Blurb"God comes into every house in the form of a child."

Naked, helpless, powerless, wealth-less, illiterate and ignorant, newborns arrive happy, positive, full of smiles and love. Every child is unique and perfect. The world stops to comfort a crying child.

The well-dressed, independent, power-hungry, wealthy, educated and worldly-wise adults are imperfect, frustrated, bitter and stressed.

Yet, grown-ups teach children. The stressed mentor the stress-free. The unhappy correct the happy. The confused guide the wise.

Welcome to the world of Raghav Malhotra, a typical MNC drone. Haunted by a guilty past, our common man struggles to serve a thankless spouse, a condescending family and a ruthless boss.

Inevitably, Raghav's life collapses like a house of cards. Violence, whores, alcohol and drugs follow.

Till God himself arrives.

You've read many stories about motherhood transforming a woman. Now, follow Raghav on his self-enlightenment journey through the joys of fatherhood. Child/God is a riveting story of a thirty-five-year-old disciple learning the meaning of life from his six-month-old guru. Discover how Raghav's living God transforms his life - and yours.
 My Review

Child/God is a multidimensional story of Raghav. An employee of an IT firm, not-so brilliant in his school and college days, always compared with his studious, smart, and intelligent brother, getting married to a pampered, headstrong, stubborn girl, whom he himself spoils even more by mollycoddling, a wannabe writer. Frustrated, angry, and fed up with the life, Raghav assorts to several methods to overcome the depression of leading a meaningless life. His life gets a new meaning when a little cute baby boy enters his life to play the role of God himself. How Raghav's life changes afterwards is the thread of the story.
Being a seasoned writer's brother, it is more difficult to get acceptability to one's writing since his writing would be compared with his brother's , time and again. But, surprisingly or not author proved with his book that he is not in the industry to exploit a celebrity. Strong, touching story-line, captivating narration, compelling cliffhangers; the book has everything that makes a bestseller.
The book is huge for Indian standards. The page count is 351 but word count might be nearly one lac since the dimensions of the book is more than what we generally see. Hence a lazy reader might find it difficult to complete the book. Some of the unnecessary details could have been cut short. But it is an inevitable fact that the huge book never bored me as a reader.
The book had a lot of autobiographical elements or I felt so. Hence the first person narration was giving a feel that Ketan was talking not Raghav. The book can be categorized into multiplicity of genres like philosophical, parenting, self help, contemporary and many more. Raghav's character would make us wish if all fathers were like him.
An excellent blurb speak everything about the book. A lot of care is taken in character development. The plot is complicated but the narration is simple. Soon to be made into a movie, the book will be the next talk of the town.
I recommend the book to all readers who are looking for a book with substance, emotions, and  values.

About the author  Professionally, Ketan joined Satyam Computer Services (the company that Mr Ramalinga Raju made both famous and infamous) post his MBA from Narsee Monjee Institute in 2001. After a 1.5 year stint of trying to learn programming and Tamil, destiny finally took mercy on the young, frustrated North Indian and made Satyam show him little bit of the world – 2 years in Malaysia, 9 months in NZ and 4 years in Australia. About 2 years ago, he moved back to India. Currently he works as a regional sales manager at an MNC in Mumbai. Creative at heart, Ketan has done stints in Television (anchor, script writer) and Print (articles in national dailies) during his college days. Few years ago, he helped his brother script a Bollywood movie.

Blurb

Born in the lush mountains of Dalhousie in 1930, Shakuntala is a pampered child of a wealthy builder. On her wedding night she is gifted a secret to use wisely when the time comes.
From the green valleys of Dalhousie to a village in Punjab reeling under the communal violence of 1947; from the Delhi of 1950s with its intoxicating smell of freedom to the Delhi of 1970s soaked in the hippie culture; from the Delhi of 1984 smelling of burnt tyres to the Delhi of 90s raising its Frankenstein of urbanization, the cancerous secret breathes with her, infects her. It is accidentally passed down, hidden under insecurities and jealousies, locked in its meaninglessness and leaving a trail of ruin.
When her great- grandson accidentally discovers the secret in 2065, he is perplexed by the malice that flowed in his family's blood. Was it just the secret or his family would have destroyed itself even in its absence? Why was their love never greater than their unsaid expectations from each other?
My Review

Books from Indian authors are puppy romance. Is that the preset notion? Well, if that's the case, false ceilings will force us to stash our prejudices. A highly emotional, tragic drama in a family through generations will quench the thirst for something different and deep by the readers. For a first time author, Amit Sharma is quite matured, developed and well-read.

