Graydon: Authoritarians Cannot Admit ErrorComment of the Day
Graydon: The Post-Trump GOP Is Likely to Be Even Worse https://www.bradford-delong.com/2020/08/steve-m-_the-post-trump-gop-is-likely-to-be-even-worse_-the-lincoln-project-i-believe-the-projects-founders-a.html?cid=6a00e551f0800388340264e2ec1555200d#comment-6a00e551f0800388340264e2ec1555200d: This is one of those cases of making a simple thing complicated. Authoritarians cannot admit error; it's structurally surrender in authoritarian contexts. The cultural GOP is authoritarian and committed for generations to a great many policies they can no longer avoid describing as errors should they retain any allegiance to the utility of facts. So you get a complete refusal to deal with facts. Because this refusal exists in context of really effective communications, the common fabulations retain political meaning on sheer numbers. It's emergent; its unpredictable. It's generally entirely bonkers. But it is a consensus .#commentoftheday #2020-08-06

Smith: Coronavirus Relief: Republicans in DisarrayNoted
The House Republicans caucus could not govern when they were in the majority. The House was then run by a caucus composed of non-Tea Party Republicans negotiating with Nancy Pelosi, so that she would give permission for enough Democrats to vote for a bill to make up a majority.
Now it looks like Mitch McConnell has decided that his Senate caucus has the same degree of dysfunction: it looks as though he will sign on to whatever economy-rescue bill Pelosi agrees on with Mnuchin.
Here Karl Smith gives his take on how that happened:
Karl W. Smith: Coronavirus Relief Bill Has Republicans in Disarray https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-07-22/coronavirus-relief-bill-has-republicans-in-disarray: The pandemic has left GOP lawmakers deeply splintered, not just over tactics or strategy but on basic principles. There are roughly four factions...
...If they dont find a way to heal their fractures, U.S. workers and the overall economy will suffer even more.... Republicans... have traditionally supported government-led action and unrestrained spending only to battle foreign foes; with some notable exceptions, they have preferred to leave domestic issues to the private sector or the states....
The pandemic has pushed [one] group over the edge. Congress has spent almost half as much fighting Covid-19 over the last four months as it spent in nearly 20 years fighting the war on terror.... They are not prepared to spend another dime....
There is another group... that sees the main issue as the reckless promiscuity of the original Cares Act... that... gave potentially hundreds of billions of dollars to people who didnt need it and created an unemployment insurance system that paid people not to work....
A third faction continues to believe that Covid-19 should be treated as external threat and that the full force of the U.S. government should be enlisted against it. That means more money for public health, schools and biomedical research, as well as continuing aid for struggling workers and businesses....
Lastly, there are a few senators who are not enthusiastic about more spending, but could tolerate it if it were accompanied by longer-term measures to help the economy....
Bringing them all together will require what the party is most lacking right now: a clear vision of how get out of this crisis with as little death and devastation as possible.... What that vision might consist of is anyones guess

Lemieux: Botching Pandemic Response Bad for Incumbent PresidentNoted
Republican Death Cult: Scott Lemieux: BREAKING! Completely Botching Pandemic Response Not Good for Incumbent President https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2020/08/breaking-completely-botching-pandemic-response-not-good-for-incumbent-president: On one level, its depressing that this isnt costing him more support[. But] he has almost no margin for error.... And in states where he goes down hell take Republican Senate candidates with him. And if thats not enough, the decision by Senate Republicans to interrupt unemployment benefits and delay relief is highly likely to make the political situation for Trump and his Senate candidates even worse. As Ive said before, this is a case where for once the interests of the Republican Party and the public interest are directly aligned and theyre completely fucking it up anyway .#noted #2020-08-05
Hunt: Galadriel, Gimli, & FeanorNoted
The Kinda Socially Isolated Ghost of Henry Hunt: 'This, and Galadriel dropping a burn so sick Feanor https://twitter.com/EvanCooney0717/status/1290728350504423435 had to go lie down for another thousand years in the Halls of Mandos, are two moments that are SO much better with full context...
...Capn' Case: Wait what? I forget that part of the tome lad can ye refresh me?
The Kinda Socially Isolated Ghost of Henry Hunt: Ok. Short, short version. Feanor lived Galadriel, his cousin, a bit more than was appropriate, and she found this creepy. He asked her for a stand of hair three times that he could make a work of art from it for his own aggrandizement. Galadriel refused three times.
When the Fellowship comes to town, she has no gift for Gimli, and bids him ask for anything. He refuses, she presses, and he humbly says that if he HAS to ask he would ask only for a single stand of her hair that he might fix it in amber to remember her beauty.
Galadriel gives him three.
Capn' Case: Blimey, that be a shot across the bow he shan't soon forget! Thanks for speakin' yer gospel to me lad. I liked the context

