Weekend Roundup

I clearly have a big mouth. Just because I indicated on Friday’s blog that life has slowed the insane pace enough to be more manageable–the new garage door opener stopped working after two months. Wizard knew pretty quick why–they don’t make many openers for the older non-roll up doors, at least not ones we can get shipped to California.

When it comes to regulations, California is on drugs. This probably sounds blasphemous (sorry!), but California looked at God’s 10 Commandments and said, “Amateur. Somebody hold my GCB, non-fat, non-GMO, non-discriminatory, non-peanut-allergy, latte heated by solar energy, served in my environmentally-friendly cup with a fully degradable sippy straw, and watch this.  I will make a thousand commandments of stupidity in a single day. We shall create a no- business-can-survive economy, where the only product easily available is cannabis to ease the stress of life being impossible when you can’t buy and sell anything.

But…umm…perhaps I got off topic?

So we bought the expensive garage door opener that supposedly worked with the old style doors. I knew full well there was only a 50-50 chance of it working, particularly with a two car-garage door that’s been slightly warped by time. But while I mentioned that to Wizard, I could also see he was trying to solve the problem without spend a painful amount of money on new doors (we have a three car garage). Saturday, Wizard hooked it up, pressed the button and OMG, have you ever seen a metal railings push up and twist? I screamed, “Stop!” He did, but it had twisted enough that…well long story short (Ha! Too late for that!), we’re going to get estimates this week for the roll up doors. And just be grateful California allows us to buy roll up doors, instead of hanging a plant-based, gender-neutral tarp rescued from a garbage dump and in need of a forever home over the garage opening.

Oops, is my sarcasm showing?

But the rest of the weekend was good. We went to Special K’s for her birthday. It was a nice evening, and she went to a lot work cooking ribs for her own birthday :-)

Yesterday, I dropped by Youngest Son and Fiance’s house in the afternoon. They’ve painted everything inside of their house except the bedrooms,  and put up pictures. They’ve worked so hard making their house into a home, and I love seeing how happy they are after waiting years to start their life together. Their wedding is just a few weeks away.

So that was the rambling version of my weekend :-) How was your weekend?

Friday Five

TGIF! Okay let’s jump right into sharing five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

It’s been a quiet week compared to most weeks lately. So yay! I got a little writing done too. I’m moving through rewriting, and hitting the halfway point.  I will finish this book! The good news is my concentration is improving. It’s a slow process, and sometimes frustrating, but it is definitely happening.
Maggie was a little sore for a day or so from her DHPP booster shot on Tuesday, but her appetite was normal. That’s much better than the Rabies vaccine which upsets her stomach for a few days. Thankfully we only have to do that one every three years now. The side effects are a small price to pay though, as the vaccines save our pets from being desperately sick, and/or dying, from specific diseases. By the way, Maggie never complains or whines, we just noticed she’s slow and favoring the one leg, so we encouraged her to rest more.
After a consultation with two lawyers, Wizard and I are finally getting our affairs in order, so to speak. This is something we’ve said we were going to do for five years. Not that we procrastinate or anything, LOL! However it feels good to get that sorted out and in progress. We are both fine, this is just one of those things that’s on our list of things to do.
Apparently, Turbo has been saying Maggie’s name since he went home after spending the night here. Not Grandma or Grandpa :-( Nope, he’s been saying Maggie. How cute is that?
Saturday, we are going to CPA Boy’s and Special K’s house to celebrate Special K’s birthday. Maggie has a special invitation because of #4 :-)

See? My week was quieter than usual, and next week is looking like it might be reasonable too. Now it’s your turn to share five things about your week! I hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

Maggie Swears She’s Just Playing With Her Friends

Hi guys, it’s me, Maggie.

I’m blogger-talkin’ from the outside place where the trashcans live. Do you see me?

So, I’ve been standing here now for 45 minutes. I know that cuz my mom came outside and said, “Maggie, you’ve been standing here for 45 minutes.”

And I’m like, “Yeah, mom, I know! On account of I’m waiting for you or Wizard-dad to move the trashcan! There’s a lizard hiding under there and I gotta find him! It’s a game!”

My mom got a funny look on her face and went in the house.  Then I heard her and Wizard-dad talking, and saying words like: That dog is a serial killer of lizards. We need an intervention.