The storyline goes through several generations- from pre-independence era to the future. Multiplicity of genres without giving any feeling of loss. The narration exemplarily matches the level classics or the several award winning books. Though the readers will be at loss trying to join the dots initially, last two chapters wraps up well and the pieces fall in place perfectly. The historical events are linked seamlessly.

The readers might get confused at some areas, which in turn cause a drop in pace of the story. Author succeeded in maintaining the inquisitiveness in the reader, which is maintained throughout the story. Nevertheless, when the secret unravels, it doesn't keep up with how the whole build up is constructed.

Overall the book is highly recommended to the serious readers, who want something different yet enchanting. With a little more homework, it could have been one among the classics.

Interview with Amit Sharma, author of False Ceilings

Hi readers,

Today we have a talented writers the author of the most unique and accepted book of recent times- Amit Sharma

1.       What made you switch from IT to literature?
I haven’t switched actually. I still have my day job which puts food on the table. Writing turned from a hobby into a passion. I feel as if I am doing something meaningful with my life when I am writing. It is a very exhilarating feeling to do something that you love.
2.     How did you manage the transition from history to future in the book?
I did a lot of research to get the history right. It wasn’t just a single point in the history but I had to show the transformations in the characters and the cities during various decades. Using various pivotal moments in our history as turning points helped make the story more real and authentic.Future was all imagination. Seeing the advancements in technology, I chalked out how different our life will be in the coming decades. It was a very enjoyable process. A few of the things mentioned in the book like, 3D gaming and robots that look alarmingly like humans have already made an appearance.
3. Did you do any research?

I read a few books, online articles, talked to my parents, saw documentaries and made excessive notes for almost six months before I was confident enough to write the first line of the manuscript. The story begins in 1930, in the pre-independence era and touches many historical events. I amalgamated the story with our history and made a few events as the turning point in the life of the characters. The timespan of 1950s-1970s was something my parents helped me with. I had long discussions with them to get the lifestyle of that era right. The story takes place in Delhi and Dalhousie. I had to display changes both the places went through over the decades. It was a research filled with challenges and surprises. There is so much we don’t know; so much we ought to know.
4. How was your publishing experience?
The book was rejected by almost 15 publishers before Lifi accepted it, so, it was a very anxious phase of my life that lasted for 1.5 years. Then I waited in a queue for another 2 years before the book saw the light of the day. I wish things could have moved more quickly but that is how things stand.I finished my second book during this period, then completed the research work for the third and started writing it.
5. What are you working on at this moment?
My next book is almost finished. I will be sending it out for Beta Reading next month. Then I’ll pitch it.It’s a very modern story and spans eleven years. It’s about the journey of Sapna, a girl who belongs to a lower middle-class family living in Delhi; how she transforms from a naïve, simple-minded, college-going girl to the most influential, richest and powerful woman in the world. She has a gift that turns her into a Goddess; someone the world fears and prays to. Her power changes the course of the future but is she able to cope up with the sacrifices it demands? Or does the power consume her in the end? It’s quite different from my first book and I am hoping the readers will enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Blurb "The hardest day in an Engineering student's life is not the day he gets his result. It's the day he gets judged - Placement Day. Everything he has learnt and ignored throughout his four years of being in college comes back one final time to haunt him. But what if he had bigger problems that were linked to it? What if the same thing that helped him get to where he was, was keeping him from getting to where he wanted to go? Long story short, he fell in love."
My Review Another love story, like the name implies, is  just another love story. The protagonist, whose name is not mentioned throughout the book (I assume that it is the author himself) falls for a girl- Shwetha. He revolves around her like a love stuck teenager. After a happening love story, they break up. Why because he didn't pay heed to her while they passed by. Yes! quite a reason for a break up. The day after the break up, they are attending a job placement. the protagonist faces the final round with the strangest resume ever, which in turn changes his life forever.
The story will definitely appeal to the YA lovers, since it has all the flavors for a love story. Love, pain, action, humor(if you call it so). The story is simple, narration is vernacular. Lack of depth is the main drawback of the story. The reason why the protagonist falls in love with the girl, how the girl falls for him, how they break up are all extremely silly. Again and again it is proved that the new generation lacks any depth in relations and that their outlook of  life is nowhere near reality.
The book is recommended for the mass of readers who are looking for an easy breezy read.

