I have written a poem.The seed of it, anyway.Something to look ateach morning untilI wake up, sudden, cold with sweatand know which words to killand which to keep.So, I have not written a poem.I have written a promise.

Noise/Birds

The builders arrive early with the noise of birds. A scratching high pitched sound wakes me up at 8am and I curse it because now I can feel the same noise in my bones. I take my medication and wait for the prescribed half an hour of no food, no drink until I can make breakfast. Finally, gloriously, I drink my first cup of coffee. No tea today.
