Happy Book Birthday to Evil’s Unlikely Assassin
Today is the release of Evil’s Unlikely Assassin! The book of my heart!
Here’s a short teaser…
Chapter One
Tonight’s job had me sitting in a shadowy corner of a dead-end dive watching the unfortunate, the hopeless, and the degenerates. Had I known this is how I’d be spending my one hundred and seventy-third birthday, I would have called in sick.
An aging cocktail waitress hustled to over-serve society’s misfits. An ex-con, a dealer, and an addict pissed their lives away at the far end of the bar. A trio of prostitutes circled the room, their knock-off stiletto’s clicking on the wooden floor. And a single cockroach scurried for cover before being squashed.
How would the humans feel about me, the vampire, hiding in their shadows?
One of the battered bar stools toppled, throwing its occupant to the filthy concrete. The man, in a faded red and black flannel shirt, picked himself up off the floor. Dingy jeans slid down his hips, revealing a pair of boxers far past the expiration date for a wash. He bumped and weaved his way through the crowd, ignoring the spilled drinks and curses he left in his wake, and cut a crooked but determined path right to my table.
He collapsed into the booth next to me, blocking my only chance at escape. “How’s ’bout a drink?”
I wrinkled my nose at what had to be three days’ worth of sweat and grime, raised my bottle and sloshed the liquid from side to side. “Still nursing this one.” I focused on a faded picture of the Blues Brothers nailed to the wall and hoped he’d take the hint. A sharp tap on my shoulder told me this guy was either clueless or didn’t give a shit. My money was on clueless.
“What’s your name, sexy?”
Oh how I wanted to ignore his question, but the last thing I needed was Mr. Drunk and Stupid to cause a scene and blow my cover. “Alexis.”
His grease-coated fingers played “Get the Buggy” up my arm. I slapped them away before they got past my elbow. “How’s ’bout we get to know each other better?” He gave me a lopsided wink and ogled my breasts.
When he looked at me, he saw what every other human did, a twenty-three year old, petite brunette with large, light blue eyes. But if he leaned in close, he would see what lurked below the exterior, something sinister and scary, with sharp fangs and a deadly personality.
I placed my finger over the throbbing vein on his wrist, tempted to sink my fangs in and make him regret hitting on me, but I settled for a hastily spoken, “Not interested.”
He nudged deeper into the booth, his arm snaking its way across my back, until his hand settled on my shoulder. “Bet I can change your mind.”
Bet I could eat you before you can remove that dirty appendage.
My inner vampire, the unwanted passenger that shared my body, who I lovingly called Eddie, spoke up, always hoping I would give in and reward him with the human meal he craved. Every night I let him starve.
To help celebrate it’s release, I am going to give away a $10.00 Amazon gift card. Just comment on this post saying “Happy Book Birthday.” The winner will be chosen at random!

Fun Lines Friday
I’m a fan of many genres, I’m not even sure there’s one I would turn away from…on one condition.
There’s some humor in the story.
There’s a quote that I love from Joss Whedon. It kind of sums up what I love about writing, movies, and a good tv show.
So, when I’m reading, I don’t mind being taken on an emotional rollercoaster, as long as at the end I get some relief from the sadness, and can suck up my tears with a good laugh.
That being said I would like to devote Friday’s to funny lines. Either my own, or ones I’ve read.
This Friday comes from the amazing Jeaniene Frost and her book Halfway To The Grave.
“You’re not a woman,” he said finally. “You’re the Grim Reaper with red hair!” – Bones, Halfway to the Grave.

Book Covers I LOVE
I’m a judger. Like a serious judger. When it comes to books, if the outside package doesn’t do it for me, I’m less likely to pick it up and look inside.
Yes…I judge a book by it’s cover.
I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorites with my readers. Let you look at a little bit of pretty, and maybe introduce you to some new authors while I’m at it.
Let’s get started…
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas.
I adore this cover. The color, the illustration. The small hints to the story inside.
Book three in the series, but a must read for any fans of Urban Fantasy. If you want a can’t-put-down read then go grab a copy of A Court of Thorn and Roses. A start down the path of some great stories.

Snarky Snippet
I write sex. I write Supernatural Sizzle. But I also write snark. Lots and lots of snark.
Enjoy today’s snarky snippet!!
And just for fun here is one of my own little bits of snark from one of my books…
“Reaper was a tank in tennis shoes and camo pants. Two hundred and forty pounds of hard-earned muscle. All it took was one look and a sensible person peed their pants and scrambled to get away. I’m not sensible. I’m not human either.” – Evil’s Unlikely Assassin

The reviews are in…
[image error]And even though I was a bit worried about what readers would say about Pierced By Venom, it seems they are loving my attempt at dark and intense.
“A captivating story that shows survival, love, and of course a little paranormal! This is the second story of the Redeeming Cupid series and continues with Grayson’s sister, Gia. It was so hard to read about the pain she had to endure – her husband being shot by her ex-boyfriend, being abducted by said ex, and the knowledge she was going to be forced into drugs and prostitution. What was more inspiring was seeing that her love for Christopher (husband) could stand the trials and help her through the Hells she is traveling through in the story. Each main character became a little more complex and was able to grow through her travels. It shows the reader that the blame does not always fall on one person, but that the choices you make shape your future.
I enjoy paranormal love stories and this one definitely fits the bill! I can’t wait to see what Cupid is up to next.
-Amazon 5 Star review
“This book had a bit of darkness and an intensity I wasn’t expecting. Having gone through what she did and come out stronger was something to look up to. I loved her sarcasm even in the face of something evil and sinister. It even had me snorting out a few laughs. I highly recommend this one!”

Happy Book Birthday to Pierced By Venom
[image error]Pierced By Venom officially came out to the world yesterday! I have a Valentine’s Book Baby!
While I love the story of Gia and Chris, it is so different from Struck By Eros that I have worried that readers who loved the lightheartedness of Eros would find Pierced By Venom a bit too dark. Can you say author anxiety?
The vast difference between the two books comes from the myths they are based on. Struck By Eros is retelling of the myth of Apollo and Daphne, a tragic story, but one that could handle a retelling with humor and plenty of snark. Pierced By Venom is a modern day retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. There is nothing lighthearted or humorous about that myth. It’s tragic with a capital TRAGIC! In fact, taking Gia and Chris through hell and giving them a HEA at the end was a twist all of it’s own.
Two very different books that belong to the same world. I guess you can say I like to make my readers wonder if I am a dark writer or a funny writer.
But….
The first review came in this morning, a review from someone who doesn’t actually know me and read Struck By Eros. They loved it!
5 Stars on Amazon –
“A captivating story that shows survival, love, and of course a little paranormal!”
I can officially remove the knife from my wrist and get working on book 3, Pricked By Thorns!
