The King of Horror
When we learned Stephen King was going on tour it was an opportunity we didn’t want to miss. I mean…Stephen King!
It took almost eight hours to drive to Nashville, Tennessee, where our tickets were. His End of Watch tour was being held at the Ryman Auditorium and the line to get in wrapped around the building. We stood in the 100-degree weather waiting with the rest of the audience for entrance into the sold out show. Approximately 2400 people filled the auditorium.
He didn’t disappoint. For quite some time Mr. King entertained us with engaging stories from his youth and adult life, as well as details of his writing career. He talked about what it was like growing up in a small community, how his experiences influenced him, his failures, and his successes.

When we spilled out into the Nashville streets with our hardcover books in hand, the CMS Fest was still all around us. Before traveling home we made sure to take in the sites and listen to some excellent bands.

Retro 80s Summer
A friend recently told me of a summer mentality a neighbor of his adopted. She’d decided to have a retro 80s summer. And it worked!
She worked from home and, with the kids out of school during the day and providing constant interruptions, she decided to try a new approach to the usual stress-filled dog days of summer.
They’d sleep in, usually waking around eight-thirty. Lunch? No worries, take in a movie with a lunch of popcorn. The beach was another pastime they’d enjoy and really…who wouldn’t? Sunscreen? Eh… She wasn’t worrying about it. They had a bottle of sunscreen, if it was used or not, no stress.
At home the neighborhood was a playground and the kids were sent out to roam for an hour or two of freedom. It worked. The usual micromanaged days of camps, clubs, or classes passed by them without a care or worry. What they had was fun and relaxation.