Cooney: Lore Context & Gandalf v. BalrogNoted
Evan Cooney: 'I was asked to do a thread https://twitter.com/EvanCooney0717/status/1290728350504423435 on why lore context for Gandalfs fight with the Balrog in the Lord of the Rings is so important and makes the scene much more intense and powerful than first impression. So here we go...
...Lets focus on what is said. To keep this post relatable, Ill stick with the lines from the Peter Jackson movies instead of getting too deep with the books, also Jackson does the scene justice IMO: I am a servant of the secret fire is a reference to the secret fire of Illuvatar, the monotheistic god of the Tolkien universe. The secret fire refers to his power to give life. Here, Gandalf reveals and identifies himself as not an old decrepit wizard, but one of the Maia.
The Maia are a class of beings that you could think of as angels in the Tolkien universe. There are Maia that chose to stay good and Maia that chose to side with the evil Melkor (story for another thread), much like angels and fallen angels. Sauron is the strongest of the Maia. Balrogs were also Maia that had sided with the darkness. So I am a servant of the secret fire is Gandalf identifying himself as a Maia that remained good, revealing his power and his authority.
Let's move on to the dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Udun or Utumno was the first fortress of Melkor, the original dark lord and Saurons master, it is where orcs and all matter of evil creatures were first made. So Im referring to the Balrog as flame of udun Gandalf is saying, I know exactly who, and what you are.
And for the last line Im going to take the line from the books because it's more powerful, Gandalf establishes himself as the Balrogs good counterpart, and executes his authority over it by saying YOU CANNOT PASS. This line is deep, and powerful.
You cannot pass isn't Gandalf saying Im not going to let you pass. It's Gandalf saying, You do not have the authority to pass as in: there are greater forces at work and providence will not allow you to stop us. Tolkiens personal belief in divine providence in our world affected his writings. This taking authority over evil that Gandalf executes is so inspiring and fills me with awe and I cant help but think of comparisons in our own walk through life.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Makridis: Impact of COVID-19 on Child CareNoted
What is happening during the coronavirus plague to work-life balance among those with small children? Some preliminary answers: Umair Ali, Chris M. Herbst, & Christos A. Makridis: The Impact of COVID-19 on the U.S. Child Care Market: Evidence from Stay-at-Home Orders https://equitablegrowth.org/working-papers/the-impact-of-covid-19-on-the-u-s-child-care-market-evidence-from-stay-at-home-orders/: This paper quantifies the short-run impact of... containment policies on search behavior and labor demand for child care.... Using plausibly exogenous variation from the staggered adoption of SAHOs across states, we find that online job postings for early care and education teachers declined by 13% after enactment... driven exclusively by private-sector services. Indeed, hiring by public programs like Head Start and pre-kindergarten has not been influenced by SAHOs. In addition, we find little evidence that child care search behavior among households has been altered. Because forced supply-side changes appear to be at play, our results suggest that households may not be well-equipped to insure against the rapid transition to the production of child care. We discuss the implications of these results for child development and parental employment decisions .#noted #2020-08-05

