What a Girl Wants

Reviews

Excerpt from Home Again

What did she really want?  More sex was the first thing that came to mind.  Oh man, sex with Mike had been incredible, and it wasn’t just because she had been having a particularly long dry spell.  Allie had spent the last week reliving their afternoon encounter, imagining his hands, his tongue, his – Allie blushed and busied herself behind the bar trying to think about something, anything else, but it was no use.  Her body ached to feel his touch again, but it was so much more than just the sex.  She found that she really missed him, being with him, seeing his twinkling, green eyes and his cheeky grin.  Allie Daniels, you are in so much trouble.

Mmmmm Strawberries

NowOnKU

Excerpt from Home Again

Allie watched as Mike bit into the tart.  His eyes widened, then closed for a second or two as he savoured the sweet, creamy treat.  “Oh, wow.  This is so good.”  Mike grinned and licked the corner of his mouth to get a bit of strawberry topping that was stuck there, before taking another bite.  Allie stared, mesmerized by his sensual mouth.  When he paused to take a swig of his milk, his eyes grinning at her, Allie blinked and looked away, embarrassed at getting caught daydreaming.  It was just that even his mouth was sexy.  She rushed and took a bite of her own tart.

When she dared to look at Mike again, his grin widened.  “Uh, you’ve got a little something…” He gestured at the corner of his own mouth.

Allie licked her lips, smacking them together.  “That better?”

“No,” replied Mike.  With a frown, Allie reached up to wipe the corner of her mouth with her finger.  She moved to suck her finger clean when Mike grabbed her wrist.  Their eyes met and Mike smiled mischievously.  He guided her hand to his mouth and delicately sucked the tip of her strawberry covered finger, caressing it with his tongue.  Allie’s breath caught in her throat as a shiver ran down her spine.  “Delicious,” Mike said with a grin.  “The tart was good too.”

You Can Go Home Again

Home Again ebook

Excerpt from Home Again

“Oh, oh.  Don’t look now…” Becky cast a furtive glance across the bar.  “But that sexy cowboy has been watching you all night and now he’s heading over here.”

“What?”  Allie looked over to where Becky was now staring.  “Oh, that’s just Mike.”  She picked up a mug and started to dry it, trying to act casual.

Becky turned back to eye her suspiciously.  “Mike?”

“He’s the new vet working with Doc Mundy.”

“And?”  Becky drummed her fingers on the bar.

“And what?”  Allie tried her best to school her expression.  “He’s a nice guy.”

“A nice guy?  A nice guy?” Becky looked exasperated.  “That’s all you can say about that prime piece of beefsteak?”  She shook her head.  “Allie Daniels, you’re holding out on us.”  She glared at Allie suspiciously.

“I am not….now hush.  Here he comes.”

Luck of the Irish

happy st pats

Well, hoist a green beer and kiss me, I’m Irish. It’s St. Patrick’s Day, the one day of the year where EVERYONE seems to be Irish.  Although, Emme doesn’t sound particularly Irish, there is a bit of Irish in me and I have to admit to a fondness for all things Celtic. I guess that’s why the two main characters of the Harry Russo Diaries have Celtic names.

In fact, Harry’s family, despite the less than Irish last name (Gran married an Italian? There’s got to be a story there) all have Celtic names.  There’s Gran, whose name is Aislin (pronounced ‘Ash-lin’) and Harry’s mom’s name was Deirdre, another traditional Irish name.  Of course Harry, whose real name is Angharad, also has a very Celtic name (although it’s more Welsh than Irish). Salvador even comments on it in Dead and Kicking. And let’s not forget our favourite growly police detective Cian (pronounced ‘Kee-an’) Nash.  He’s a handsome Irish rogue, if ever there was one.

DK small version coverExcerpt from Dead and Kicking:

“So, do tell me Miss Harry Russo, how does a lovely, young lady such as yourself come to be called Harry?”  Salvador looked at me with reappraising eyes.  “Surely it must be short for something?  Harriet perhaps?  Although in truth, I don’t think that is much better.  No, something else then.  Hermoine?”

“It’s Angharad, but please, everyone calls me Harry.  I – ”

“Angharad!  How delightful.  You never hear the old names anymore.”  He turned to look at Nash.  “Why Cian, we have another Celt in our midst.” He laughed heartily like it was some great joke then raised his glass.  “Slainte! Salud!”

A Deal with the Devil

Awesome UF

Excerpt from Tooth and Claw

I was in hell.  Surely I must have died and I was in one of the nine circles of hell, the one where sinners go and have to sit through endless petitions from long-winded immortals who thought the small print on a legal contract was scintillating.  I was actually sitting in Dante’s Inferno, the nightclub, so the comparison was appropriate.

It was the night of my weekly visit to the Magister.  As an added bonus tonight, for some reason Salvador decided that I should accompany him while he held an audience with his vampire subjects.

