Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic

It is with great pleasure I welcome back Sam Cheever an Award-Winning author and good friend. The blog is all yours, Sam.

On March 8th, my story Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic will release as part of a box set entitled Tall, Dark & Alpha. As the name implies, this set features 10 hot Alpha heroes and the women who keep them on their toes. I’m really excited about this story because I believe, as the rabid sales of romances with strong alpha males show, women are desperately seeking an alpha. In fact, I’ve done a series of blog posts on that very subject. Here’s a tidbit from one:

The alpha male is the next great endangered species. He is drugged into oblivion in grade school to force him to sit still and have no aggressive tendencies at all. He's bound and controlled throughout early adulthood by political correctness that declares his every natural instinct and need as abhorrent and deviant. In fact, now, his last vestige of normal male fun, sports, is currently being nit-picked and micro-managed in a ridiculous attempt to envelop its participants in virtual bubble wrap and create a more genteel enterprise.

Nonsense.

Men were created with big muscles so that they could hunt and gather and fight off predators. They are driven and active, and have learned to work off their more aggressive tendencies in sport and competition. These are all good things. Throughout history women and children have depended on these aspects of the human male for their very survival. If you believe those days are past, you haven't read the news lately. We still need our alpha males! Full blog post http://samcheever.com/blog/thursday-t...

I love a good fictional as well as real life alpha male, which is why I wrote Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic. And I can’t wait to share the wonderful Audie Kord with you on March 8th! In the meantime, here’s a taste:

A grand passion in an apocalyptic world. A love beyond reason and without boundaries.

He’s a warrior, a bounty hunter in a world turned upside down. She’s a target, a creature of dark magic. His job is simple. Kill the target. Her goal is more complex. She must stay alive until she finds and destroys the source of death magic staining the twenty worlds. But the passion burning within them may be their undoing. It’s going to take an apocalyptic will to overcome the distraction their bodies are creating…and not lose themselves in the process.

EXCERPT
“There are ten reborns in that hillside lair.”

Audie pulled his sword so quickly the woman’s sexy blue gaze widened slightly with alarm. “Let’s go kill them.”

Instead of moving, Yeira just stared up at him, looking eminently disappointed.

When she didn’t move, Audie placed the tip of his sword in the dirt at his feet and leaned on it. “What?”

“Have you even been listening to me?”

He frowned. “Hanging on every word, why?”

“You remember the part about my goal? Wherein I don’t kill everything that moves but instead try to find Edana?”

She sounded so much like his legal counsel Audie couldn’t help grinning. She certainly didn’t look anything like any lawyer he’d ever met. “Vaguely.”

She turned on her heel and strode away, her feet hitting the dry, scratchy-sounding grass much harder than they needed to. Feeling just a tiny bit proud of himself for getting under her skin, Audie started after her.

The warm fuzziness didn’t last long. As soon as he caught up she glanced at him and asked. “So how good are you at restrictive magics?”

Audie worked hard not to show his panic. “I’m much better at whacking things than restraining them.”

One corner of her delicious mouth curved upward. “You do have guide magic, right?”

“Of course!” He was deeply insulted by her question. Only the novice hunter walked around without a guide to call. “I didn’t say I couldn’t restrain them. I just said I was better at lopping off their heads.”

She sniffed but didn’t say anything and Audie’s temper flared. Suddenly he found it very important to prove himself to her. He stopped and the woman kept walking. Watching her fine, heart-shaped behind sway away from him, he lifted one hand, palm up. With a thought he called the magic in their surroundings and sparking blue particles of energy suddenly filled the air, speeding toward him. The light caught and swirled in a power-whirlwind above his palm, waiting for his direction.

Smiling, Audie glanced at the woman, whose, curvy form had widened the distance between them by ten feet. With a single thought he sent the swirling blue magic toward her, grinning as it wrapped her in a shimmering embrace, dragging her to a halt.

She gave a little squeal of alarm and Audie strode over, stopping to stare down at her. “It appears my restrictive magics work just fine.

She struggled against his magic web. “Good. Now let me go.”