Drake: Police & Motorcycle Jackets in Chapel Hill, NCNoted
How to talk about Black Lives Matter to old rural white men with guns: a MasterClass from a master writer:
David Drake: Newsletter #115 http://david-drake.com/2020/newsletter-115/: The Chapel Hill police force doesnt have a bad reputation for brutality (the way the Minneapolis police have since I lived in the Midwest decades ago)...
...Some years ago a fellow ran a red light and just about killed me. Instead of letting it go, I called the policefrom the mall where I was going to pick up a rose for my wife on our anniversary. (This was before I had a cell phone. It was a stupid over reaction on my part, but I thought of the police as my friendsand I was hot about the drivers behavior.) Officer Steve Riddle wasnt one of the policemen I knew personally but when he pulled up to the curb I walked over to greet him. His response was to shout, Back up Cowboy! and arrest and handcuff me. In the magistrates office Officer Riddle lied that I was carrying a concealed weapon.
(Most bike riders carry a folding knife on their belt. I instead had an AG RussellSting with a 3 fixed blade clipped to the side pocket of my trousers.) I went a lawyer whom I knew and liked. The case was dismissed in court.
I dont mean all Chapel Hill police would have behaved that way (in fact a couple of them looked me up to apologize for Steve Riddles behavior). I was wearing a motorcycle jacket rather than a business suit. But a black cant change his skin color because he expects to come into contact with the police, and Steve Riddle isnt unique among the police youre going to meet. There are some who are willing to choke to death someone who committed no crime.
(George Floyd attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. There was no evidence of intent. Do you have a dud twenty in your wallet? Im damned if I know whether all of mine are good.)
So thats my story.
It doesnt involve any brutality: just a policeman who jumped to conclusions and arrested a man whod called for police help. Thats not a mistake Ive made since. Incidentally I was very polite throughout the business. Officer Riddle had already demonstrated his willingness to lie; if he shot me in the back I was sure he could find an exculpatory lie for that also.
I am neither liberal nor PC, but I have quite a lot of sympathy for black people who live in Minneapolis. Or for that matter, in Chapel Hill, NC.

Bob Kuttner Behaving BadlyNoted
I have learned an awful lot from and have a great deal of respect for Robert Kuttner. America owes him a great dealmuch more than it knows. But. Thisrarely for himis stupid.
First of all, it is written as if Biden has it in the bag, and Trump will be a bad dream as of January 21, 2021. Lots and lots of people in the fall of 2016 thought that HRC had it in the bag, and so started to nibble away to undermine her in order to position themselves more advantageously for 2017. Here is Kuttner doing the same thing for 2021. It's a bad, immoral thing to do. Stop it. Biden does not have it in the bag.
Second, everybody whom Biden appoints will be to the left of the governing coalition in the Senate, which is the veto point here. Thus whether Biden's appointees make Robert Kuttner happy in meetings and when he contemplates their influence does not matter. What does matter is whether Biden's appointees execute so that things get up to the Senate, and whether they are able via popular mobilization and clever framing and legislative tactics to move the governing coalition to the left. I understand that Kuttner does not like Jennifer Hillman and Miriam Sapiro. I understand that Kuttner does not like Steve Ricchetti and Anita Dunn. I understand that Robert Kuttner does not like Sergio Aguirre and Nitin Chadda and Michele Flournoy and Tony Blinken. In a different day, with a different Senate, I could be persuaded that some of all of them would be bad choices for a Biden administration. But not today. That Kuttner does not like them is at best orthogonal to whether Biden should pick them:
Robert Kuttner: The Trouble With Bidens Big Tent https://prospect.org/politics/the-trouble-with-biden-big-tent/: It papers over some irreconcilable differences of policy and principle. Sooner or later, Biden will have to choose which side hes on...
...There is also the case of Bidens very progressive policy proposals and his not so progressive senior campaign team. As Ive previously written regarding his highly detailed releases on industrial policy, infrastructure and jobs, they are terrific.... Meanwhile, however, his closest-in advisers are mostly centrist Democratic operatives closely associated with all that was wrong with the Obama and Clinton years. Steve Ricchetti, a top campaign aide and former Biden chief of staff, is a Wall Street guy and a lobbyist. Anita Dunn, the campaigns chief strategist, is also a longtime corporate lobbyist.
As Jonathan Guyer reported in an investigative piece for the Prospect, recently lifted without credit by The New York Times (shame!), Bidens foreign-policy team is both orthodox and riddled with conflicts of interest. In one true progressive in Bidens inner circle is his longtime Senate chief of staff, Ted Kaufman.... But its not clear how much influence Kaufman has today in Bidens inner, inner circle

