Lights! Scalpel! Romance! By Jas Kohli

CLICK HERE TO BUY THE BOOK

There have been many books with the doctors' life as the background. Primarily the books could be categorised as out and out doctors book or romance in the background of doctors' story. Lights! Scalpel! Romance! is one such book that balances the doctors story with romance.

Nipun joins Nirog hospital wih a lot of dreams and expectation but his feeling get hurt when he learns that the junior doctors are taken for a ride. The Dean of the hospital Dr. Ujjwal is ruthless and yet highly skilled and brilliant. Nipun tries to be in his good books with a little bit of sycophany but all his expectations topples over when every effort of his fails. He tries his luck in romance with Nishta but his effort in love also fails miserably. Nonetheless Nipun doesn't lose heart and tries again and again. To make it more complicated Rishi comes to picture. What is Nipun's futute? The book gives the answer to the question.
Lights! Scalpel! Romance! invites readers to become a part of the fun side of hospital life, where a surgeon’s routine is akin to driving in a Formula One race every day.

The book is not merely about Nipun. It is also about Dr. Anuroop a.k.a Candy who tries to outgrow Dr. Ujjwal, again to fail miselrably. The book is also about the risks surgeons put themselves in front off. For instance, before operating an AIDS patient, the have to wear multiple gloves to avoid infection through any cuts.
The metaphors used by the author are all interesting. However some of them failed to hit the bull's eye and some failed miserably.
The book is a lighthearted reading experience. Nonetheless the author gets the readers to think deeeply about the challenges faced by the doctors. The vernacular narration makes sure that even the beginners could enjoy the book. The book is an easy read over a coffee.

A STORY BETWEEN THE LINES BY SANTHOSH SIVARAJ

CLICK HERE TO BUY THE BOOK
If story between the lines is to be described in a one liner, it would be "Philisophical Romance". The story of Adi and Nila is the story of everyone's lives- love, loss, pain, ressurection. The book is all about the reality of life.

Adi meets Nila during one of his journeys. While walking through the jungle he comes across this bubbly, brave, and go-getter girl whose philosophy in life is very simple. Adi falls for this wonderful girl and decides to marry her. The life with Nila is the most unforgettable time for Adi. But his happiness doesn't last long. Adi and Nila meets with an accident and Adi loses his memory and Nila. Adi ends up having retrograde amensia post his accident and he is unable to recollect anything about his last moments with her. Unable to fathom what happened to Nila, Adi sets out to find out. His journey further is the crux of the book.

Can Adi’s journey lead to his destination? Or was the journey a destination by itself?

Adi and Nila's story unveils along with Adi's journey. The switch between present and past is done seamlessly. The highlight of the book is the authors foray into philosophy on the context of a fictional romance and suspense. The style of narration makes the book standout.

The budding of romance between Adi and Nila was a bit far fetched. It could have been developed in a believable fashion by taking time. The book becomes the most interesting when Adi reaches Syria in search of Nila. Author has given a glimpse of the gruesome reality in Syria.

The USP of the book is the attempt of the author to convey the life's lessons without any boring monologues. Author had carefully kept the philosophy in line such that it doesn't overpower the storyline and the storyline is deftly merged with the philosophy that the message is comveyed with clarity.

CLICK HERE TO BUY THE BOOK
India is a country with the largest immigrant ratio. Whereever you go, you will find an Indian there. There is not even a single country in the world that is inhabited by an Indian. Hence a book on living abroad is the most useful for the NRIs or to be NRIs.

The author of the book is an NRI himself, settled in Singapore. He along with 34 other NRIs share their experiences about living abroad. Once we migrate to a country, it is inevitable that we aquaint ourselves with the culture their.

When dreams are fulfilled, and the alarm goes off, should you keep snoozing it, or should you traverse from one dream to another, a dream within a dream? Explore these untold secrets and embark on your own journey of a lifetime!

Book is a must have guide for all the people who are planning to migrate to the 12 countries mentioned in the book. Author has started off with the history of the place, colonisation etc so that culture there could be established in detail. Author has touched all tangible topics like culture, food habits, etiquettes and what not. The books will undoubtedly clarify your doubts about starting a new life in a new country. The anecdotes of 34 other contributors is informative, quirky as well as touching.

Thirty-four people from twelve countries around the world joined the author to share the untold secrets of living abroad.

Special mention needed for the information about Canada. Since Canadian Passport has the most value in the Middle East, many Indians tend to go there, get the passport and come back. Canada is just a representative country. Apparently the information regarding all the 12 countries is worth the time and money invested on the book.

The book is indeed a non-fiction but the life experiences of other contributors make it interesting. It is a brilliant step by the author. The USP of the book is that it is entertaining and informative and hence it could be enjoyed by not only the people who are migrating to other countries but those who are planning to stay in India as well.

SINGING GURU BY KAMLA K KAPUR- REVIEW

CLICK HERE TO BUY THE BOOK
Guru Nanak is not unknown to the common people primarily becuase he is the technical founder of the religion Sikhism that has grown so much so that it is literally impossible to see a country or a land without Sikhs. Nonetheless the masses are unaware of the great deeds of the first Sikh. Kamla K Kapur, through the book Singing Guru brings to the readers the anecdotes of the Guru's magic. Several instances are aweinspiring.

From the best-selling author of Ganesha Goes to Lunch and Rumi’s Tales from the Silk Road comes an original novel about the life and travels of Guru Nanak, a musician, enlightened thinker, and one of the most beloved figures in eastern spirituality.

