Lint Is Not Your Friend

I have two events today here in beautiful Arizona. Details about them, and then I'll tell you about our hotel-on-fire experience of three nights ago.

First, however, thanks to TourTron for putting me at the Biltmore, which is a gorgeous Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired hotel and spa. Not just inspired by him, he also consulted on the design. I love me some FLW.

Here are the event details:

Interview with Keith

There's a cool interview with Keith Thompson, the artist for Leviathan, over at Tor's Steampunk Month!

Keith at work on Leviathan

Here's a quote from the interview about researching the images:

What kind of research did you do for the book, either for artistic inspiration or for historical details?
"It's a bit dangerous for me when the setup is as interesting as WWI. I actually had to pull back a bit as my research was taking away time from the art at points and it was making me far too...

Steampunk Cakes!

You know what makes any sub-genre better? CAKES, that's what!

Perhaps it's not surprising, given that October is Steampunk Month, but one of my favorite blogs, Cake Wrecks, is all about the steampunk this week. Normally Cake Wrecks covers only weird, horrible cakes, but apparently everything steampunk is GOOD:

Romantic Times Interview

A while ago I did a series of interviews with Romantic Times, about illustrations in Leviathan, writing YA, and living and working with Justine. They're up on YouTube now, so I thought I'd share them with you while I'm out on tour.

Enjoy.

Thanks to everyone at Romantic Times for a great interview.

By the way, I'll be doing a signing (only, no presentation) at Costco in Portland tomorrow. Hope to see some of you there.

On Tour

Well, Leviathan has been out for almost 24 hours, and I have been on tour for a whole day. Kind of tired already, though it's been great to see so many of you.

Sarah and I had a great afternoon at the Santa Monica Library. Thanks to everyone who came, and especially to all the teen journalists who asked us such excellent questions in the press conference beforehand.

As you may remember, it's Steampunk Month over at Tor.com, and they just posted an interview with me about Leviathan. Click here...

Leviathan Art – The Grand Map

Here we are, two days before Leviathan comes out, and I've just realized that it's the beginning of a new month. That means it's time to reveal one last piece of Keith Thompson's wonderful art!

This is an illustration that we call THE GRAND MAP! And it comes with a story:

As I was writing Leviathan, and the characters began to wind their way across Europe, a wise editor of mine suggested that we might want to put a map in the book. I agreed, of course, because all the best novels have maps in t...

The Wobbler, The Brick

Four things:

One: As you may remember, Leviathan is coming out on Tuesday, a mere three days from now.

But there is another object going on sale that very same day. I call it "the brick," because it looks like this:

The brick contains all four books in the Uglies series—Uglies, Pretties, Specials, and Extras! And they all live together in a lovely box that references all four covers. I love me a slipcase.

Two: Simon & Schuster Canada sent me this amusing steampunk video on how to install a...

Much Stuff!

With Leviathan a mere FOUR DAYS AWAY in the US and Canada, there is much stuff to cover.

First: If you live in Toronto and want to see me, Cassie Clare, and Holly Black on November 6, you will need tickets! I guess the event is going to be wicked huge, so they rented a church, which costs money. Admission is five Canadian bucks, and you can buy the tickets right here. You can also pay at the door, if there's any room left!

Friday November 6th 7:00PM
Trinity St. Paul's United Church