Deplorably, the Trump Movement Is Made Up of Grifters, Ghouls, & Their Victims
Deplorably, a large number of easily-grifted morons thought Trump was their friendor at least that the people lower down in the Trump base were their prey to be scammed...
Back in 2015, I concluded that the Donald Trump campaign was a deplorable multi-level marketing scam. At the top, a few grifters running lots of cons. In the middle-levels, a bunch of people who thought that they could take advantage of the situation to get richor richerbut who were actually easily-grifted morons themselves. And at the bottom, people who thought that Trump was their friend, rather than viewing them as suckers he could take.
Nothing I have seen since has changed that opinion of mine.
Deplorably, one of the easily-grifted morons in the middle was former Godfather's Pizza executive and Republican politician Herman Cain:
On June 20, 2020, Herman Cain was boasting that he was having a "fantastic time" at Donald Trump's massless, non-social distancing Tulsa rally:
Trump had required attendees to: "acknowledg[e]... that an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By attending the Rally, you and any guests voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold Donald J. Trump for President, Inc.; BOK Center; ASM Global; or any of their affiliates, directors, officers, employees, agents, contractors, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury..."
On June 24, 2020, Herman Cain wrote, with respect to the public-health emergency measures of March and April: 'Never again. We now have the evidence it didn't help at all...'
On July 1, 2020, Herman Cain wrote very approvingly of Trump's next rally: 'Masks will not be mandatory for the [Mt. Rushmore] event, which will be attended by President Trump. PEOPLE ARE FED UP!: South Dakota Governor: "We will not be social distancing. Were asking them to come, be ready to celebrate, to enjoy the freedoms and the liberties that we have in this country, and to talk about our history...'
Also on July 1, 2020 Herman Cain was hospitalized for coronavirus. On July 30, 2020, life support measures were discontinued, and Herman Cain died.
At some point the 'Masks will not be mandatory... PEOPLE ARE FED UP!' Post on twitter was deleted from Herman Cain's account.
After his hospitalization, Herman Cain's twitter account was run by a rather cynical gang of ghouls.
On one track:
2020-07-02: There is no way of knowing for sure how or where Mr. Cain contracted the coronavirus.... With God's help, we are confident he will make a quick and complete recovery.... Dan [Calabrese] here: Herman has just begun the process of kicking COVID-19's ass.... 2020-07-03: Good morning! @RobertLaurie here with good news. We just received a message from HC. His oxygen levels are improving, he's had no complications from the meds, and hes in no pain. We're grateful to God and for your prayers. Keep them coming! We're confident Herman will back soon!... 2020-07-05: Update: Herman wants to thank everyone for praying for him. It's making a difference. He's still in the hospital but he's making progress and we expect to hear more encouraging news.... Keep them coming! God is listening.... 2020-07-07: He's still in an Atlanta-area hospital, where doctors are trying to make sure his oxygen levels are right. This is a tough virus, but we serve a tougher God.... Please continue praying.... 2020-07-10: Herman... describes the current process as "cruise control" because the progress is slow but his breathing is getting stronger every day. Make no mistake: He is improving!... 2020-07-15: We want to give you a quick update.... The doctors like the progress he's makingalthough it's still slow and requires much patience. If he continues to progress at the same pace, they will probably get a little more proactive today.... Also, he was irritated they wouldn't let him have a Snickers bar. That's our boss!... 2020-07-27: He is still in the hospital being treated with oxygen.... His other organs and systems are strong. Re-strengthening the lungs is a long and slow process, and the doctors want to be thorough about it.... We're glad the doctors are being thorough and making sure they do the job right.... He really is getting better, which means it is working...
Progress, all the time, since July 1. So much winning.
On the other track, we had lots of things like these:
2020-07-03: There are magic-bullet drugs to fight coronavirus that the so-called experts do not want you to have: 'More being discovered about the positive results from Hydroxychloroquine...'
2020-07-06: We have to take the hit: accept lcoronavirus deaths for the sake of jobs, profits, and businesses: 'White House's new message on COVID: We need to live with it, because we can't keep shutting everything down.... This is the right message.... Power-mad governors... restrict everything from gardening to singing in church. Its destroyed tens of millions of jobs.... Trump said early on (and was blasted for saying) that we had to be careful not to make the solution worse than the problem. That is exactly what we did.... The so-called experts were people who know about infectious diseases and not much else. They didnt care about jobs being lost and companies going under. They didnt care about the price people would pay...
2020-07-06: The leftist Jews are coming to take your stuff away: 'The patron saint of anti-American leftists has loosened up his purse strings: Soros is doubling down on election influence...'
2020-07-07: The so-called experts are wrong: the coronavirus plague is almost over: 'Maybe it's not true that no one had immunities. In fact, it would explain a lot. #Coronavirus: Some studies suggest we're much closer to herd immunity than the 'experts' think, because of T-cells...'
2020-07-08: Stop thinking about having the government support the economy to keep unemployment from going higher: 'More free money! Even Mitch McConnell appears resigned to it. #MitchMcConnell #Stimulus...'
2020-07-15: Joe Biden is a mental vegetable: 'Joe Biden is a barely coherent puppet that will do the bidding of whoever the real President is. He will say, or do, whatever the Marxist base of his party tells him to do...'
2020-07-15: Gavin Newsom is overreacting to coronavirus because he hates religion: 'Unconstitutional. When will the people of California have had enough?: "Newsom shuts down California churches indefinitely...'
2020-07-22: Canada's Justin Trudeau is overreacting to coronavirus because he hates Donald Trump: 'Canada denied the Blue Jays request... [for] frequent travel back and forth from the United States, where COVID-19 cases are surging.... Some people are speculating that Trudeau turned the Blue Jays down as a way to stick a finger in the eye of Donald Trump, as if to say, Were not letting people into our country from that dirty place where Trump is letting the virus get out of control! That seems like an awfully petty motive for denying your countrys one Major League team the chance to play...'
2020-07-23: Really: Stop thinking about having the government support the economy to keep unemployment from going higher: 'What's another 1 trillion among friends? #Coronavirus #DonaldTrump #KevinMcCarthy #MitchMcConnell #NationalDebt #Stimulus: White House, Senate Republicans agree on another 1 trillion spending blowout: Well, this should rocket the 2020 federal budget deficit.... Keep in mind that, when Republicans are willing to spend 1 trillion they dont have, Democrats are going to want to spend 3 trillion. Theyll probably meet in the middle somewhere, like, say, 2.9 trillion. Since Republicans are such great negotiators...'
2020-07-24: The important violations of liberty that I am concerned about are that MLB players are kneeling for the National Anthem: 'If any player is brave enough to dissent from this, he will need lots of prayer. #ColinKaepernick #LosAngelesDodgers #MajorLeagueBaseballMLB #NationalAnthem #NewYorkYankees #PoliceAbuse #Protests #SanFrancisco49ers #SanFranciscoGiants #WashingtonNationals.... I would hate to have to deal with the isolation (and public condemnation) that would come with being the one guy on the team refusing to kneel for the anthem...'
2020-07-27: Really, truly: Stop thinking about having the government support the economy to keep unemployment from going higher: 'Better idea: Repeal the 16th [Income Tax] Amendment and stop doling out mountains of cash that isn't yours in the first place...'
2020-07-29: The experts have been so wrong so many times!: 'Our government, and our media, have incinerated their credibility. So, is it any wonder that people are skeptical? #Coronavirus...'

