crops with their foot. network of dug canals from the abundant water of the Nile river. Smaller trenches and furrows were dug alongside the fields and rows of crops. To open and close these dikes, and thus water the crops, a simple movement of the earth with their foot was necessary. In Egypt, water came easy, this is how the Hebrews had an abundance of vegetables.

This is the total opposite of the land of Canaan referred to in Deut. 11.11 … a land of hills and valleys that is watered by the RAIN of heaven–no mist, no Nile. This context shows that God gives that rain. Do you see the relationship here? God works, does, cares for humanity. This is the ongoing presence of Yahveh Elohim in earth’s affairs. According to the Bible (take it as a fairytale if you like) He is working with humanity.

I will add here that He is not working with humanity in the way most people think … but that is the story that will unfold as we continue our study in Genesis. Again, patience.

So many Bible contexts will point us directly to the meaning of Shin, Beth, Tuf—that fascinating word that appears throughout the Old Testament and in particular the book of Exodus–What God is going ‘to do with all’ (‘laasot im kol’ in Biblical Hebrew) of humanity.

We’re now turning over some of the ‘spiritual and biblical pieces’ of the puzzle. There are many of these pieces that you may or may not know of, and some are out of whack, misshapen, misrepresented. One by one we are going to examine them and give you their due meaning.

Let’s move on to other interrelated pieces. God, Man and the Serpent wait patiently on our stage to come into our narrative. We have our three main characters, and each has a goal, a program each is working through, and these goals are interwoven. The three ambitions are at loggerheads one with another, but they all work side by side to make a whole. Really, a whole lot of confusion and misunderstanding for humankind.

We have 3 main characters, #God, #Humanity and #Serpent, each has a goal, a program each is working through, and these goals are interwoven. The three ambitions are at loggerheads one with another.

I am laying the framework for these three main centers of attention in our grandiose puzzle picture so we can see how they fit and unfold separately yet simultaneously. That is what God told Eve when He said the Serpent would bruise her heel (the Devil’s goal) but she would bruise his head (Humanity’s goal)—God’s goal being the orchestration of whole to reach the ultimate Sabbath rest for humankind. There’s a complex interplay of the characters within the play God wrote.

The 3 Bible themes are: The #Serpent bruising #Eve's heel (#Devil’s goal) Eve bruising his head (Humanity's goal)—#God’s goal is the orchestration to reach the ultimate peace and prosperity for humankind. That's the #Bible story.

However, our audience demands to know more about the villain of our piece.

Further Study

Read Genesis 2.1-6 thinking about 3 points:

There’s an end of the first scene regarding the Creation
There’s the beginning of a new scene
A new character ‘Yahveh Elohim’ makes an entry onto the scene

Notice the digression discussing mist and no rain

Think about ‘digressions’ as adding to Bible meaning, trying to get a special, related point across. Rather than some absent-minded author throwing in an extraneous unrelated thought.
Relate it to Deuteronomy 11.10-14

Who is ‘Yahveh Elohim’? There are thousands of references to Him in the Old Testament … and even in the New Testament. This point is to help you realize that the addition of just one word, ‘Yahveh’ makes a difference. Again, it throws more light, not confusion, on the subject. But, we do need to take the time and think about it from God’s perspective, not our own. That’s true ‘theology.’
If you’ve read scholarly papers about the beginning of Genesis 2 you’ll know that there’s talk about 2 authors because the grammar, style and subjects change at this juncture. Indeed, analyzing the ‘physical words’ would leave us with that impression.

But, think about the number of books you’ve read, movies and TV series you’ve seen, where the opening scene lays a quick foundation and then the same author continues by giving the details of the roles of each protagonist. He gives different points of view from different perspectives.
The detective’s role it always to figure out how ALL these individual role’s fit together. It’s the synthesis of these various and even opposing eye-witness, or implicated person’s viewpoints. The detective has to figure out what, where and how each participant fits into the whole picture.

Put on your detective hat … the investigation is just beginning. How do these 2, apparently different narratives at the beginning of Genesis, 2 different pieces in the puzzle fit together perfectly? How do all the other pieces come together? That is what The Explanation is all about.

