Networking - The Crenshaw Family

Join my family as we discuss the success principle of networking. Together, my kids and I discuss the importance of networking and how it impacts long-term success.

We explore the different scenarios where you can network, how to be genuine in your intentions, and what not to do, as well. And then, we share ways to commit to new opportunities to meet people and expand our network.

Action Principle

Change your perspective on networking. Instead of worrying about who you already know at an upcoming event, focus on the potential for meeting new people. ACTION: Commit to attending a networking event and focus on the excitement of meeting new people.Be curious. When meeting new people, go into it with a mindset of giving first. Ask questions and be genuinely interested in getting to know others. ACTION: Use the guest list to research attendees beforehand so you can ask better questions and make genuine connections.

The Fearless Justice Advocate, Shelley Winner

Hear the story of how Shelley Winner overcame drug addiction and incarceration to become a number one B2B sales executive for Microsoft. She found strength in relationships and took every opportunity to turn her life around. In this episode, you’ll hear how Shelley pushed past her insecurities and achieved success she had never imagined possible. Learn from Shelley’s story and choose which action will help you move forward in your journey.

Action Principles

Pick one to do this week:

Look for potential. Instead of seeing someone for their past, focus on their potential for growth. ACTION: Help someone reach their potential by offering guidance or mentorship.Don’t allow emotions to rule you. Especially fear, which will create doubt and insecurities in your mind. ACTION: Try something new, even if you’re afraid of failure.Embrace the power of storytelling. When you tell a story, you create a connection and emotion around whatever you’re selling. ACTION: Ask yourself how to turn something into a story. Consider hiring ex-cons. If you’re in a position to hire others, give those with a criminal background a chance. Don’t lower the bar, but if everything else is a good fit, don’t turn them away solely on their past.  ACTION: Change your HR policy to consider those with a criminal past without lowering your standards for talent and values.

The Sage Entrepreneurship Mentor, Mike Blumenfeld - Part 2

In this episode, part two of a two-part series, we continue Mike Blumenfeld’s story of how he became one of New York’s most esteemed business mentors. Mike attributes much of his long-term success to taking charge of his life, having a positive mindset, and consistently delivering on his promises. Hear how Mike shifted gears and started helping entrepreneurs throughout the country achieve success. Discover an action you can take to infuse some of Mike’s sage advice into your life.

Action Principles

Prioritize family. Make more time for people you consider "family": your spouse, children, relatives, and close friends. When you prioritize your loved ones, your work quality will also benefit. ACTION: Schedule family activities in your calendar and treat them as you would any other commitment. Network. You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to gain value from networking with others. The relationships you build can be valuable regardless of your career. ACTION: Search for networking opportunities in your industry and sign up to attend one.Earn respect. Respect is earned by consistently delivering on your commitments. When you earn respect, you’ll experience more success. ACTION: Schedule commitments in your calendar a few days before the deadline, giving yourself a buffer to complete it on time.Take charge of your life. Life is all about making decisions. Prioritize the choices that will lead to a balanced success. ACTION: When you’re struggling to make a decision, evaluate the pros and cons and commit to the one that best fits your goal.

Special Update: My December Oasis

Thank you for supporting my show through this last season! This is a quick update to let you know I’m going into my December Oasis, where I take a one-month break. During December, there won't be any new episodes. We’ll kick things back into gear for season three in January.

In my book, The Power of Having Fun, I introduce the concept of an Oasis. In short, it’s critical to your productivity to have regular breaks from work.

Here’s how you can create a recurring Oasis pattern in your schedule.

1.     Start small. Try creating a finish line in your day and commit to stop working after that time.

2.     Extend the length of your break. Schedule just one day to do nothing but rest and relax.

3.     Plan ahead of time. Schedule a longer vacation, perhaps a week, months in advance so you can prepare and be ready to enjoy it.

If you have comments about the show, or suggestions for an excellent future guest, please drop us an email at listen@successproject.show. I would love to hear from you!

I look forward to sharing more successful journeys and actionable tips with you next season.

Passive Income and Expenses - The Crenshaw Family

Join my family as we discuss the success principle of passive income and expenses. Together, my kids and I define how our attention connects to income and expenses. We discuss why understanding both concepts is an important aspect of balanced success.

We discuss the myth of passive income and how low-attention income is the true goal. And then, we share various ideas to create low-attention income, as well as different kinds of passive expenses to look out for in the future.

Action Principle

Find a low-attention income source. Low attention income can help supplement your primary source of income and help you find a healthy work-life balance. ACTION: Schedule time to think about low-attention income sources that might work for you.Minimize passive expenses. Passive expenses will slowly eat away at your budget with little to no return. ACTION: Schedule time to review your passive expenses and determine which ones no longer fit your needs.
