My Favorite Quote from Just the Way You Are

Hey Readers,

Today I thought I would write a blog about my favorite quote from Just the Way You Are. My favorite quote comes from none other than Derrick Denison, Royal Prince of Mooncrest. At one point he says, “People with disabilities can do anything able-bodied can do. They just have to do it a little differently.” This is my favorite quotes because it embodies one of the many lessons that I hope people will learn from the book. The particular lesson I’m referring to is the fact that people with disabilities can do anything that we set our minds to. We just may have to do it in a unconventional way. Furthermore, I hope that after reading Derrick’s quote and Just the Way You Are in its entirety, people will better understand that if people with disabilities accept and embrace our differences and love ourselves just as we are then we will definitely be able to accomplish whatever we set our minds to even if it requires achieving a goal anyway that is considered “outside of the box.”

What is your favorite quote from Just the Way You Are and why? Comment on the discussion or social media post associated with this blog post and let me know. Until next time, as always, happy reading and don’t forget to love yourself just the way you are

More Recent Reviews of Just the Way You Are

Hey Readers,

Today I thought I would share a few more recent reviews of Just the Way You Are.  I’m so proud to know that people are enjoying the book!  Read some recent reviews below.

This is a beautifully written modern feeling fairy tale. I adored this book and its characters. Misty and Derrick are wonderful and charming and relatable. Allison Lewis weaves a beautiful story that will charm its readers and leave them wanting more. Loved this book.

Just the Way You Are by Allison M. Lewis is unlike any book I have read lately. It is written and read like a fairy tale. Although written about adults it did have a juvenile tone, which for me can be a breathe a fresh air.

This was my first read by Allison M. Lewis and I will seek out more books by her. It is admirable that she tells her own story at the end.

If your looking for a unique fairytale read, this book is for you.

5 Stars

Just the Way You Are, is the debut novel by Allison M. Lewis. This is a delightful and inspiring fantasy that has a fairy tale feel to it. It is a story of self- acceptance, with magic, and adventure. I loved this super sweet, clean, fun read.

Misty Miles is the Princess of Starrycrest, but she’s not your typical Princess. There is so much more to her than I think even she realises. She has a disability that confines her to a wheelchair and keeps her in a tower high above the palace. Her parents don’t want the news of her disability to make their monarchy appear weak, so Misty spends her days in the tower. She has fallen in love with Prince Derrick, from the neighbouring kingdom of Mooncrest- after seeing his picture and reading all about him in an article in the local gazette. Misty dreams of seeing much more of her world, travelling to Mooncrest and meeting Prince Derrick- but when her parents refuse to let her leave- she decides to sneak away. And this is where her amazing journey begins.

What happens on her adventure? Will she meet Prince Derrick? What happens then? What of their feuding families? Will there be a happily-ever-after in this Princess’s future? You really will have to read this lovely story and discover all the delightful details for yourself!

Ms. Lewis, who has a disability herself, has written this story to send a message of self-acceptance to other young girls/women- to love and accept yourself, just the way you are. I think that is a wonderfully inspiring thing to do!

This story is really well written, with fantastic characters, strong character growth and development, detailed scene setting, descriptive world building, and a very enjoyable plot. This is a fairy tale with a difference- but has all the feels, charm and interest you could ever want.

I really recommend this beautiful story to anyone who enjoys fantasy/fairy tales- as well as a strong heroine who isn’t afraid of being different! It’s her difference that really makes this story special, uplifting and memorable!

I can’t wait to see what Ms. Lewis has in store for us next!

Thank you, Ms. Lewis!

