She is one of my favorite painters. She immigrated to the US in China in 1984 with just $20 and two suitcases to complete her masters at UCSD. She creates work about forgotten and displaced people in history and critics have called her “the greatest Chinese painter in the U.S.” She continues to be an influential artist living the in Bay Area.