About the author
"After writing his first poem at the age of 14, the author has had a wonderful journey. He began with pieces of writing pertaining just to love and later ventured into other genres. With a flair for entertaining people, he moved into speaking and the response was just as strong as it was for his writing. He is an engineer by qualification and dreams of becoming a writer by profession. He also has this weird affinity to the number three, being born on the third day of the month. Somewhere between his tenth short story and his thirtieth poem, he had this sudden urge to write something bigger. So, he began writing. With all his experience with relationships and heart-breaks, he turned to writing Another Love Story."

Parenting in the Age of Anxiety acknowledges that today’s generation is tormented by a number of issues exam stress, bullying, peer pressure, sexual uncertainty that can snowball into full-blown psychological conditions, from borderline personality disorders to anxiety and learning impairments. Added to this are specific early, emotionally fraught life experiences that demand coping skills, such as bereavement and adoption.
How should one help a child deal with a bullying in school? What should you do when your son is burdened with exam stress? How is a parent to deal with a depressed teen? Equally, is anxiety a two-way street, passed on from caregiver to child and vice versa?
Drawing from case studies, diary entries, letters and conversations, Parenting in the Age of Anxiety sensitively approaches each of the issues that distress growing children and offers valuable lifelines. This book reminds all guardians and nurturers to grant themselves the right to make mistakes and give their children the freedom to err and recover.

My Review
Parenting is always a complicated duty. If it's a duty,  obligation or sacrifice had always been  point of debate. Nevertheless, it has been an accepted fact that handling your kids through different stages of their life is a Herculean task. There had been umpteen number of books targeted at helping the parents . Yet the need for help has been never ending.

Parenting in the age of anxiety is a helping hand in tackling several issues faced by and from your child. Academic stress, bullying,  peer pressure, learning disability, borderline disorder, sexuality,  abuse, adoption, single parenting,  and finally parental anxiety are the topics touched.

Each chapter starts with a case study- letters or diary notes of parent's and kids about various issues and how a solution was reached. While these narratives are inspirational, the solutions cited are not quite directive. They were almost similar to the psychological advices we can get to read in practically every magazines these days. Still if you're a parent in trouble, you will be happy  that you selected the book since it wouldgive you the motivation to face the inevitable.

Meet Ganesh, the potbellied elephant-headed god, always accompanied by his faithful assistant, the rat. Known as the remover of obstacles, he is prayed to before every new beginning. But do you know why Ganesh has an elephant’s head? Or why he has only one tusk? And what is his connection with the waxing and waning of the moon?
In this fun retelling of the most popular stories associated with Ganesh, find the answers to these questions and more. Accompanied by beautiful illustrations that bring the stories alive, this book will appeal to every child and the child in all adults.

My Review

Writing Children's book seems to be an easy task but it is not as easy as it seems. One should think as a child. Put them in the child's shoes. It should be easily comprehensible yet money-worth.

Ganesh is one such book. The story of the cute little elephant god is sure to impress the children. Ganesh is always the favorite god of Indians.Hence the title itself is th attraction. The four stories How Ganesh lost his head, Ganesh loses a tusk, Ganesh versus Karthik and Ganesh curses the moon are the four titles. The four stories give a glimpse on different instances of 'Ganesh Charith.'

Illustrations by Tapas Guha adds to the attraction.  Some more stories could have been added to make the book worth the money spent. Yet I would not think twice before buying this book for my kids.

