Rose and Elaine

The inimitable Rose Mackey commissioned me to make this drawing of her and Elaine Kahn in exchange for a pie as a "going-away" gift. Rose is a brilliant filmmaker, more recently directing the music video for Thurston Moore's "Circulation", and Elaine makes excellently eerie music under the name Horsebladder.

Cave Bears in the Village Voice

Check out this article about the Cave Bears in the Village Voice, I took the photo (enlarged version above)! It's from a show we both played at Port d'Or in Brooklyn on New Year's Eve, and was absolutely one of my favorite sets I've ever seen them play. It included them throwing tapes completely covered in Vaseline at the audience, rapping over a Bob Marley cassette, and closing with a Les Rallizes Dénudés cover. Needless to say, it was a fun night.

"2012" notebook

I don't generally post process pages on this blog, but the density and manic quality of this spread seemed kind of interesting to me, so I thought I'd throw it up for the hell of it, all notes and thumbnails from my newest comic book, "2012".

Post-Materialists cassette

Check out the cover design I did for this new cassette by the Post-Materialists, out now on Eggy Records! So sayeth Eggy:

"The world is a big place and Russia is long way away. Post-Materialists hail from Moscow and their style of fringe music is as far removed from what I'm used to as their location is removed from me geographically. I dig how "classically weird" they sound -- no reverb, very little delay, relatively clean recordings, lots of backwards sounds and an emphasis on odd textures, plain and simple. So if you're concerned about whether the music you listen to sounds "cool" or not, you can skip this one. For real. But if you're ok with things being playful and a little odd, you will get some enjoyment out of this tape. It's definitely out of the ordinary. The singing is in Russian!"

You can grab a copy from their official mail order zone.

2012

Remember all those weird green pages that have appeared intermittently on this blog? Well, those and some unseen others have been collected into an oversized 28-page comic book, premiering at the Toronto Comics Art Festival this weekend, courtesy of Secret Acres. Put simply, it is the true story of the end of humanity as we know it, the impending end times, and the world that exists thereafter (featuring Dracula and Jackie Chan). There will be extremely limited quantities at the convention, so if you're going, get at it quick (I'll be there too!), but it should be printed in a full run soon after to be found in all the regular comics haunts.

Sammy's Garden

This footage was originally filmed for a segment on the future children's program, "Luna Vroum's Room", but I decided to make my own "director's cut". Spring fever is a dangerous thing...
