My mom… not so much good with names…

My mom doesn't really like when I share her momisms here but NOT sharing them was crushing all the fun out of my life so she'll have to deal.

First, this classic from several months ago:

"Robert Pattinson. Isn't he in that movie with Reese Witherwhatever, Elephants Can't Swim?" -My mom

And then, from just now:

Mom: Doesn't Reese… *a long pause ensues in which I assume she's going to say some version of Witherspoon when she throws me a curve ball* Fillbus look good?

Me: …I'm sure I would agree...

My favorite seasonal beverage

The most wonderful time of the year is when it becomes socially acceptable for me to drink eggnog flavored tea every morning again.

Eggnogg'n by Bigelow. Imagine someone mixed black tea with green tea and then mixed that with eggnog flavor and cinnamon. Then imagine that somehow that actually worked and came out tasting pretty good because it doesn't sound like it would.

Yeah… that's what's going on in my mouth right now.

I have recently realized that Bigelow makes all of my favor flavors of...

The Middle of NaNoWriMo: Halfway point pep talk

My fellow novelists, we need to take a moment. It's November 15th which is, of course, the exact middle of National Novel Writing Month.

I want to take a moment to personally congratulate each and every one of you for making it this far. Remember the curse of Week Two I talked about last week? It really separates out the people who are serious about this promise they've made to themselves to write a novel in a month and those that aren't. Week Two eats the weak.

I'm not going to sugar coat it, ...

How I listen to my extensive music collection

Songbird icon.I have a lot of music. I used to listen to the radio just about 24/7 but now we live next to this big hill that prevents us from getting a radio signal (seriously, it's really annoying). Working from home, alone, I really need to listen to music at all times in order to properly function. I download indie artists I've never heard of when they offer their albums for free. I download the free songs on Amazon. I ripped every CD in this house to MP3 (and we have a TON). I'm not picky. I just...

Meanwhile, on my other blogs… November 12, 2011

Don't read all the sites I blog for? Here's what you missed in the last week outside of HillaryDePiano.com.

A brief glimpse into my twisted
You know how autograph collectors collect cancelled checks, rental agreements, and stuff like that from stars because those papers have their signature? Every time I'm readying a batch of international shipments I think to myself, "How funny would it be if I became famous and autograph hunters had to track down all these customs forms I've

A look at my NaNoWriMo progress so far…

To your right, you'll see one of the newly launched for 2011 NaNoWriMo widgets. All of the widgets update automatically but this particular widget works in the following way:

My Month is a simple display showing overall progress and how you did on any given day. Light green and red show where you were above or below the goal for the day, bold green and red are reserved for days where you did exceptionally well or monumentally badly.

I don't know if I believe this description. I have never seen ...

Daddy Issues a "powerful piece of work," "raw with emotion" that leaves you "weak with sadness"

I had a total panic moment yesterday where I wasn't sure if I ever mailed out the ARC's of Daddy Issues to the Goodreads winners which just goes to show how frazzled I am lately. I did mail them out when I was supposed to meaning my OMG Did I Close the Garage Door??? insanity has now spread to other areas of my life which is NOT ENCOURAGING.

(Yes, Hillary, you closed the garage door. You have always closed the garage door no matter how many times you obsessively check.)

Anyway, when I went to G...

NaNoWriMo themed motivational posters & other inspirational graphics

I've been looking all over the internet and Tumblr (which is like a weird sub internet) for inspirational posters and graphics themed around NaNoWriMo to share with readers both here and over on Words Count. I found surprisingly few so I started making my own. You can see three of mine below.

Two in typical motivational poster style… [image error]

And one that's a parody of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Tolerate and Love meme which I cannot find anywhere to link to that is not horrible so here's...
