Countdown to Release: Blurb

I’m launchinga series of posts that will lead up to the eventual release of The Hills of Home. Today, we have the blurb for the back of the book. It’s not new, in fact you can find it elsewhere on this site, but I quite like it and I think it’s a fine introduction to […]

SPFBO 2.0

It’s pronounced Sp-fee-bo. Actually, it’s not. It’s the SPFBO, or Self-Published Fantasy Blog Off, and I’m pleased to say thatThe Blood-Tainted Winter is taking part! Super-Duper Productivity

Guys. I made a Wordle. Not just one Wordle. Many. So many. Too many. I wasted about an hour of my time messing around with font and layout and color and OH MY GOSH IT WAS SO WORTH IT. I’ll leave a few here (how could I choose just one?!) for you to admire. They’re […]

Update: The Hills of Home

I received initial designs for cover art forThe Hills of Homeyesterday andthings are looking really, really good. I got the email while checking on some tickets at the Garrick and had to hold an impromptu huddle on the sidewalk with my friend, and even there, under the bright glare of the sun, within the confines […]

Name: [fill in the blank]

Someone recently asked me how I go about naming my characters, whether I find it difficult, whether the name or the personality comes first, whether I sacrifice weekly or quarterly to the name gods,* you get the idea. I think my answer to this has shifted over time. I used to agonize over a character’s […]

Things I’ve Learned In London v 2.0

Hard to believe, but I’ve been living in London for just over six months now. (!!) Back at the beginning of November, I had learned some things about living here. And I thought that six weeks had taught me a lot. I wasn’t wrong, exactly, but we’ve reached a different level now. You CAN buy […]

How I Spent My Friday Afternoon

I just spent an hour and a half on the floor of Waterstones hunched over a heavy, 608 page book. Well, first I tried to sit on a tiny, uncomfortable window seat (possibly not actually meant for sitting on), but the floor soon seemed like a better idea. I strained my neck. I got a […]
