The last of 8 children, Keith was raised in a family that encouraged reading and learning. At an early age he was captivated by such works as "The Call Of The "Wild," "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea," and "Tom Sawyer." At age 12 Keith discovered Doc Savage - a pulp adventurer originally published starting in 1933 but resurrected in the early sixties in a series of Bantam paperbacks. The stories still hold a special place in Keith's heart.

The story revolves around a young mother who is a heroin addict. Following a near fatal overdose her children are taken from her. She finds herself in a rehab center trying to rebuild her life.
The book was inspired by my work as a volunteer with the Lucas County Juvenile Court, where I serve as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). I feel the book is an important one, as it deals with a lot of the issues facing struggling families today, especially concerning the use of heroin in our society. This is a problem that has truly grown to epidemic proportions lately. (less)

I worked years ago in a foundry and was always fascinated with the raw energy of the molten metal - plus the potential for devastation inherent in working in such an environment. This inspired what became the first chapter for "Remorse By Degree." Once I have this established as an opening I imagine where the character will be as a result of what I've thrown them into, which generally gives me an ending. Then it's just a question of filling in the gap to get me from Point A to Point Z. Simple. Right?(less)