Watching her fight the magic, her silky, red hair flying around delicate shoulders as she struggled to get free, something broke inside Audie. Something that had been closed was wrenched open. And suddenly he couldn’t help wondering what her wine-colored lips would taste like—pondering how they’d feel moving softly beneath his.

Once the thought was free he couldn’t call it back and Audie found himself stepping closer.

She stopped struggling and looked up at him through those unfathomable blue eyes, the thick fringe of dark red lashes fluttering slightly as she seemed to consider whether he meant her harm. Audie reached out and touched her porcelain-colored cheek, and she flinched.

His finger scraped softly against the velvet surface and Audie turned it so the callouses on the tips wouldn’t abrade her delicate skin. “How is it possible that you’re so beautiful?” He murmured. It was meant to be a thought. One he’d wondered all too often to himself. But the words had escaped his lips and she’d heard.

Yeira’s eyes widened in alarm. “Look, hunter, I…”

He didn’t want to hear what she had to say. Couldn’t stand it if, in the moment when his cold heart had warmed slightly, she filled the heat-charged air between them with ugly words. So he did the only thing he could. He lowered his head and captured her lush, burgundy lips with his own.

And the thing that had blossomed inside his chest creaked open another inch as she responded with instinctual passion to his touch.

The Temps are Freezing in the USA

but it's Hotter than Hell in Finland!

ON FIRE IN FINLAND, Book 1 of Melt the Ice series, is now available.

Fire and ice...

White nights...White hot passion

Scorching vacation sex is uppermost in jingle writer Kate Adam’s mind during her few days in Finland. That was the plan until her sports car dies on a lonely ribbon of country road. Her fantasies reignite when a delicious looking blue collar local crawls past in his beater truck.

Hot women and expensive cars are always a temptation for Rurik Jaacko, and his downfall. This time he must stay focused and drive right past the shapely woman stranded on the side of the road. But manners force him pull over. A few moments with Kate sparks a sizzling attraction that has Rurik offering more than a simple tow.

Roadside assistance spins into a white-hot ride as Rurik and Kate butt heads and burn up the sheets.

EXCERPT:
With his hard-on raging, Rurik watched her nipples harden and peak through the thin knit shirt. Obviously their heated exchange excited her. Or perhaps that he had taken control.

Women want to be dominated.

“There are times a man must take a stand with an unruly woman.” He caught her wrist and tugged her closer.

“You wouldn’t dare!”

Color drained from her cheeks. But was that a sparkle in her eyes?

He stopped. What about the consequences? Either he would be a hero or Kate would pack her bags right after she rang the police.

“Yes, today I would.” He dropped onto a birch stump and, with a quick yank, upended her over his knees. Her perfect ass across his lap was too tempting not to continue.

“You’d better stop before it’s too late, buddy.” She turned her head and shot him a glare that could melt steel.

“It already is.” His palm came down with a resounding smack.

“Ouch.” She kicked her legs and wrestled beneath him.

He laid an arm over her shoulders to keep her in place and prayed he had made the right decision.

“Rurik, you are so going to pay for this,” she wailed, startling the birds from the trees.

And he would, right after he laid another open-palm swat on her firm ass.

Whack.

She yelped at the contact. And he loved the sound. He might have been wrong about her being a spoiled, over-privileged woman, but a good spanking was in order to assert his authority. But he had better run like hell when he finally let her up because she was going to murder him.

His hand came down again, not quite as hard, and lingered on her sexy rear, petting away the sting. He ran his fingers along the curve of her cheeks hidden beneath the tight denim shorts. What did his handprint look like on her milky flesh? A stirring below his belt pressed against his fly and forced him to shift unsuccessfully under her weight.

She wiggled against his cock, enhancing his torture, and he failed to stifle the groan.

“Are you through beating me into submission?”

Her words came out breathlessly and reminded him of how she had purred against his balls the night before.

“No. I do not think so.”

Whap.

His hand smacked solid on her ass. She shrieked. And he loved her reaction.

