Pentecost: Speaking in Tongues

The Christian world celebrates Pentecost; this is a celebration which comes fifty days after Easter. The name Pentecost is derived from the Greek word Pentecoste, which means fifty. Why St. Augustine of Canterbury is celebrated as the “Apostle of the English”

One of the most popular “St. Augustines” in the English speaking world is St. Augustine of Canterbury, often called the “Apostle of the English.” Born in the 6th century, St. Augustine was handpicked by St. Gregory the Great to be one of his missionaries in distant lands. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “A rumor had […]

Who was Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster, whose body is now the center of attention in Missouri?

A Catholic education and lifelong vocation Growing up under segregation, Mary Elizabeth was once taunted with the nickname “chocolate drops” as she ran through a white neighborhood on her way home from school, and although she also was ridiculed as the lone Catholic among Baptist and Methodist peers, she refused to harbor resentment for her […]

As artificial intelligence concerns grow, there’s hope for the future

Artificial intelligence (AI) used to be nothing more than the stuff of wildly creative science fiction.  If we did imagine such a thing, we pictured benign and helpful AI like sweet R2-D2 from Star Wars. But as time went on and AI began to be a real possibility, there were darker forebodings. For example, the […]