The kind of dunking on people after they die of COVID is pretty gross. Here's the reality. There are plenty of people dying of this who have been wearing masks and have been being careful. And there are plenty of people in the media who have been quite, shall we say, cavalier about the activities in which people should and should not engage, up to and including mass rallies, so long as they are for the public purposes that so many of our 'elite' like.... @THEHermanCain 2020-07-27: 'We know it's been a few days since we last gave you an update on the boss. But he is still in the hospital being treated with oxygen for his lungs. In the meantime, the doctors say his other organs and systems are strong. Re-strengthening the lungs is a long and slow process, and the doctors want to be thorough about it. We'd like him to be able to come home now, which is frustrating, but we're glad the doctors are being thorough and making sure they do the job right. Thank you for praying, everyone. Please keep doing it. He really is getting better, which means it is working...
@THEHermanCain 2020-07-24: 'If any player is brave enough to dissent from this, he will need lots of prayer. #ColinKaepernick #LosAngelesDodgers #MajorLeagueBaseballMLB #NationalAnthem #NewYorkYankees #PoliceAbuse #Protests #SanFrancisco49ers #SanFranciscoGiants #WashingtonNationals: Why the anthem-kneelers are still wrong, no matter how many people are pressured to do it: There are not many times in my life when Im glad not to be a Major League Baseball player, but this moment is one of them. I would hate to have to deal with the isolation (and public condemnation) that would come with being the one guy on the team refusing to kneel for the anthem...
@THEHermanCain 2020-07-23: 'What's another $1 trillion among friends? #Coronavirus #DonaldTrump #KevinMcCarthy #MitchMcConnell #NationalDebt #Stimulus: White House, Senate Republicans agree on another $1 trillion spending blowout: Well, this should rocket the 2020 federal budget deficit nicely past 4 trillion. Its almost to the point where, if we dont go for 10 trillion, its not even entertaining. Keep in mind that, when Republicans are willing to spend 1 trillion they dont have, Democrats are going to want to spend 3 trillion. Theyll probably meet in the middle somewhere, like, say, 2.9 trillion. Since Republicans are such great negotiators...
@THEHermanCain 2020-07-22: 'At least the Blue Jays aren't scheduled to open at home. Their home opener is on July 29 against the Washington Nationals, but it won't be at home in any..: The season starts in two days, and thanks to Justin Trudeau... the Canadian government has left the Blue Jays homeless.... "Canada denied the Blue Jays request to play at Rogers Centre because the regular-season schedule would require frequent travel back and forth from the United States, where COVID-19 cases are surging.... Some people are speculating that Trudeau turned the Blue Jays down as a way to stick a finger in the eye of Donald Trump, as if to say, Were not letting people into our country from that dirty place where Trump is letting the virus get out of control! That seems like an awfully petty motive for denying your countrys one Major League team the chance to play in your country for an entire year. But thats where things stand...