He grazed a finger under the ragged edge of her shorts and inched up the inside of her thigh, seeking the heat beneath her thong. He hooked the lacy strap and tugged, drawing it tight against her labia. He released it and yanked up again. Her soft gasp traveled on a gentle breeze.

The musky scent of her arousal drifted up and encouraged him to please her. He glided a finger closer to her folds, teasing along the way with light pinches to her flesh, until he slipped inside her hot channel. Her wet pussy flexed against him, clenching—relaxing, and milking his finger like her mouth had done to his cock.

“I think you like this, Kate.” He did.

A whimper rose like a caress. Her hair tumbled free as she nodded.

He pulled out, then slid back in with two fingers and pressed firmer against her wall.

“Should I continue your torture or”—he massaged up and down until she bucked against him—“take you into the house and fuck you fast and hard?”

A soft gurgle washed her words away, and his balls tightened.

Super Supper

I am elated to announce my dear friend Sharon Ledwith's book Legend of the Timekeepers has won Honorable Mention in LRC's annual awards for Best Young Adult/New Adult Book 2013! This is book one in her time travel series that is enjoyed by everyone from nine to ninety.

Sharon is here to share a delicious meal you will truly enjoy. And cleanup is a snap. So take it away...

I LOVE this recipe. I used it for my first book launch party in May 2012. My reason? The characters in my time travel series The Last Timekeepers got to sample a 13th century version of bread bowl rabbit stew, so I thought for my book release—why not imitate art? Since rabbit is a bit harder to find at the local supermarket, I settled on beef for the main ingredient. I believe my party-goers were happy with that decision as my recipe went over fabulously even though it was a tad hot to serve on the sunny, humid day we experienced. But on those cool, damp days, this steamy stew will bring a smile to your face, and comfort to your soul.

This recipe takes about fifteen minutes to prepare and eight or five hours to cook. Serves four.

Bull’s-Eye Beef Stew
4 bread bowls (or if you prefer, large Kaiser buns). Click HERE to see how to make one.
1 cup 25%-less-sodium beef broth
½ cup Bull’s-Eye Guinness Draught Beer Blend Barbecue Sauce you can substitute this sauce with your favorite brand
1 tsp. dried oregano leaves
1 lb. (450g) stewing beef, cut into 1¼ inch cubes
1 lb. (450g) red potatoes (about 4), quartered
4 large carrots (1 lb./450g), cut into 1-inch-thick slices
1 large onion, cut into chucks
3 tbsp. flour
3 tbsp. water

Mix broth, barbecue sauce and oregano in slow cooker. Add all remaining ingredients except flour and water; toss to coat. Cover with lid. Cook on low 8 to 9 hours or on high 4 to 5 hours.

Transfer meat and vegetables to bread bowl with slotted spoon; cover to keep warm.

Mix flour and water until blended. Stir into juices in slow cooker; cover. Cook on high for 15 minutes or until slightly thickened.

Spoon over meat and vegetables and serve.

While you’re waiting for the stew to cook, there’s plenty of time to relax, get cozy, and delve into that novel you’ve been planning to read. Time travel story, anyone?

There is no moving forward without first going back.

Lilith was a young girl with dreams and a family before the final destruction of Atlantis shattered those dreams and tore her family apart. Now refugees, Lilith and her father make their home in the Black Land. This strange, new country has no place in Lilith’s heart until a beloved high priestess introduces Lilith to her life purpose—to be a Timekeeper and keep time safe.

Summoned through the seventh arch of Atlantis by the Children of the Law of One, Lilith and her newfound friends are sent into Atlantis’s past, and given a task that will ultimately test their courage and try their faith in each other. Can the Timekeepers stop the dark magus Belial before he changes the seers’ prophecy? If they fail, then theirfuture and the earth’s fate will be altered forever.

If you haven’t already read Sharon Ledwith's novel, The Last Timekeepers and the Arch of Atlantis , here’s the blurb…

When 13-year-old Amanda Sault and her annoying classmates are caught in a food fight at school, they're given a choice: suspension or yard duty. The decision is a no-brainer. Their two-week crash course in landscaping leads to the discovery of a weathered stone arch in the overgrown back yard. The arch isn't a forgotten lawn ornament but an ancient time portal from the lost continent of Atlantis.