God ‘to do with’ His Work–to make them on 7th Day, to take Care His Creation

What God had created ex nihilo was a man who was perfect but unfinished. Unfinished in the sense that he still had many lessons to learn. He was fully grown but he had to learn all about life.

Galacti’s Reflections

After deep thought, Galacti realizes that if God had ‘finished’ Adam and Eve with perfect computer-like brains and flawless decision making that led to ideal analysis of every life situation, faultless reasoning, faultless decision making, textbook actions, unblemished deeds and accomplishments they would have had to be programmed to ‘do only good’.

We will see more of why humans has free will.

The whole Bible revolves around this key piece of the puzzle—of God being WITH man to do him, to help humankind become the humankind they should be.

The Essence of Being Human is Revealed by Museums Dedicated to Life Activities

Being human and the definition of human life has been an enigma from time immemorial. Can we give a definitive answer to this dilemma? Yes.
Animals being human. It's a good try but it has to be set up by humans. Humans are characterized by the possession of cognitive abilities that come from the mind.

Animals being human. It’s a good try but it has to be set up by humans. Humans are characterized by the possession of cognitive abilities that come from the mind.

I’ve been thinking and working on The Explanation Series for a a good part of my life. Some fifteen years ago I visited the evolution gallery of the British Museum.  I wanted to see how various classes of scientists defined ‘human.’ What is it that sets us apart and at the pinnacle of living creatures on Earth.

(Audit of the Universe, chapter 7.2)

First, for clarity sake, I want to elaborate what humankind has in common with animal kind:

Both have physical bodies and skeletons made of bony material. We know that some animals do not have a skeleton like jellyfish. There are exceptions to all these points.
Both have a blood circulation system to feed the cells in their bodies.
Both have an oxygen circulation system to burn the food (sugars, fatty acids) and supply the energy to their cells.

Both humans and animals have life, and if we break certain parts of the physical body both die. If we cut off blood circulation both die. If we cut off oxygen circulation both die. In these three areas–physical body, blood, oxygen–of life although the functioning (and even existence in some cases) of these major life systems can be extremely different–fish breathe oxygen underwater, humans cannot–both animals and humans are comparable.

Now let’s see the focus of the British Museum along with the Smithsonian, the Louvre and the Cairo Museums are probably the most renowned in the world and should be able to enlighten us in our quest to pierce the mystery of what being human is all about.

There are many exhibits of the physical specifics of humankind. Here is a very brief summary of these traits:

bipedalism – The ability to stand upright and walk for length periods of time. Our human skeleton is adapted from its central cranial base attachment to the spine down to its pelvis and the feet via the strength of the femur and articulation of the knees.

From head to toe humans are made to stand upright.

Big brains – Humans do not have the biggest brain (human brain about 1.5 kg), that is reserved for sperm whales at 8 kg. But humans have the biggest brain compared to their body weight.

Anthropologists indicate, ‘what caused this drastic increase in size is unclear‘ but believe this human trait allowed humankind to progress and develop more sophisticated hunting tools and strategies, social structures and eventually language.

I don’t want to dwell on these physical traits but the British Museum exposes three other differences identifying humans:

Similar sized sexes – Males were much larger and equipped with canines to fight for females.
Childhood – The ability to take care of their young after weaning.
A precision hand-grip – Manual dexterity to firmly grasp a small object between your thumb and the tips of your fingers.

All of these five physical traits contribute to set humans apart and make our species unique.

But, let’s take it a step further. If these human skeletal characteristics are important of and by themselves what is more primary is what they allow us to accomplish. Bipedalism allows us to practice sports of all types. Brains allow us to do research and mathematical calculations. Similar sized sexes allow men and women to cooperate in a more human way. Childhood is not a ‘skeletal trait’ and I’m not sure why it should be included in the British Museum list. This trait is vital for humans and I will return to it at length in chapter 12 about how humankind socializes. Precision-grip permits us to manipulate our environment in umpteen ways.

I realize what the vocation of the British Museum is: focusing on the physical traits of human beings, the morphology of skeletal remains, as revealed by archaeology, anthropology and like sciences. However, in so doing we reduce and even limit comprehension of humankind to just a physical level. But this emphasis clouds the essential.

The definition of what being human involves deserves a much more profound analysis rather than just scrutinizing material parts of dead bodies. Human life is vastly more than that. As important as these physical abilities are what is capital is what they allow humans to do and what humankind has accomplished with them.

