No, you have to be Zen about them. Once the book is out there it's out of your control. If there's every anything constructive in the review I keep that in mind, otherwise I might sulk for a bit silently, or laugh with other writers about their negative reviews, or, probably healthier, just stop reading them. Hi Katie,

Hi Katie. So glad you stumbled! Cheers!! I do use outlines, not because they come naturally to me but because my editor requires them. Since I've been doing them now for years, I see how helpful they can be, especially in murder mysteries. However, I do allow the book to veer from the outline, especially if something new pops up that makes for a better story. So my answer would be definitely try it but allow yourself flexibility as well.(less)

I Normally Don't Do This But...

Hi everyone,

I normally don't comment on bad reviews or low star reviews, but I'm breaking the rule for one reason. My upcoming MURDER IN AN IRISH COTTAGE hadn't even been turned in yet when the 2-Star review went up. When you work so hard on something and are exciting about it, it's really hard to fathom why a reader would pretend they've read something, and then go on to disparage it. I'm look... "I do not want to visit Ireland anymore! Perhaps I'm too sensitive, and this is only just one book, but the constant feed of "American, go home, we don't want you here," really got to me. I am, however, taking this as a sign of what a gifted storyt..." Read more of this review »

"When I decided to try this book with the rather plain cover and the title that makes it sound a bit vintage, I expected your run-of-the mill, average mystery. I was amazed when I discovered a true treasure inside.
