Comment on Go West: How The Frontier Makes All The Difference (A 5 Year Retrospective) by Jesse Sussman
Inspiring post Taylor. It’s easy to forget how privileged and lucky we are right now, able to choose our territory instead of having it randomly determined at birth. All ready to tackle the new frontiers, not so sure about the snails though

Such a great piece. One that I find shocking relevant in my own life as I ruminate over my own ‘frontier.’ I plan, as you so, to Go West very soon. Thanks for showing that it is possible still. Sometimes I feel like this path is too “in” right now, but I think that is just the resistence in my head keeping me from change and complexity. I plan to lean into that. Thanks for giving me the courage.

Great post Taylor. Must be, because you actually gave me the Ho Chi Minh City pang.

I agree with the metaphorical concept, but doing this physically requires a lot of courage, especially when you have a family. I’m a serial entrepreneur and this is the most difficult challenge, balancing sustaining your family (and corresponding work to do that), with being an entrepreneur, especially while building up the business. In some ways its worse that I have a high opportunity cost so its a significant investment of my time for short term vs longer term gain.

I haven’t come across anything comparing the ideas of all those authors at the same time. I have a couple of essays that are half written, but mostly it’s just the notes I scribbled in the margins of the book as I read it.
Do you think there would actually be an interested audience for that topic?