Skeletal traits are useless without ‘something’ to supervise and administer them so the physical body knows what to do. In the last post philosophers indicated the traits of humans. What being human is all about: civilization, language, abstract thought, morals, ethics, perfectability, technology, analysis.

None of these traits can be produced by a physical body alone. These are cognitive attributes. Some people, most people would attribute these characteristics to the brain. Animals have brains but they have none of these philosopher differentiating attributes. People would say that animals have lower levels of some of these trains. Yes, much lower levels. People would add that the human brain is ‘more developed’ than the animal brain. Yes, vastly more developed. Then we can add ‘instinct’ into the equation–but there again, there still remains a huge chasm between animal instinct and the capacity of being human.

I submit to you that to bridge this vast chasm that separates being animal from being human is the ‘cognitive capacity of humans.’  As dictionary defines cognition: relating to the mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning, as contrasted with emotional and volitional processes. The seat of this mental capacity is referred to as ‘mind.’

Museums Reveal what Being Human is

Let’s stay with the theme of museums and reveal what being human is. In Inventory of the Universe chapter 10 I compared humankind and animal kind. In Audit of the Universe I will take it to a far superior level. In fact, other than bodily and skeletal comparisons there is absolutely no similitude whatsoever between humans and animals. The gulf is so great, it is insurmountable.

France, where I live, is the country of museums. No other country has a density of museums as France does. There are about 1250 officially recognized museums. But to this must be added thousands of municipal and local museums. They fall into multiple categories.

As you read through this list I’d like you to think of one point: Being Human is ALL these subjects. Being Human is ALL these activitiesBeing Human is all this creation. Being Human is all these accomplishments. Human Life Human Life is ALL the stories told by these museums.

Being Human is a never-ending story in itself.

There’s definitely something innate about being human that sets humankind apart in a superior way.

It’s the capacity of the human brain and mind. Only humankind, of all the creatures on earth, are dreamers and thinkers and poets as witnessed by all the museum collections. Humankind lives light years beyond its skeletal and biological existence and concerns itself with a mental, civil, culture even spiritual, life. This is why humans rule  planet Earth as the highest expression of life.

Did you notice the ‘Imaginarium’ in the list of museums? Being human, each human person who has walked the face of this Earth is innately equipped with imagination. The ability to come up with new concepts about every imaginable and even unimaginable subject–like creating a museum dedicated to ‘imagination!’ That’s the epitome of mind, the characteristic of being human.

Wow, it makes you stop and think.

God Pursued His Work Resting with Adam and Eve Whom He Created to Make

Resting with Adam and Eve on the 7th day of creation week was essential for God to continue His work
Genesis 2.3 God rested FROM/WITH all his work AND MADE/TO MAKE. Does this additional valid translation make a difference and why?

Genesis 2.3 God rested FROM/WITH all his work AND MADE/TO MAKE. Does this additional valid translation make a difference and why?

Before I answer the point from last week’s post about what God was ‘making’ or ‘doing’ on the seventh day, let me ask another question: with what, with whom is He ‘doing something’? Remember, the creation was ‘finished’ so what is still in the works. If God continues to ‘make or do’ something , on what, with what is He exercising His skills?

Being a pivotal piece of the puzzle we need to look at the various angles to make sure we assemble it in its rightful place in the puzzle. I’m going to add an element to the comprehension of this verse supported by Hebrew vocabulary, biblical reasoning (This is Godly theology not human theology) and especially corroborative contexts. Indeed, ‘what God is working with,’ making and doing is supported by hundreds of other contexts, in fact, the core of the whole Bible—both Old and New Testaments. It is a fundamental principle of the entire story we’re about to unfold. And unfortunately it is not widely understood.

(Origin of the Universe, chapter 5.3)

Let’s look into just one simple but meaningful word which rounds off the edges of this translation In Gen 2.3:

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

The two words ‘from all‘ come from one Hebrew word ‘mikol’ which is a combined form of 2 words min (4480-from) and kol (3605-all). How else has ‘min’ been translated? We return to Strong’s:

OT:4480 min (min); or minniy (min-nee’); or minney (constructive plural) (min-nay’); (Isa 30:11); for OT:4482; properly, a part of; hence (prepositionally), from or out of in many senses (as follows):

KJV – above, after, among, at, because of, by (reason of), from (among), in, neither, nor, (out) of, over, since, then, through, whether, with.