How YOU Can Help Promote My Books

Hey Readers,

I thought I’d write a blog about ways that you can help to promote my book. Yes, as an author, I understand it is my job to promote my books, but let’s face it, in today’s book market the more promotion you have the better off you are. That’s where you come in as my readers. I want you to understand something before you read my list of ways that you can help to promote my books. Please understand that for me, promoting my book is not about sales, it is about something far more important. I write books to promote messages of self-acceptance and equality for all. I am a very strong advocate for myself and others with disabilities and my writing is a big part about. I want my messages of self-acceptance and equality to be seen by as many people as possible which is why it’s important to promote my books. I truly believe, and I’m hopeful, that my messages will make a positive impact on the world someday, but that can only happen if the messages are shared by people everywhere. Now that you know the importance of promoting my books, please read over this list of ways that readers can help to promote them and do whatever you can to help. Thank you very much in advance.

1. Tell other people about my books. Word of mouth makes more of an impact than you think so please tell everyone you know. Please be sure to tell any sports teams or extracurricular groups that any children you know are involved with. My books are geared towards children and young adults ages 8 to 15, but people outside of that age group have enjoyed the books as well. Once again, please be sure to tell everyone you know.

2. Submit a book review on Amazon, b&n.com, Goodreads, and other websites. As I have said in previous blog posts, reviews can make all the difference.

3. “Like” and follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media websites and share my posts on your social media. Millions of people use social media in this day and age, so it important to promote any business or product via social media.

4. Read blog posts on my website and comment on the discussions as well as the social media posts connected to them. It is so much more fun to promote my books when I can interact with my readers.

5. Join the VIP reader email list on my website and encourage your friends to do so. Joining the list will allow you to stay up-to-date on everything going on with my books. I write emails about things like book promotions, giveaways, and writing projects I’m working on. If that interests you, please join the list.

Again, please read over this list and help promote my books in any way that you can. Happy reading and, as always, until next time don’t forget to love yourself just the way you are :-).

Launch Party Ideas for The Magic Within???

As you may or may not know, although I have not decided on an exact date yet, I’m set to publish The Magic Within in March of 2018. With that said, I’d like to host some sort of a launch party when it is published. These days most authors host launch parties via social media since social media sites get so much traffic. I’m coming to you as my readers to see if you have any ideas as to what could set my launch party for The Magic Within apart? Is there one social media site you think I should use over the others? If so, which site do you think would be best and why? Would you be more apt to “attend” a launch party on social media if I included some type of giveaway or contest involving the book? Would you participate in a Q&A type of thing at the launch party? Do you have any other suggestions for a social media type launch party? Do you think I should do a launch party outside of social media? If so what type of ideas do you have for that? Would you be willing to attend a book signing? If so how far would you travel? Do you think I should do a combination of a social media and real life launch party? Comment on the discussion associated with this blog post or the social media post associated with it and let me know your thoughts. Please and thank you. Happy reading and, as always, until next time don’t forget to love yourself just the way you are :).

The Story Behind My Wedding Rings

As you may or may not know, I became Allison M. Boot on October 15th 2016. Today, I thought I’d write a little blog about the story behind my wedding rings which are pictured in this post. Shortly after Just the Way You Are was published  in November 2015, my husband took a copy of the book to our local jewelry store in Champaign Urbana Illinois and have them design a ring based on the one described in the book that Derrick gave to Misty when he proposed. How sweet is that? As you can see from the picture, I picked out a butterfly wedding band to match it and he went with a simple white gold band. I should note the in this picture all three of our rings are placed on the paw of our black lab, Murdock, who inspired Misty service dog, Dex, in Just the Way You Are. Do you like my wedding rings? Do you think the engagement ring looks like the one described in Just the Way You Are? Go to my discussion page and comment on the discussion associated with this post or comment on the social media post associated with it to let me know. Happy reading and, as always, until next time don’t forget to love yourself just the way you are

My New Year’s Resolutions As a Writer

Hey Readers,

Happy 2018!  I decided that I should a write a post about my new year’s resolutions today.  I have two very simple resolutions.

