Across The Pond

Sweet Dream meets Christa Noordover and goes across The Pond to The Netherlands. Christa was here to interview me, which was just ridiculous because she is infinitely more interesting.  Selah’s Sweet Dream will be featured in Paints & Quarters Magazine and the article will be in DUTCH. How fun is that?Christa 004IMG_1459

Bunnies – A True Story

In the first chapter of Selah’s Sweet Dream is a scene with Grandpa’s dog, Skunk. She finds a nest of bunnies and tries to bring them to the house, dropping them along the way. Because this scene seems to have charmed readers, I wanted to share that it was based on a true story.  We had an Australian Shepherd who found a nest and gently carried them home to us. She took us to the nest, and much to the dog’s anguish, we put the babies back and brought the dog in the house until the mother bunny could move her litter. The dog would have been happy to mother them.Sarah and babies June 2014 161

shastings-selahs-cover-promo-web-lge

Our long-awaited novel is ready!   You can get your copy of Selah’s Sweet Dream from Amazon in both paperpack and Kindle formats.   There are still 5 days left to order to receive your gifts in time for Christmas!   Enjoy this sweet book that captures the hearts of young girls, their moms, and their grandma’s!

Twelve year old Selah’s quest to become an equestrian superstar is haunted by her grandmother’s past and hindered by a horse with an attitude. She dreamed of a perfect sweet horse, but life is not a dream.

SELAH (Say-la) aspires to be an equestrian superstar. That would require a horse.

HER DILEMMA: Grandpa wants nothing to do with horses.

THEN: Selah sees buzzards circling the grasslands behind Grandpa’s farm. They are stalking a horse trapped in wire and Selah is its only hope.

DANGEROUS: The horse is wild and defiant – jeopardizing Selah’s dreams.

FOILED: The legal owner searched for the horse for two years and wants it back.

BUT: Selah is confident that God will provide her heart’s desire.

MEMORIES: Grandpa shows Selah a video, from long ago, of a phenomenal equestrian. Selah declares that she wants to be like her and Grandpa explains the rider was her grandmother.

HOPE: A world renowned horse trainer offers to train SweetDream and Selah.

FOILED AGAIN: Her parents could ruin everything unless Sweet Dream’s unruly behavior ruins it first.

LOST: Selah’s opportunity to mirror the equestrian talent of her renowned grandmother evaporates when the horse causes mayhem at the trainer’s facility.

NEVER GIVE UP: Will Selah gather her courage and face up to the trainer to save her aspirations?

How it all started

On the first page of Selah’s Sweet Dream there is a scene where Selah is looking at a picture of herself as a three year old. She is leading a beautiful, twelve hundred pound, brown and white paint horse with a rope around his neck. The rope is dragging along on the ground and the horse looks like a giant enamored puppy as he follows her.

This is the picture from which the story was crafted.DSC05890

Behind the Scenes

So many things to do before a book launch!Logo with light behind cross

I started writing Selah’s Sweet Dream in August of 2013. The book is getting closer to time to being published!   A longtime artist friend is designing the cover..  You’re going to LOVE it!  She has artistic talent on loan from God.

I ordered galleys this week!  Galleys are preview copies of the manuscript that are strictly functional. It’s like printing your book at OfficeMax, only less expensive!   I’ve started sending out the first of my review copies and am humbled at the feedback!   I’ve put an incredible amount of hours into crafting this story so that it will delight my readers. I hope the Lord will consider that time well invested!

Because I’m confident you’ll love it, I’m offering a special opportunity for you to read and review a preview copy of Selah’s Sweet Dream!  Each month, one preview sample copy will be awarded. To be eligible to win, simply enter your email address in the sidebar box!
