A New Day Has Come!

welcome-852083

For some weeks and months, both my husband and myself have been working really hard on writing, editing, formatting, and publishing my ebooks. My editor has been hard at work, working his fingers down to the nubs trying to get my work out and ready for publication.

During this time, it was clear that my previous website wasn’t going to work with new content for older readership, so my husband and I started on the journey towards finding the perfect theme, and modifying it to suit us. Of course, this was extremely hard to do because it had to fit into our hectic lifestyle. We were often up in the middle of the night, putting the final touches on pieces for publication at the crack of dawn.

But, as of this very moment, our website is up and running and ready for readers to purchase an ebook to their liking. I am extremely excited about the endless possibilities of growing my readership around the globe. You don’t quite know how pleased I am to see my books purchased half way around the world. What a thrilling sight!

The journey of a self-published author can be an extremely challenging one, but I wouldn’t change a thing! I have learned so much from fellow authors, writing groups, my readers, and of course, my family. Without their constant support and acknowledgement, I don’t think I’d have pushed myself this far. Extra special thanks to the webmaster, (my husband) AJ, for creating this site.

As I often tell my students, “How do you know what you’re capable of if you don’t try?” Well, here’s me telling you, I pushed myself, I tried, I nearly got burnt out under the pressure, but I’m still going!

The Science Book

Overview

The Science Book Everything You Need to Know About the World and How It Works encapsulates centuries of scientific thought in one volume. Natural phenomena, revolutionary inventions, scientific facts, and the most uptodate questions are all explained in detailed text that is complemented by visually arresting graphics.

Six major sections ranging from the universe and the planet Earth to biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics are further broken down into subsections that encompass everything from microscopic life to nuclear power.

The Science Book covers a wide range of scientific areas, providing both a general overview of topics for the browsing reader, and more specific information for those who wish to obtain in depth insight into a particular subject area. Natural phenomena, revolutionary inventions, scientific facts, and upto date questions are explained in detailed texts. The vivid illustrations, pictures, and graphics throughout the book make the information even more accessible and comprehensible.

Within the book, the theory of the universe and the character of the earth are detailed, along with an overview of the diverse living organisms that can be found on Earth. The technical developments and achievements of humankind are discussed and we pay particular attention to subjects of current interest, like climate change and genetic engineering.

The well structured organization of this book with its numerous sections and chapters offers the reader an entertaining introduction into the large field of natural sciences and allows just as well for quick reference. Events and issues of special significance are discussed in greater detail in side bars of 3 different kinds. Numerous cross references within the chapters and to other sections of the book emphasize the many links between the individual scientific fields. Illustrative elements, such as 3D graphics and pictograms and the great variety of photographic material make even the most complex information easy.

The Book of Dragon

Overview

The first seven of Steven Brusts Vlad Taltos novels have long been in print from Ace Books in a set of three trade paperback omnibuses. Now Tor, publisher of the series from book eight on, continues the series of omnibuses by putting Dragon and Issola into print in that format.

In Dragon, Vlad finds himself in the last place any self respecting assassin wants to be the army. Worse, he in the middle of an apocalyptic battle between two sorcerous armies, and everyone expects him to perform a role that they would not explain. Vlad may kill people for a living, but this is ridiculous. All he has got to rely on are his wits and a smart mouthed winged lizard.

In Issola, Vlads aristocratic friends Morrolan and Aliera have disappeared, and according to the eldritch (but affable) Sethra Lavode, they may be in the hands of the Jenoine the mysterious beings who made the world of the Dragaera Empire and its surroundings, and who may have come from somewhere else. Oh, well, what is life without the occasional cosmic battle with beings who control time and space.

Future Science

Overview

Editor Max Brockman presents the work of some of todays brightest and most innovative young researchers in this fascinating collection of writings that introduce the very latest theories and discoveries in science. Future Science features eighteen young scientists, most of whom are presenting their work and ideas to a general audience for the first time. Included in this collection are

William McEwan, a virologist, discussing his research into the biology of antiviral immunity
Naomi Eisenberger, a neuroscientist, wondering how social rejection affects us physically
Jon Kleinberg, a computer scientist, showing what massive datasets can teach us about society and ourselves
Anthony Aguirre, a physicist, who gives readers a tantalizing glimpse of infinity

Future Science shares with the world a delightful secret that we academics have been keeping that despite all the hysteria about how electronic media are dumbing down the next generation, a tidal wave of talent has been flooding into science, making their elders feel like the dumb ones. . . . It has a wealth of new and exciting ideas, and will help shake up our notions regarding the age, sex, color, and topic cliches of the current public perception of science. Steven Pinker, author of The Stuff of Thought.

Now You See It

Overview

A digital innovator shows how we can thrive in the new technological age.

When Cathy Davidson and Duke University gave free iPods to the freshman class in 2003, critics said they were wasting their money. Yet when students in practically every discipline invented academic uses for their music players, suddenly the idea could be seen in a new light as an innovative way to turn learning on its head.

This radical experiment is at the heart of Davidsons inspiring new book. Using cutting edge research on the brain, she shows how attention blindness has produced one of our societys greatest challenges while we have all acknowledged the great changes of the digital age, most of us still toil in schools and workplaces designed for the last century. Davidson introduces us to visionaries whose groundbreaking ideas from schools with curriculums built around video games to companies that train workers using virtual environments will open the doors to new ways of working and learning. A lively hybrid of Thomas Friedman and Norman Doidge, Now You See It is a refreshingly optimistic argument for a bold embrace of our connected, collaborative future.

Ingeniously organized and eminently browsable, this richly visual volume is divided into six big sections medicine, transportation, communication, biology, chemistry, and the environment. Words and images that work together to explain such fascinating and elusive subjects as cloud computing, sunshields to cool the Earth, and self driving cars.