I should have known that Salvador had something special in store, when Henry, the limo driver that picked me up each week, arrived with a familiar white box tied with a blood red bow, a sure sign that Salvador had been shopping for me again.  Since it was now part of our new agreement, I had no choice but to accept it.

I actually liked today’s selection, not that I hadn’t liked the previous McQueen dress.  I just wasn’t used to wearing clothes that cost more than three times my former monthly rent.  I didn’t have a clue how much this dress cost, probably not as much as the McQueen, but I’m sure it was up there, judging from the pearl and crystal embellishment that covered it.  The dress itself was an Alice & Olivia in white silk.  It had a high neck with a flare silhouette, the skirt coming to about mid-thigh.  The reverse cut out back left more bare skin than I was comfortable with when dealing with vampires, but I could live with it.  Or, at least I hoped I could.

So far, I had managed to keep from ruining it, like I had the last dress Salvador gave me.  And that was despite the fact that I had to take down a bitchy vampire intent on tearing out my throat.

Harry’s Adventure Continues

26846386

Excerpt from Tooth and Claw

I love churches.  There is something almost magical about them.  I don’t mean my kind of magic, I just mean something that makes them feel special.  Maybe it’s the calm and hushed voices, the reverence they make you feel.  Whatever the case, St. Anthony’s, with its gleaming stain glass windows, was one of my favourite churches in the city.

I was here for a funeral.  Well, I wasn’t actually here to attend the funeral; I was working.  Often, we get an order to provide flowers for a funeral service that the family would then like transported to the site of internment.  It meant I had to hang around until the end of the service and grab the flowers, then drive them to the cemetery.  We had been so busy lately, I had actually hired a delivery guy, but he was out making deliveries across town, so I was working this one.

Mourners were slowly beginning to trickle in and find seats.  I was standing to the side in one of the small chapels off the main nave, trying to be discreet and watching the ghost of the recently departed pace back and forth in front of his own coffin.  At least it wasn’t an open coffin.  I really don’t get that.   Why would you want to stare at a dead guy?  Did you need proof he was dead or something?

Harry Can Take Care of Herself

DOA

Excerpt from Dead and Kicking

…I crept as quietly as I could, but it was pretty much a given that I couldn’t hide from a vampire’s amped up hearing or sense of smell.  When I reached the end of the wall dividing the hall and the kitchen, I started to peek around the corner only to be abruptly grabbed and thrown against the wall.

“Gaak!”  I said.  Hey, you try talking when a six foot goon with the strength of a vampire has his arm cross your windpipe.

Tomas had pinned my knife hand as well as my throat.  He grinned at me smugly.  I could see Salvador lounging unconcerned across the room.  My vision began to blur from the lack of oxygen as I let my knees give out a little, shifting more of my weight onto his arm.  Surprised, he loosened his grip enough that I was able to take a rasping breath.  I quickly brought my knee up to his groin as hard as I could.  It was satisfying to know that whatever he was, he still felt it when he got one in the ‘nads.  Tomas let go of my arm and I slid down the wall.  Unwilling to hope that a shot to the junk was enough to keep him down, I followed through with a quick punch to his throat.  He fell to one knee and I sprang away…

What are you waiting for?

Excerpt from Dead and Kicking:

…The basement of the club was a warren of dark, narrow hallways lined with doors behind which, who knew what was happening.  Unfortunately the throbbing beat from the dance floor above wasn’t enough to drown out some of the sounds filtering through the odd door, so I had a pretty good idea of what was going on behind at least some of them.

A door abruptly opened as we were walking past and I caught a glimpse inside, confirming my suspicions.  We were in an S&M sex club.  A few steps later, another door opened and a tall, blonde vampire wearing 5-inch, lace up platform ankle boots stepped out into the hall.  She pulled a gauzy robe on over her black, patent leather corset.

“Now you be a very good boy Murray and wait there for me.”  She tapped the end of a riding crop against her black leather glove.  “You know what happens when you are naughty.”  She turned and saw me, raising an appraising eyebrow.  “Come to play, Kitten?” she purred, reaching out with the end of the riding crop to stroke my cheek.

I flinched away, not wanting it to touch me and she laughed.  I turned and looked her in the eye and it was her turn to flinch.  “Not unless you want me to snap that thing in half and stake you through the heart with it, Sweetheart.”  I smiled sweetly and her eyes widened in surprise.  Her face twisted into a snarl and she took a step towards me.

Stefan put a hand against her chest, giving her a little push backwards.  “Not now Simeen, this one’s not for you.”

Simeen threw me a contemptuous look and then turned with a flourish.  Her robe billowed behind her like a cape as she stalked off down the hall.  The cheeks of her bare ass jiggled as she walked.  It kind of ruined the whole effect…
