I am a 76-year-old PhD weapons scientist still working full time, who wrote this book in his spare time. My only qualification is that WWI created WWII, which created the Cold War, which gave me my job. A lifetime in the shadow of the Cold War has given me my preoccupation with Russia as the Central Asian power against which the West has pushed for the last century. My father was a Professor of English, who claimed that scientists were illiterate, which is not altogether wrong, but I did learn the basics that allowed me to write this. As a Medievalist, he always compared scientists with priests.