The ball gets rolling when Mardana, a confidante and follower of Guru, due to arrogance or ignorance, decides to break ties with Guru and start his life himself. Mardana wakes up to see that he has transformed into a goat and lives along with other goats. The revelation shocks him to no ends and he regrets his decision. He starts talking about his Guru and his greatness. One by one he narrates the incidents that prove the superhuman powers of Guru Nanak. Right from the birth of Guru, Mardana tells the other goats how this ordinary human being grows to God like position.

Notwithstanding the God like image, Guru Nanak tells his followers over and over again about the power of the God almighty and asks them to shed their Egos and submit everything to him. The last part of the book is about what happens to Mardana further and how his life changes.

The Singing Guru includes moral tales without being proselytizing

The book is a magical experience. For the readers who belong to another religion, the books is a fresh experience. The book is indeed a tribute to the great human being. Nonetheless the book could not be counted as the book about Guru Nanak. Mardana is the protagonist of the tale. The book is about how Mardana looks at Guru Nanak. A little more detailed account of the formation of Sikhism and their religious practices could have been added.

On a different dimension, the book is informative as well. The illustration about Rabad and Guru Nanak's music is a new information.

Supercop of Aryavrat by Mithilesh Kumar

The tales of Lord Krishna are know to everyone. We have seen numerous series and heard many stories of the little Krishna. Also we have heard and read about Krishna in Mahabharata especially during the Kurukshetra war. But we never got to read a book that is actually the biography of Krishna. We have Bhagavata but that's not accessible to everyone and also since it's huge, it would be exhausting to read the whole book.
Mithilesh Kumar, through his book Supercop of Aryavrat brings to the readers a whole book which summarises the life of Lord Krishna.
Mithilesh Kumar spins a tale in which love and romance blossom while the fiercest of battles are being fought, treachery and malevolence raise their ugly heads time and again, alliances are forged, friendships are tested, unlikely events happen and the ‘SuperCop’ manages it all with panache.

The plot takes off with the battle in Dwarka and how Balram and Krishna helplessly face the death of millions of Yadavas. Many of the readers are unaware of the scenario and hence it would be a new experience. Further the plot takes us to the birth of Krishna. The curse by Narada, Kamsa's atrocities, how Krishna teaches Yashodha. From there a detailed yet concise account of Krishna's life takes off. Deliberately or not, author has kept the narrative simply and easily comprehensive to the point of being vernacular.
The story of Pandavas , Kauravas and that of the war is portrayed from Krishna's perspective. How Krishna is caught between accusations is a new angle in the whole tale. At some points there is a seeming confusion between the contemporary narration, and traditional. For instance, the princess is addresses as Rajakumari while Kunti is addressed as Auntie by Krishna. The climax sums up why the beginning of the story took place but it could have been extended to the point where Krishna bids adieu to the materialistic world.

“Do you think you are the SuperCop of Aryavrat?”

The title could have been different because the term " Supercop of Aryavrat" gives the impression of a futuristic science fiction wherein the book is indeed a historical fiction.
Overall the book is an engaging read.

DON ROBERTO'S DAUGHTER BY CONNOR ROYCE- REVIEW

Don Roberto's Daughter Natasha is a book that could be counted under different genres. It is indeed a romance fiction but a literary fiction as well. Author has indeed done thorough homework.

Natasha leaves Mexico and comes to Texas. She starts her life afresh despite the language barrier. She means Sean who knows English only. It's interesting to see how they aquaint with each other despite the language barrier. The spark at the first is conveyed with the intensity. Despite the attraction, the fact that they took it slow, make the book relatable and a hence the depth in the relation between Sean and Natasha is established with conviction.

This romance is portrayed on the rich tapestry of two vibrant cultures. Texas and Mexico come alive while a young woman tries to rediscover the God of her youth - Before it's too late.

When Natasha shifts back to Mexico, the pain of separation could be felt since the attachment was already established. Now comes Don Reberto. Despite the title character Don Roberto was over shadowed by Sean and Natasha. The characters and sequences are so realistic that the readers would be left wondering if this is a real story, especially when the cover image portrays real people and not the models.

Natasha and Sean's wedding sequence is interesting to watch. The merge of two cultures and the confusions are quite interesting to read. Nonetheless the sequence was dragged tad bit more than necessary.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT- SUPERCOP OF ARYAVRAT BY MITHILESH KUMAR

BlurbPublished by : AUTHORS UPFRONTPrint edition available on: Amazon India | Flipkart | Amazon UK | Amazon USA
eBook available on Amazon globally
“Do you think you are the SuperCop of Aryavrat?”
Balram’s words continue to haunt a helpless Krishna, as he watches the Yadav clan go on a rampage. The year is 3102 BC. Krishna lies all alone in a forest and resurrects in his mind the events of his adventurous life.

His venturesome journey began in the cradle itself. From his childhood escapades to the thrills of his youth, the eternal charmer dazzled hundreds of women and later became the ‘go to man’ of the entire populace of Aryavrat.

His life meandered from Gokul to Dwarka, and from Pushkar to Assam until the great war happened. Could he have prevented it altogether? Did it change the course of Krishna’s life? Maybe.

Mithilesh Kumar spins a tale in which love and romance blossom while the fiercest of battles are being fought, treachery and malevolence raise their ugly heads time and again, alliances are forged, friendships are tested, unlikely events happen and the ‘SuperCop’ manages it all with panache.