Chosen by an Atlantean Magus to be Timekeepers--legendary time travelers sworn to keep history safe from the evil Belial--Amanda and her classmates are sent on an adventure of a lifetime. Can they find the young Robin Hood and his merry band of teens? If they don't, then history itself may be turned upside down.

Spice Up Tonight

with a terrific dish from my friend, author Holley Trent. And for dessert try one of Holley's delicious books. Take it away Holley!

This meatloaf spin-off has ground up tortilla chips. Its airier texture is due to rolling the meat rather than patting it into shape. This dish is a perfect substitution for pickier eaters, and the cheese in the middle adds a little something for the kiddos.

Holley’s Tex-Mex Meatroll
2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. mustard powder
½ tsp. cayenne pepper
½ tsp. ground black pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (can substitute Pepper Jack)
3 cups crushed corn tortilla chips
¼ cup mild salsa

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Mix meat, egg, and seasoning in a bowl.

On waxed or parchment paper, pat the meat mixture into a rectangle as wide as your loaf pan or slightly less wide than the width of your paper if you're baking on a cookie sheet.

Cover the surface of the beef with the tortilla chips. Just eyeball it. You don't need to use the full three cups - just make sure you have good coverage.

Spread the cheese over the top. Pretend you're building a pizza.

Take one end of the paper and roll the meat as if it were sushi, but don’t catch the paper in the roll. Gently tease the roll to the end and carefully transfer to a greased pan.

Pat the ends so they're rounded and the ingredients inside don’t fall out.

Brush the top of the loaf with salsa. Water it down a bit if doing so makes it easier to spread.

Cover with foil. Mold it against the roll a bit to provide structure to the meat holds its shape as it cooks.

About 45 minutes in—when the roll has firmed but not completely cooked—remove foil. Apply another brushing of salsa.

Bake until a thermometer reads 160°F.

Let the meatroll rest for at least ten minutes before cutting.

While your dinner is baking, check out my fun Christmas FREE READ Boughs of Halle only at Musa Publishing.

Ex-hipster Erin Posey is too cool for Christmas. But, when her mother announces she’s driving up to North Carolina to visit her prodigal daughter, Erin engages in a last-minute scramble to deck the halls of her bungalow. In a night rife with frustrations, a tree salesman named Halle takes pity on the frazzled school photographer and helps her get into the holiday spirit.

When the tree’s twinkle lights turn on, the magic Erin feels doesn’t have a thing to do with the joyous season. She knows she needs to mend her strained relationship with her mother, so once all the tinsel has gone on, she sends Halle on his way.

The handsome stranger has got quirky Erin pegged better than anyone she’s ever met. She wants him to return, but is her charm like mistletoe? Does the magic exist only when she’s up close, or will thoughts of her be enough to draw Halle back for a New Year’s kiss, too?

AND THE NOMINEES ARE...

Some of the finest books, authors, covers, and publishers in the industry are up for the annual awards from Love Romance Café . Dawn Roberto and her staff worked hard to select the contenders and lay out the voting procedures. A wise and seasoned author told me, "Chosen as a nominee is the honor" and I do believe she was correct.

I'm grateful and excited to be a part of this moment. My erotic novella PHOTO Op! is in the running for Best Contemporary Book 2013. This would not have happened without my amazing editor Helen Hardt and those two critique rascals who never let me get by with a thing, Melissa Bradley and Erica Dananay. A special thanks goes to the person who started this all and shoved me onto the right path, my mentor mystery writer Beth Anderson .

There are many close friends who are nominated this year. Three phenomenal authors who are also my Wenches of Words cohorts: Sharon Ledwith , Legend of the Timekeepers Best YA Book, and Sam Cheever Best Author and Declan Sands Blood-Hound Best Series. Another bud who has always been there when I needed her Clare London Best Cover. The other nominee friends are at the top of their genres Jane Dougherty The Dark Citadel Best YA Book, Desiree Holt Lock and Load Best Thriller/Suspense/Mystery, Selena Illyria Mate Not Wanted Best Erotic Romance Book. I am elated to add Musa Publishing BEST PUBLISHER, and they really are.

