Will A New Cover Help?
Despite having 11, all 5-star ratings in the rainforest, my serious book
The Last Day of June
wasn't selling well. A friend suggested that perhaps the cover wasn't helping. He suggested that it failed to capture the story, a lot of which takes place against World War 2.
So I revised the existing cover to try and capture the key scene ... here it is.

After The Event
A new title from me
Huw Williams is just ten years old when the deep-space object hurtling in the general direction of Earth was first detected.
By the time he is twelve, probes have been launched to learn more about the object, that was predicted to pass close to the planet. Two of these probes collide and crash into the rock, changing its course, ever so slightly. It should just miss our planet but it is going to be a close call!
There was still a good chance the massive chunk of rock might not impact on Earth. However, its passing is going to have a huge impact on Huw's life!

The Boy on a Baker's Bike
It is 1979, Gary eighteen and single. He wants to become a teacher of French; he is looking for a job in France.
When he was fourteen, he had been on the school exchange trip to Rheims. He is still in touch with his student host, Marcel.
With summer coming he writes to Marcel to see if his penfriend can suggest anything. Joelle, his host older sister gets Gary fixed up to work in a holiday centre with Marcel and herself.
Gary has dreamt of Joelle for four years, of course he is going.
Marcel hasn’t been completely honest about the ‘holiday centre.’ Gary may have packed to much clothing.
Day one is a little of an eye opener. But then he has found an old bike and … Joelle is there too!

Why would a young man take the desperate step of leaving his comfortable home in the South of England and take a job in the Arctic wilderness?
What was the attraction of a job located closer to Murmansk than any other city?
MONEY!
He was leaving the Britain of the 1970s. A place where it wasn’t just having money or even how much money that mattered.
Exchange Controls meant that money in the right place had a value of its own!
How could a young man sustain himself in a dark, freezing, hellhole of a place?
What stops him from walking away at the end of a shift?
DREAMS!
Warmth! Lying on a beach in sun a beer in his hand, watching happy people frolicking in the surf.
Of being warm enough to be able to step outside without the need for multiple layers of clothing ... or any clothing at all!