OT:3605 kol (kole); summarized by ‘properly, the whole; hence, all, any or every’

Notice, the last entry of 4480 above (these entries are in alphabetical order) after the KJV: one translation of min is with—granted, not often translated this way—but it can definitely have this meaning as seen in Gen 25:30: ‘And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray you, with (min – 4480) that same red pottage…’

Please use the Bible tool at UnlockBibleMeaning.com to verify Gen 2.3 and the Hebrew, via the Interlinear Bible for ‘from all.’ I am NOT saying that this translation ‘from all’ is incorrect. What I am saying is that ‘mikol’ can ALSO be translated ‘with all.’ And when you do a Bible study, both these terms are correct in context. It gives a fuller meaning.

I realize this ‘manipulation’ of Biblical Hebrew might feel, look and sound strange if not downright far-fetched to you. But, I remind you, it is the KJV translators that have given this single Hebrew word ‘min’ multiple meanings, not James Strong or Sam Kneller. All Strong did was compile all the translations in the Bible for ‘min’ and all I’m doing is invoking one of these translations (‘with’) from Strong’s compilation.

We already saw, last week, that ‘shevet’ is translated: rested, cease, sit down … among others. As I’ve said, each Hebrew word tells a story. This includes ‘shevet’ and ‘min.’ Yes, this is a new concept for you and is maybe difficult to digest. So, just keep it in mind for now … if you can’t swallow it yet.

Let’s look at this supplemental approach to Gen 2.3, ‘… he (God) had rested with all his work which God created and made,’ from an additional angle by considering what I call corroborative contexts. These are Bible verses elsewhere in this voluminous book that support the idea ‘God rested WITH all His work.’

Here is the quickest and simplest biblical context with which practically all Bible readers would immediately identify: Emmanuel = God WITH us (Matthew 1.23). Even one of the names of God sums up what His goal is: To be ‘with’ His creation, ‘with’ His work, with Adam and Eve. Many other texts relay this basic desire of God (see Further Study below).

Here is the simplest biblical corroborative context to backup 'God rested WITH all' in Gen 2.3. #Emmanuel = #God WITH us (Matthew 1.23). One of God's names sums up what His goal is: To be WITH His #creation, WITH His work.

To my knowledge no Biblical translation of Gen 2.3 captures this concept of God doing something with His creation.

Am I saying that the various translations of this and other texts are incorrect? To the contrary, the scholarly translators have gone to great lengths to stay as close to the original meaning as possible but, as was pointed out in the chapter about the Hebrew language and vocabulary, a word can have multiple meanings, even opposite meanings (see point 3 of Further Study below)—depending on context. Context is king and context is not just the verse or chapter. Each puzzle piece—or word—must fit together with the hundreds of other pieces—words and context—in the puzzle. Each piece—each word—points to the whole: The complete picture.

In this verse which states God is WITH His work, God is gently reminding us that He is still onstage.

He has just spent six days configuring an exquisite planet Earth, the culmination of those six days is the creation of man. He could have placed Adam and Eve in any geographical location on the planet, and they would’ve been in sumptuous surroundings. But He didn’t. Instead, God goes to the pains—on the 6th day—of ‘planting a Garden’—a unique garden—His very own Garden on Earth, with a couple of exceptional Trees. In the entirety of Earth there is nothing similar to this Garden; it’s very distinctive. As the ‘piece de resistance,’ in this particular Garden He places the dustpeople—Adam and Eve.

Two soil people in His personal Garden of God. This is even more extraordinary than a commoner being summoned to an event like Prince William’s and the Royal Princess Catherine’s late-night wedding reception party on the landscaped grounds of Buckingham Palace. Why such an honor for a couple of such humble origins?

Why God wants Adam and Eve in the Garden with Him

Talk about a fairytale beginning to rival the royal newlyweds’ romance! We have the first 7th day, the Sabbath, with God desiring to be with Adam and Eve in the idyllic setting of the Garden of Eden, to do (laasot) something with (min) this first couple. If you were a couple, invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen and the Royal Prince and Princess, wouldn’t you want to know what to do in their presence? That’s exactly what God had to do with Adam and Eve–explain to them the basics.

