Best of 2013 Nominations: GAME
Those of you who've been following me for a while know that I have no particularly strong feelings about awards, prizes, and lists. So this is not a blog post begging you to vote for me...or even suggesting it!
If you look at the list of nominees, there are some damn fine books represented. You could almost close your eyes and click at random and feel that you'd voted for a worthy title.
If you enjoy voting in such contests, go for it! Have fun with it!

Memory Monday: Hilarity, 1950s Style
Back in the day, comic book used to have one or two text pages. Something about the presence of text pages reclassifying them for a better postal rate or something like that. I dunno. Anyway, paging through my copy of Adventure Comics #247 the other day, I stumbled upon this forgotten gem of Eisenhower-era hilarity…
Yeah, it ain’t exactly Showtime at the Apollo, is it? Just be glad you were born when you were!

This Week in Rejection!: DC Comics
I had submitted something or other to DC at some point and was told that they couldn’t accept it because the character in question was already reserved for someone else’s use. Then I submitted something and was told that the character in question wasn’t “cool” enough.
So, I did something sort of cheeky and I’m surprised it worked at all — I sent in a list of characters I was interested in and said, basically, “Look, it would save us both a lot of time (and me a lot paper and stamps) if you would just check off the characters that are both considered ‘cool’ at the moment and are also unreserved for someone else’s use.”
In retrospect, it wasn’t the slickest move. But as you can see in the personal note jotted below…it worked.
To a degree. Yeah, I got my list, but twenty years later, twelve novels, and a New York Times bestseller…and I still haven’t gotten to write anything for DC Comics.
No, no, I’m OK — I just have something in my eye, is all.

Interview: Entertainment Weekly (Sort Of)
OK, so it’s not actually an interview with yours truly. It’s an interview with my co-author on the upcoming After the Red Rain, Peter Facinelli! See what he has to say about our mysterious new project, including some very nice words about me, a tiny hint about the book, and the secret of his beta readers!