Sigh.

I am not a serial killer–whatever that is. I’m a nice girl, a sweet dog who loves, LOVES, playing hide and seek with my friends, allll the lizards. When they run or hide, I seek. I’m getting really good too! I tag them with my teeth or claws, and they stop running!

But I’m not a serial lizard killer. Cuz that sounds kind of mean, and I’m not mean. I know that for sure because I went to my Dr. Veterinarian today and she pronounced me, “Healthy and sweet”.  All medically official with her Dr. title and everything! And she gave me treats which proves I’m a good girl, am I right? I love Dr. Veterinarian!

Also, what’s an intervention? Maybe my mom and Wizard-dad need one?

Anyhow, that’s what I’m doing today. What are you all doing?

Weekend Update

Friday Biker Witch and I went to lunch to celebrate her birthday. We ate at cheesecake factory and mostly window shopped. I made a regrettable decision to order chocolate mousse cheesecake and eat more than half of it. It was delicious but anytime I eat that kind of heavy cream dessert, but stomach waits about 24 hours and them springs revenge on me.

My stomach is rude. Just saying.

Also, I’m an idiot. But hanging out and eating with Biker Witch is always fun!

Saturday and Sunday were all about Turbo and a success! Turbo came, he spent the night and went home healthy, happy and tired. We honestly had a delightful time with him. His very smart parents brought all the right things, including his car track and Legos, which we set up in the living room and we played in there for hours. Turbo even slept through the night. It took awhile to get him to go to sleep, but I don’t mind that.  I just didn’t want him to wake at 2am and be scared because his mom or dad wasn’t there with him.

He will be coming for a second overnight visit in two weeks. More exhausting fun ahead! And now, even if he does have a difficult night, he’ll be more familiar with waking up to Grandma and Grandpa.

Today I’ll probably skip the gym and get back to writing. It’s going to be a semi-busy week but I should have time to work.

How was your weekend?

Friday Five

It’s time to share five random things about our week. I’ll start with mine:

We went to the dentist yesterday and I got an A+. Wizard did not, LOL! Yep, I gloated, but only because his was really minor stuff and he teases me about my slightly over the top obsession with brushing and flossing my teeth.
I had hours on Wednesday to write and could not make a short scene work. Thursday I had less than an hour before leaving for the dentist and that’s when the solution came to me. That’s pretty much my writing life :-)
My brother called yesterday and he’s doing great after his cancer surgery. I’m so happy that he went after this so fast and aggressive. His prognosis is really positive. Luck played a huge part in that too, of course. He was able to catch it early, it’s a cancer that can be surgically removed, he had access to health care…so many factors that contributed to his good outcome. I am very aware of how fortunate we are. We also have a relative fighting hard with a less positive prognosis.
Today I’m taking Biker Witch out to celebrate her birthday! I’m looking forward to a sister day. We will probably manage to stay out of trouble. Maybe.
Saturday is a big day for us! The plan is that our grandson will spend the night without his parents for the first time. Of course, with a toddler things can change, and Turbo can struggle with teething now and again. But right now, his parents plan to drop him off, leave, and come back Sunday to pick him up. This wouldn’t be a big deal if we lived closer, but we are a solid hour (more with traffic) away and Turbo’s only 18 months old. I so appreciate them doing this! Wizard is so excited! I am too, but seeing Wizard’s joy just adds to mine.

So that’s my week and weekend plans. Now I’d love to hear five random things about your week! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Weekend Roundup

My weekend must have been on steroids :-)

So Friday night, Youngest Son texted and asked if I was coming by on Saturday. I told him yes, I was bringing him cookies. My sneaky boy then casually said, “Great! And if you want you can help me paint.”

Yep, I was totally set up! And of course I did it since Youngest is technically still on the injured list with his sliced up hand. So Saturday, I made breakfast, then baked cookies, and got to Youngest Son’s by 10:30 am. We painted a couple of living room walls while his fiance was at work. By the way, she’d painted two other walls all by herself the day before! I finished up some trim work on those walls then moved onto the other two walls. It’s fun to help out. And Wizard brought us lunch and some supplies. Then I came home and cooked dinner, watched a movie and passed out? LOL!