The excitement builds as the voting begins today. All 4000 plus members of Love Romances Café are eager to choose their favorites.

Congratulations to all the talented nominees and the best of luck to everyone!

It's Wednesday. So What's Cooking?

Tangy Curry! Now don't wrinkle your nose if you've never tried curry and have convinced yourself it's too spicy. My friend multi published author Vonnie Hughes is here to change your mind. The kitchen is all yours, Vonnie!

TANGY CURRY
2½ lbs of cubed cheap steak (it will be simmered for ages so cheap steak is fine)
2 finely chopped onions
1 chopped apple
2 chopped carrots
2 tablespoons of ordinary flour
Juice of half a lemon
2 tablespoons of golden syrup (light treacle)(corn syrup)
1 dessertspoon of mild curry powder
1 medium tin of tomato soup
1 small tin of pineapple pieces

Place the steak in a large pot. Add the onions, apple and carrots.

In a bowl mix the flour, lemon juice, golden syrup, curry powder and a little of the pineapple juice. Stir this flavored thickening and add to the meat in the pot.

Add the tomato soup and pineapple pieces.

Cook on a very low heat for two hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. (A little extra liquid may be needed. Water is fine).

Best served with rice and a tossed green salad.

Now while you have that 2 hour wait, how about a step back in time with an intro to one of my Regency novels?

When Alexandra Tallis sets free the attractive man her sister stupidly tried to hold captive, her actions lead not only to a love she never thought to find, but also to a horrific family secret that threatens that love.

When Alexandra Tallis discovers that her witless sister has imprisoned their father’s nemesis, Theo Crombie in their attic, she quickly frees him, fighting an unladylike impulse to keep him as her own special captive. Despite the brutal beating she receives from her father for her actions, Alexandra continues to yearn for the delicious Mr. Crombie even though she knows that nothing will ever come of her dreams.

Injured and shackled in a stranger’s attic, Theo unexpectedly discovers the woman of his dreams. But how can he pursue those dreams when her bizarre family’s complex relationships threaten the very foundation of his existence? Somehow Theo must find a way through this maze to claim his lady.

Vonnie Hughes is a New Zealander living in Australia. She loves animals and jogging. Vonnie writes Regencies and romantic suspense novels along with short stories. She is presently working on a romantic suspense, working title: Innocent Hostage and a Regency novella, working title: A Tale of Two Sisters.

Her earlier book Coming Home is about a soldier and a nurse, thrown together during the Napoleonic wars, who find more danger on their return to England than they ever did on the Iberian Peninsula.

The Second Son is actually a prequel to Coming Home . A second son, filled with angst, stands to inherit a title and property through the death of a brother he has always loathed and mistrusted. A young disabled woman teaches him how to find his self-respect and how to love.

Another Regency Historical, Mr. Monfort’s Marriage , has businessman Matthew Monfort inveigled into marrying an earl’s daughter. With good reason he loathes the ton, so his new wife needn’t think she’s going to win him over, even though she’s quite delightful…and intelligent…and sweet…However Verity shows him that not all members of the ton are idle layabouts and that he can do much good with his largesse and with—shock, horror—the unexpected and embarrassing title conferred on him by Prinny.

All of Vonnie’s books are available on Amazon and Musa Publishing .

Desperately Seeking an Alpha Male Blog Hop

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for popping in. Please meet David Stiefel – arrogant, sexy, and all male. David’s the hero from Heated Negotiations, Book One of Magnificent Men of Munich series. This book is Rated R.

BLURB:
Travel agency owner Teddi Howard is Hell in high heels when she jumps a plane to Munich. Her goal—strangle the German tour operator who reneged on their exclusive contract.

