New strategy: Stopping before I feel like I need or want to stop editing or writing

Monday night, I was a woman possessed. It was a holiday and I probably wouldn't have been out of line to take a day off but instead I worked from early evening until around 3:30 AM.
This was at least some part the effect of caffeine and the rest just general Hillary insanity. I was in the zone, man. I got a ton of very boring work done for the ole day job that I've been putting off and it felt awesome. I felt very RAWR!
So I took Tuesday and devoted a small chunk of it to...

"There's no such thing as free shipping."You can set your watch by it. Every time there's a post about eBay that mentions "free shipping" somewhere in it and you get some clown who says one of the following two things: "There's no such thing as free shipping!" or the hilariously moronic "I went...
Cool down before you make drastic edits to your book

Two nights ago, when I was writing, I had a bad realization. I realized that the theme of my book that I had taped to my monitor didn't fit, oh, the entire middle of the book.
I stressed.
I was about to take out the entire middle of the book.
Instead, I forced myself to walk away from the book for two days to let my brain mull it over.
Then I stopped and hammertimed and realized that when I looked at the whole, the middle absolutely belonged in what my vision of this book was. ...

On missing goals you set for yourself. Also, I need some editing advice.

It's September 1st (or, it was 2 hours or so ago). I did not meet my goal of finishing the editing this draft of my novel by the end of August. Not happy about that.
People frequently ask me how I self-motivate and get stuff done and the answer is that, largely, I trick myself with made up challenges and goals. I build these up as important in my brain and force myself to meet them.
Of course, if I miss a goal, this becomes a huge problem because my brain sees that there is...

The Love of Three Oranges has its New Mexico premiere this week

If you're going to be in Sante Fe, New Mexico this week, my play The Love of Three Oranges is running there from August 12th through 15th. Details can be found here. This is actually the first ever performance in New Mexico so it's extra cool!
I was originally supposed to come down at the end of July and visit with the cast and crew of this production but the plans fell through at the last minute which was very sad because I was looking forward to meeting with everyone. But...