Sunday, Wizard went racing, and I had my soon to be daughter-in-law’s shower. My awesome, amazing sister came over early brought me a large latte. Best Latte Ever! We got to spend an hour enjoying our coffee and chatting, then we headed over to the beautiful shower. The bride’s sister and mom did the shower, and I’m so impressed with how lovely it turned out. But when I looked at my watch, four hours had gone by! I needed to get Biker Watch back to my house so she could get home. So we left but…

My car wouldn’t start. Grrr! I hate car trouble. However, my oldest son had come to pick up his wife and my other daughter-in-law, so I ran around the corner–in heels!–and caught them before they left. They jumped my car, it started and I got us home. So while it stressed me out a bit, all is fine. Tomorrow we’ll get the battery changed.

Are you all impressed I can run, okay more like slow-jog, in heels? Okay they were wedges, but still, they are high wedges and I didn’t break my ankle :-)

So that was my weekend, how was yours?

Friday Five

So this week came and went. I’m always mildly alarmed lately at how fast time is passing! So here’s five truly random things about my week:

Yesterday we went to see Turbo! We took him out on our first solo grandparents trip to McDonald’s and it went very well. Turbo chowed down on chicken nuggets, french fries and applesauce while chatting away to us in Toddlerese. I know some of the words like apple, ice, bus, car, baby, and good. Some were in Vietnamese as Turbo is bilingual which is über cool. And some words were part of the mysterious secret language of toddlers.
The best part was when Grandpa and Special K attempted Project Unistall the Car Seat from our car. It took the two people with master’s degrees in the family nearly fifteen minutes to conquer and complete Project Uninstall. When I asked Wizard about it later, he rolled his eyes and said there’s a web of straps hidden beneath the device making it a tricky project. Okay….
This week I found a bra that’s the perfect color for my dress for Youngest’s wedding! Is that TMI? **shrug** Don’t care, the struggle has been real to find the exact right shade. The dress has a sheer illusion neckline, so I was determined to match the color enough so the straps of the bra would blend rather than stand out. I succeeded, I think…or my vision is so bad I can’t tell. So then I asked Wizard if he thought it worked, and he gave me the thumbs up. Yay, success! But wait…Wizard has terrible vision and has had two eyes surgeries…never mind. I shall believe the bra works :-)
Last weekend, Youngest was prepping a wall in his house for painting, and the tool he was using mistook his hand for the wall. He’s fine–Urgent Care fixed him right up with some glue and Steri-Strips. Last night, I asked him how his hand was doing and if he needed cookies to heal faster. He replied that his hand is doing well, but he definitely needed cookies to achieve ultimate healing. Well duh, every mom knows that. So Saturday, I will be taking cookies to Youngest Son.
Sunday is my soon to be daughter-in-law’s bridal shower! They’re wedding is the first part of November–it’s coming fast!

So that was some of my week, and now I’d love to hear five random things about your week! Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Where Are All the Good Men?

Yep in Romance Novels! LOLOL! I’m teasing of course since I believe I married a good man, and raised three. Good men are definitely out there, but the show up much more consistently in romance novels for sure!

So true confession time: I haven’t been reading romance novels for a few months now. Who knows why, but lately, I’m starting to REALLY miss romance stories and that’s a relief :-) However I’m going to give it a little more time as I must have just needed a break.

What about you all, do you ever need a break from specific things?

Weekend Roundup

My weekends have been hijacked by life, LOL! And that’s okay. I’m happy to be busy :-)

Saturday was my mother-in-law’s husband’s 90th birthday. It was very sweet seeing his family honor him. I went by myself as Wizard had to be somewhere else. That’s not as weird as it sounds–Wizard’s dad passed away when he was a teenager, so this is his mom’s second marriage. But Wizard absolutely would have been there if he hadn’t had a prior commitment. Anyway, I went, and had a great time. Traffic sucked as usual, but audiobooks make traffic much easier to cope with!

Sunday, Wizard was still occupied, so I went to see my favorite boy, Turbo!

We had fun doing simple things like going to breakfast and to the park to play. He’s 18 months old now!

Then Special K gave me a gift:

Ha! Does my daughter-in-law know me? Yes she does!

Oh, and yesterday, I once again proved I can’t be trusted around chocolate, even frozen chocolate. I ate a frozen Twix Bar and I loved it! I let it soften for a few minutes, and then enjoyed every bite.

How was your weekend?