Everyone’s favourite Monkey God is back, in a delightful avatar! Beautiful illustrations, exciting games and activities and a fun and engaging narration add to the appeal of this retelling of Hanuman’s life. Join Hanuman on a rollicking journey from his childhood days when he tried to eat the Sun, to his helping Ram and Lakshman rescue Sita from Ravana’s clutches.
My Review

I love this book because my kids love it. Being a children's book, I gave it to my toddler and preschooler.  They were unprecedentedly hooked the book. In an era when even the parents are unaware of mythology, the book will be a great treasure to the kids. Kids are in love with the monkey god.
The story is crafted in such a way that kids are encouraged to read it. The book is nothing short of a 3D movie. More than the religious  aspect, it is the cuteness, bravery and righteousness of the monkey god that attracts the kids. Along with the story, there are several games and mazes which makes the book the perfect gift for the kids. The book will incite an attachment with the books at an age as early as two. It is the real 'paisa vasool' product.
The highlight of the book is the excellent illustration which is attractive, lively and positive. It is a perfect gift for your kid.

The dark nature of humanity comes alive when a criminal plan fails, and a chain of events leads to the grave conclusion of a vicious execution. With his naive eyes, adolescent Sam Winterfield watches his affluent parents die before his eyes at the hands of a stranger.
His innocence quickly becomes his greatest obstacle as he sets out to uncover the identity of the man behind the atrocity but with each step towards his goal, he finds himself slipping away from his previous self. Within London, he faces the most sadistic and strange men, each with their own twisted motivations, just so that he may have a chance at retribution.
Into The Abyss is a dark tale that follows the intersecting lives of nine people as they cross paths with Sam and his lust for revenge.
My Review
Thrillers is one the most difficult genre to pull off with conviction. The pace and suspense are quite difficult to go hand in hand. To maintain the suspense throughout the story is a task that can be fulfilled by only a highly talented writer.

Into the abyss cannot be summarised into a one dimensional crime/investigative story. It is a club of several thrilling stories interlaced to converge. Like with a collections of short stories, Into the abyss also has a set of exemplary areas as well as disappointing moments. While the readers are hooked to the murder mystery of Winterfield and his wife, new entrants in the cast take the limelight away.

The story has an S curve in terms of interest. Narration is stupendous. While the UK background helped in the twists, author could have adopted an Indian background. Instead of encroaching the already reaped area, author could have pulled the story convincingly with a Indian flavour.

Unlike the general trend of having huge thriller books, author tried to keep it crisp and precise. While it helped in maintaining the pace of the story, some areas remained incomplete leaving the reader wanting more and more.

Overall the book is interesting but a little more care could have been given on connecting the links seamlessly.

Readers fell in love with Sneha and Nandini, two best friends who stuck to each other through heartbreak and joy in the bestselling novel, Right Fit Wrong Shoe. Now they are back in a delightful sequel that follows the two women as they begin the next phase of their lives in Mumbai.

After a failed marriage, Sneha, a single working mom, has no time, or inclination, for love. She resists every matchmaking attempt made by the overzealous Nandini, married to industrialist Aditya. But then the past intrudes in the form of the gorgeous and rich, Nikhil, who brings along Gayatri to break-up her ex-fianc, Adityas marriage. Sneha enlists Nikhils help to salvage the situation. But how does she even talk to a man who clearly loathes her? As Nikhil and Sneha try to grapple with their egos and combustible chemistry, love blossoms.

Wrong Means Right End, an exuberant story about love and friendship, is filled with surprises and a wicked twist at every turn.

My Review
Hatred is the new love for authoress Varsha Dixit. Like the protagonists in the prequel, this books also takes the readers through the love-hate relationship. The incidents in story are more happening and engaging when compared to the sequel. When the Chauvinistic Aditya irritates the readers in the prequel, angry yet soft hearted Nikhil is good to visualize.

Sneha's single mother life is quite inspiring. The headstrong and determined woman she is, her life is sure to impel the female mass.

Sneha's character, which was in the back seat in Right fit Wrong shoes, is the protagonist in the sequel. Nandini's character is involved with deserved importance.  The relationship issues of Sneha is not shown in the first book, but in the sequel, Sneha's comes as a single mother. Much details into her dark past is not given. The fights between the lovers or to be lovers seemed repetitive. The pace of the story is also not steady.

Overall the sequel is one step ahead. Looking forward for the third part.
