Book of the Week: Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe
EXCERPT
“I remember everything,” she whispered, her fangs lengthening.
“This?” he whispered, a large hand splaying across her lower back. Hot. Strong. Possessive. Pulling her closer until their hips brushed.
“Yes.” The word came out as a hiss.
He took her hand and laid it over his heart. The organ beat out a steady rhythm against her palm. She soaked in the heat of his skin, the strength of his chest. “And this?” he asked, his deep voice seducing her as easily as his touch.
“Yes.”
She remembered the sound of his heartbeat thundering in her ears. His pulse, visible in the strong artery in his neck. She’d wanted to taste his blood, sink her fangs into him as he entered her.
She still wanted that.
He cupped her cheek with his other hand and dipped his head. The light from a nearby lamppost lit his eyes. Just as they had all those years ago, his irises flared, and for the briefest of seconds she thought that maybe he could see to the depth of her soul. No one, not even Valencia and certainly not Dmitri, had ever studied her so intensely.
“And this?” he murmured again, their lips less than a centimeter apart.
She smelled whiskey on his breath, one more memory of this night. All she had to do was close the distance and find out if he kissed as well as he did in her dreams.
Just like that night on the battlefield, his thumb traced her jaw line. And just like that night, desire warred with the knowledge that they were not destined to be together.
But she hadn’t come to Mystic Isle for together-forever. She’d come for hot-shout-my-name-sex. She’d come here… to come.
So this time when he glanced back and forth, staring so deeply into her eyes, gauging her response, she let her lips do the talking.
Watch for Fangs, Fur & Mistletoe to hit the rock bottom price of FREE this week. Check it out via these vendors.

The Who, What, Where, When, Why
There are currently 25 spots open on the review crew while we beta test things.
Review crew members must be on FB. (Sorry!) Selena has established a Review Crew group where announcements and assignments will be posted. In order to be invited to the group you must be a friend of Selena’s (www.facebook.com/selenablakeauthor) on FB.
How to put your name in the running.

amazon
nook
kobo
ARe
smashwords
Shelfari
Goodreads
librarything

Important: any previous reviews you’ve written for Selena’s books DO count! So if you’ve reviewed an SB book in the past, you totally get credit (and a giant thank you from Selena.)
2. Post a link to your review (where can we see it?), along with your username, to this form.
3. Sit tight. 25 folks will be randomly selected and invited to join the group on Oct. 1, 2013.
NOTE:
There’s potential for more review crew members going forward but while we’re testing out this idea we’ll start with 25. Your entry into the form above will put you into consideration for future drafts for new review crew members.
How the Review Crew Operates
When you review the designated book you’ll be invited back to review again and will be provided with Selena’s next book. If that book is read and reviewed within the designated time frame you’ll be invited back to read and review the next book and so on. For Writers: 30 Questions to ask Your Characters
When I get stuck part way through a book, I’ve found two things to get me back on track.
1. Pick up any of James Scott Bell’s writing reference books. Start reading. Give it a page or two and inspiration will strike.
2. Start asking my characters questions. Often I get stuck because I just don’t know enough about my characters. If I don’t have enough material to work with, a book gets weak, I get bored. Boredom leads to distraction.
Here’s a list of 30 questions I ask my characters. Call it a Character Interview if you will.
What did you do yesterday?
Tell me one of your fondest memories.
Tell me one of your saddest/scariest memories.
Tell me one of your most vivid childhood memories.
What is it you fear most? Why?
What is it you want the most?
Who are the most influential people in your life, and why?
How do you feel about your mother? Your father? Other members of your family?
Are you superstitious? Do you read your horoscope?
What were some of the defining moments in your life?
Do you believe in favorites? If so, what’s your favorite number? Color? Holiday? Season?
What tragedies or disappointments have you endured thus far?
What could you not live without? What is your greatest weakness?
What are your strengths?
What do you like the most/least about your appearance?
What is your home like?
How would you describe your appearance?
Do you care about what other people think about you?
Whose opinion do you value?
How do you view authority? Religion? Politics?
Describe your ideal ‘mate’.
How have your relationships progressed in the past?
Do you have any pets?
What was your biggest heartbreak?
What gestures do you use?
What speech patterns do you use? Do you swear? Are you self conscious about how you speak?
Who are your friends?
Who are your biggest enemies?
What is the biggest chip on your shoulder?
How do you feel about technology?