German businessman David Stiefel well knows the feeling of being screwed over and is resolved to avoid emotional attachments. This strategy has served him well, until his chance encounter with the enticing Ms. Howard.

EXCERPT:
His firm hands stroked her soft shoulders while he studied her face in the mirror. She was spellbound by his image—a potent, robust man whose touch was so very gentle.

“What do you see?” His long thick black lashes brushed against her cheek. Her heart pounded at their caress.

Hypnotized, she stared into the mirror and watched him pull one end of his bow tie loose, then remove the shirt stud at the base of his throat. The unknotted silk hanging just below his rugged jaw was the sexiest thing she’d ever seen. Heat spiraled through her and heaviness built between her thighs.

“I see a charming man and a woman acting like a fool.” Her eyelids fluttered shut to hide her embarrassment of wanting him so much.

“Nein, Theodora, I see a beautiful, sensitive woman with a lovely slender neck.” His index finger stroked her cheek, then glided down to caress her throat, a volley of shivers following in its path.

She stiffened just before want and need took control. She raised her head to meet his burning stare. Tonight, she would take control of her life and enjoy this man without any guilt.

“Shoulders that need to be kissed.” His lips did just that while his fingers released the zipper at the back of her dress. Whispered German words caressed her ear as the garment floated to the floor. His eyes skimmed her reflection and when they landed on her garter belt a feral sound ripped from his chest as if he’d been scorched by molten lava. His hand dipped lower and stroked the soft flesh above her stocking then hooked around the clip and gave it a tug. A devilish grin slowly separated his full lips.

She ached for his touch, his mouth, his tongue, anywhere, everywhere. Heat rushed low to the center of her body making her wet as she watched this epitome of masculinity tease her tender flesh.

“Full breasts begging to be stroked.” His warm fingers grazed along their sides and left a trail of heat wherever they fondled. A sheen of perspiration covered her as his sensual words and male scent enflamed her slick vagina to a need beyond any she had ever known. A moan escaped her as his butterfly kisses flitted along her neck and shoulders. She raised a hand to touch the thick hair that feathered against her ear.

“Pale nipples throbbing to be suckled.” The pads of his thumbs flicked over her pink skin and it pebbled. His voice was husky as he said, “I need to lick you, taste you, Theodora.”

Her hips rocked against him, encouraging him to fill her. But he ignored her movements. Instead, his determined fingers spanned her waist then lowered to splay over the sensitive area of her abdomen. His skilled touch sensuously transported her into a zone where there was no coherent thought.

She leaned back into him for support, her legs weak. His rock-hard length pressed into the small of her back, arousing her even more, as if that were possible. A tidal wave of anticipation flooded over her. Arching her back, she lifted her other arm to lace both hands into his thick hair. She thrust her breasts forward for more of his touch.

His hand slowly traveled up her body before he cradled both swollen breasts into one large palm. A thumb and middle finger fondled her sensitive nipples, causing her to moan and her pussy to throb.

ONE POT HOLDS IT ALL

from Sam Cheever

This recipe is so easy you'll want to make it time and time again. Throw all ingredients into one pot, even the uncooked Pasta. All ingredients cook along with the pasta. And the really cool thing, in my opinion, is that there’s nothing exotic here. This is all stuff I always have on hand!

No Strain Tomato Basil Pasta
12 ounces pasta
1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes with liquid (Get creative and use seasoned tomatoes!)
1 large sweet onion, cut in thin strips
4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2 large sprigs basil, chopped
4½ cups vegetable broth (Not low sodium)
½ tsp. red pepper flakes
2 tsp. dried oregano leaves
2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
Parmesan cheese for garnish

Put the pasta, diced tomatoes, onion, garlic, and basil in a large pot and add the vegetable broth.

Sprinkle the pepper flakes and oregano over the top and drizzle with the oil.

Cover the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook covered for about 10 minutes, stirring every couple of minutes.

Cook off most of the liquid, then season to taste with salt and pepper.

You’ll want to stir the pasta several times to distribute the remaining liquid.

Garnish with the Parmesan cheese.

And here's a little from my latest erotic romance to spice up your night.
