Escaping Wonderland is now LIVE! We are so excited to finally share this collaboration with you all! We hope you enjoy Escaping Wonderland and all the other Cosmic Fairy Tales! It was an honor to be part of this collaborative series with these wonderful romance authors.

My Military Family & Support of Hero-Dogs
When Pets in Space® first came out in 2016, I was in love. Combining science fiction romance with furry companions was every bit as good as it sounds. The stories were fantastic! Then combining all of that to help Hero-Dogs.org and I simply had to be a part of it.
My dream came true with Pets in Space® 3: Embrace the Passion. Overwhelmed with joy at having the chance, I set out to write the best Pets in Space® story I could think of. And now, for the second year in a row, I get to be a part of Pets in Space® 4. I’m truly honored, because being a part of this anthology means I get to have a direct avenue to helping Hero-Dogs.org, doing what I love.
What Hero-Dogs does for veterans has a special place in my heart. Many of my family members have been or are currently in the military. My husband is in the Air Force. My great great grandfather died in the Spanish American War. Most of my grandfather’s brothers fought in World War I and their sons fought in World War II. My husband’s great grandfather fought in WW1 and his grandfather fought in WWII. His grandmother was in the Air Force along with her brother being in the Army. Many of his aunts and uncles followed their parents into military service. My nephew just retired from the Army. Helping veterans is ingrained.
We see and experience first-hand what military service means, so my husband and I support all veterans and programs to help veterans. An organization that trains service dogs to help veterans is as wonderful as it gets.

She’s with us today to share a little about the pet featured in Dark Guard, her Pets in Space® 4 story—a cyborg feline named Cat, including a special snippet.

I am so thrilled to be a part of the Pets in Space® 4 anthology – not just because it helps support a wonderful charity in hero-dogs.org, and I get to work with a fabulous group of sci-fi romance authors – but because I get to have a lot of fun incorporating a great alien pet into my story.
In last year’s anthology story, I happily wrote about a big, dangerous alien canine, and I also wrote about another alien dog (he was mostly a dog) in another of my series, so this year, I figured it was time to write about a cat. From that, Cat the cyborg feline was born.
In my novella, Dark Guard, my cyborg cat started her life as a small hunting cat from the lawless desert world of Carthago. After an accident, she is rescued by the cyborg gladiators of the House of Rone, and given several cybernetic enhancements.
There is quite a bit of my first real-life pet channeled into Cat. My first cat, Penny, was supposed to be a fun-loving sidekick for a little girl…but Penny didn’t really want anything to do with kids (or anyone, really)! Luckily, we got a dog about six months later. Cat in Dark Guard is actually very interested in the lives of the gladiator cyborgs of the House of Rone. She meddles, goes where she thinks she’s needed, and has a matchmaking streak she puts to good use.
Cat attaches herself to Calla – an alien woman who has been rescued by the House of Rone cyborgs. Cat does everything she can to shove Calla at cool, lethal cyborg, Zaden – the cyborg who saved her life during a daring, desert rescue. I might be a dog lover at heart, but I definitely have a soft spot for this super-smart, independent, interfering feline.

“The cat was stuck on the ledge and afraid.” Calla pointed upward. “I was trying to help him in case he fell.”
Zaden narrowed his gaze. “What?”
“The cyborg cat. It was stuck—”
There was a quiet thump, and the cat in question landed beside them on the ground with perfect dexterity. The animal lifted one paw and delicately licked it.
Calla gasped. “He jumped off just fine!”
Zaden frowned at the creature. He was well aware it was highly intelligent, especially with all its enhancements, and fully capable of playing games. “She. This animal is a she, and she can scale these walls perfectly fine.”
The cat lifted its head, looking the epitome of innocence. It had been the bane of his existence since he’d saved it from an accident and nursed it back to health.
He mentally cursed Jax for forcing the animal on him. Zaden remembered exactly what the cyborg had said. It will teach you how to deal with the emotions you like to pretend you don’t feel.
“Is it your cat?” Big, brown eyes looked up at him.
“I feed her.” Zaden didn’t mention that, despite a perfectly good bed, the cat crawled into his bed every night.
“So, she is yours.”
He stared at the cat. “No.”
Calla’s lips twitched. “Fine. What’s her name?”
“Cat,” he answered.
The woman gave a slow blink. “You called your cat, Cat?”
He felt the unfamiliar urge to shift his feet, but stifled it. “It appeared to be an appropriate moniker.”
Calla’s lips were definitely twitching.