Write at least three times a week as long as the writing doesn’t feel forced. I never want my writing to feel forced because I don’t think forced writing is any good, but, at the same time, I know I need to write more often, so I am going to try and write something every couple of days in 2018 even if it is just a few words.
Read more.  Graduate school pretty much killed my love of reading, but I am going to try and fix that this year by making myself read a little bit more.  Hopefully, I will become a better writer in the process.  What are your new year’s resolutions for 2018?  Comment on the discussion post associated with this blog on my discussion page or comment on the social media post associated with this blog and let me know.  Happy reading and, as always, until time don’t forget to love yourself just the way you are :).

Recent Reviews of Just the Way You Are

Hey Readers,

Today I thought I’d share what other people are saying about Just the Way You Are.  Below are some recent reviewers.

Just the Way You Are by Allison M. Lewis is a fantastic fairy tale showcasing disabled princess and the prince that loved her. Misty Miles is the princess everyone wants to be, until they find out her wheelchair isn’t just for show. Her parents have locked her away as a way to protect her and the kingdom, and yet they are actually hurting their daughter with self-doubt and misunderstanding. Derrick Denison is the prince from the next kingdom, and he and Misty are star crossed lovers. Misty is willing to do whatever it takes to be the woman that Derrick needs, and yet she fails to see that she may already be just that woman. I really enjoyed this story, and feel like it needs to be read in all schools – especially those that have disabled children in them. This book was full of love and respect for those who are different than other people and show that just because you are different doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve a happy ending. This is the first book that I have read by Allison M. Lewis but if her other works are anything like this one than I will be buying them for sure. If you are looking for a feel good book that is guaranteed to leave you with a warm afterglow than this is the book for you.

I just want to thank the author so much for making a not so perfect princess. This was a true fairy tale story for me. The way the prince put people before himself was so sweet. I was so happy when the princess didn’t listen to her parents. The author did such a good thing writing about how everyone can get their wish no matter who you are. This book was so well-written and carefully thought-out, I can tell. The story had real problems which is nice because it made everything possible. Yes, there was Prince Charming but the glass slipper was a wheelchair in a few different situations. I want to read this to my daughter when she gets older.

Just The Way You are by Allison M. Lewis was a sweet, powerful story about excepting yourself, flaws and all.

This is that perfect bedtime story that should be read to every child. Short and to the point this beautifully written story is what we need to see more of, in not only children’s books, but books of all genres. How many books out there have MC’s that have a major disability? You can probably count them on one had (I’m taking fiction like YA, NA, and fantasy). This book is breaking down barriers and showing us that, yes, you can do anything no matter who you are, fit, not fit, able, disable.

Misty Miles is a strong role model, she is what children need to be looking up to. There is a path Misty undergoes, because she wants to find her true love, but she also wants to dance. Through magic, conditions, and realization, Misty grows, learns, and finds true love in a different way.

I can’t tell you enough how much I loved this book. It is uplifting and, as I said, perfect for story time. The reading is easy, the flow is smooth and the content is easy to understand.

I want this book to be everywhere, schools, libraries, bookstores and pre-schools. Break the stigma, everyone has the right to be who that want to be and not be judge, told they can’t because they are different. We need more books like this, the time for perfect princesses and princes are over.

Take my high recommendation that you will be changed from reading this beautifully crafted story.

Happy Reading

What Type of Book Do You Prefer?

Which type of book do you  enjoy most? Do you prefer old fashioned paper books, ebooks, or do you listen to to audiobooks.? I tend to prefer ebooks if the books I read on e-readers are text-to-speech enabled. Reading text-to-speech enabled books combines both the benefit of audiobooks and the benefit of e-readers. I sometimes find it difficult to concentrate on audio books if I don’t have something to hold onto help anchor my attention. Listening to a text-to-speech enabled book on an e-reader helps eliminate that problem. Listening to books on an e-reader also eliminates having to turn pages which is good for me because I often used to drop paperback books when trying to turn the pages of them. Why do you prefer the type of book that you most enjoy? Do you think the people would enjoy listening to The Magic Within and Just the Way You Are in audio format?  Comment on this blog or the social media post associated with it and let me know. Until next time… happy reading and, as always, don’t forget to love yourself just the way you are