God’s role was to work with Adam and Eve, to teach them, to elaborate to them what they were doing there with Him in the first place. Since you know the rest of this episode (what happened to Adam and Eve) I will add: To teach how to remain with God in the Garden–what their conduct should be: ‘You shall not eat…’ A commoner invited to the Buckingham Palace Gardens knows there’s an explicit etiquette to be followed. That etiquette is described to them in the same fashion that God explains how this new couple was to go about their present lives in His presence. Imagine improper etiquette in Buckingham Palace–do you think your presence there would continue if you took something that was forbidden?

Every individual and couple needs instruction on how to conduct themselves although few receive such instruction, as we’ve discussed in Audit of the Universe in the chapters devoted to Individuals and Families (coming soon). Adam and Eve were no different. God’s goal was to be with the couple to assist in their preparation for the days and years to come, their lives ahead. There was plenty to do for God, He expounded details of not eating from the Tree of Good and Evil and rather partaking of the Tree of Life—He gave them His own instruction manual for this complex creation. Put another way, the couple had all the operating systems installed but no programs to run them. God was with Adam and Eve to inaugurate the working program. That’s what He had to do (laasot) with (min) Adam and Eve on that first 7th day.

Further Study

As we start this incursion into the Biblical Hebrew of the Bible, it behooves you to take the time to verify what I’m offering you here. Don’t take my word for it. Look for yourself.

Emmanuel–‘God with us.’ There are hundreds of contexts in both the OT and NT to corroborate this. Find just a few of them … they do not necessarily include the word ‘with.’ They are Bible stories that point out the principle that God always cares about and for His creation and, in particular, humankind. Think about how this is a main theme … if not the key theme of the Bible.

Realize that God is not just interested in being with a part or a single group of His creation. God wants to be with ALL His creation, every single human being that has ever walked the face of the Earth. In a day and age when globalization is a reality, we need to consider that God is a global God, not a local, isolationist, private, elitist God. His plan is to be WITH ALL His creation. But, as I wrote above it’s one teaspoonful at a time … until the bulldozer scoop is full. That’s what the Bible story is about.

Study the word ‘work’ (melach – 4399 which is related to 4397) used 3 times in Gen 2.2-3. This word points to a specific aspect of God’s creation and it is enlightening.

Use the study tools at UnlockBibleMeaning.com to look up its more complete meaning. ‘Work’ is very general and impersonal. Whereas the Biblical Hebrew original has a much more specific personal flavor and corroborates the point of ‘God with us.’

If you really want to get into the essence of what is going on with ‘creation week,’ then also study the words ‘finished’ and ‘ended’ as in God ‘ended’ His work in Gen 2.1-2.

Both ‘finished and ‘ended’ come from one Hebrew word: ‘chol’ or ‘kala,’ 3615 in Strong. Here’s just a part of how the JKV translators rendered this Hebrew word: accomplish, cease, consume (away), determine, destroy (utterly), be (when… were) done, (be an) end (of), expire, (cause to) fail, faint, finish, fulfill … I have taken the liberty of color coding this because it’ll immediately jump out at you that ‘destroy and fail’ appear to be the opposite of ‘finish and end’. Or, at least negative endings whereas the 7 day creation week has a very positive ending.

This is the second principles of 7 Keys to Understanding Biblical Hebrew: The same Hebrew word having ‘opposite’ (negative / positive) meanings. My intention here is not to get you more mixed up! But, to get you thinking. Realize that these Biblical Hebrew words–say a lot more than our English, French, German or whatever vocabulary. The Biblical Hebrew of the Bible encases MUCH MORE than you thought compared to a simple reading of words in your native language.

I have no intention of explaining these positive/negative translations of ‘finished/ended – destroy/fail’ right now. Suffice to say that these translation are correct … and ADD meaning to this Genesis account. In due time I will explain this … it’s all part of digging for Bible meaning. We cannot take bulldozer scoops, we have to take it a teaspoonful at a time and even then, it might be too much. Will you stay with me? That’s why I’ve written Origin of the Universe. We’re just beginning our journey into The Explanation. And it is the most exciting journey you’ll ever take.
