October 4 on a material and thought train east:

Also: where so many social movements in the west falter (I am critiquing in part occupy) is that the struggle of the people is located in desire so there is no subject. As Sepie/GW noted: appropriation is a problem then when there is no history, no ontological study and, for want of better word, elevation to status of what we have held as valid knowing coming from the academy.such attacks on power are very easily co-opted because they are not strategically essential but just more individualism. It takes work to really oppose. Study of history and self and relationships and all of it ongoing. That is what has to be… spoon fed and sweetened. I think magic does this. OR, whatever way we think of it. I am thinking of magic as: The mind/body rational/spirit split: bad ! BUT the recourse is not so simply put them together. I think of pot for this. Because of law and capitalism weed became about THC because that is what gets folks the most feeling. So most strains that exist now are v high THC - whereas it used to be, in 60s eg, folks took the whole plant and just ground up all of it and leaves etc (first hand knowledge thanks evil stepfucker!). So, now we have split CBD and THC apart. BUT w legalization the market is a flurry w CBD - in california and colorado it is the legitimate cover for the want to use cannabis. There is a rush to put THC back w CBD - so products are coming out where they take THC (purified) and CBD (purified) and put them together. The problem is : it is the whole plant. There are thousands of things in there, other compounds of cbda and so on and other unknowns that are lost. It is more than putting the two refined things back together.tl;dr: We have lived a long time w mind split from body and rationality split from spirit. So they are refined and made so… potent. According to $$ and power. Entire semiotic systems entrenched around them, disciplines etc.We cannot just put them back together. Because, over all this refinement and time we lost … we don’t even know.THAT … THAT is where ‘magic’ comes in. It is all the missing bits, that using strategic essentialism and history and self-investigation we need to gather and go a piece of the way with here and there dropping and picking up as we go, endlessly hoping to set of trophic cascades of others doing the same and coming together to compare notes.           WHAT IS THE WORD FOR THIS it exceeds the words i have … it is not wholeness simply or magic for me because.