@THEHermanCain 2020-07-15: 'We want to give you a quick update on the boss's progress battling his COVID symptoms. The doctors like the progress he's making - although it's still slow and requires much patience. If he continues to progress at the same pace, they will probably get a little more proactive today about moving him to some new treatments. Also, he was irritated they wouldn't let him have a Snickers bar. That's our boss! Please keep praying for him.... We made a statement, with attribution, when he first entered the hospital.... And yes, he did ask for a Snickers...

@THEHermanCain 2020-07-10: 'Herman wants to once again thank everyone for your prayers. @THEHermanCain 2020-07-07: 'Herman asked us to let you know again how much he appreciates all your prayers. @THEHermanCain 2020-07-07: 'Maybe it's not true that no one had immunities. In fact, it would explain a lot. #Coronavirus: Some studies suggest we're much closer to herd immunity than the 'experts' think, because of T-cells...

@THEHermanCain 2020-07-06: 'This is a hard message to hear, but there another way forward? #Coronavirus #DonaldTrump #WhiteHouse: White House's new message on COVID: We need to live with it, because we can't keep shutting everything down: Substantively this is the right message. Its the only rational thing the country can do at this point. Conventional wisdom says it will be a very tough sell politically, although I think theres a way to turn that upside down. As it stands, the nation has been judging the wisdom of the anti-virus effort by whether cases, hospitalizations and deaths are going up or down. Down, were doing it right. Up, were doing it wrong. Thats the only measure. What were doing to the economy and to every other facet of peoples lives is not a consideration.... Power-mad governors... restrict everything from gardening to singing in church. Its destroyed tens of millions of jobs. Its decimated sports and leisure activities.... Just about no one who hopes to get votes for anything this year has been willing to say this whole thing has been a mistake. Apparently the Trump Administration, perhaps for want of an alternative, is prepared to be the first.... Trump said early on (and was blasted for saying) that we had to be careful not to make the solution worse than the problem. That is exactly what we did.... The so-called experts were people who know about infectious diseases and not much else. They didnt care about jobs being lost and companies going under. They didnt care about the price people would pay...
@THEHermanCain 2020-07-05: 'Update: Herman wants to thank everyone for praying for him. It's making a difference. He's still in the hospital but he's making progress and we expect to hear more encouraging news as the week progresses. So thank you, everyone, and keep them coming! God is listening...

@THEHermanCain 2020-07-02: 'We are sorry to announce that Herman Cain has tested positive for COVID-19, and is currently receiving treatment in an Atlanta-area hospital. Please keep him, and all who are battling this virus, in your prayers. Our full statement appears below. Updates to follow: "On Monday, June 29, Herman Cain was informed that he had tested positive for coronavirus. By Wednesday, July 1, Mr Cain had developed symptoms serious enough that he retired hospitalization.... Mr. Cain did not require a respirator, and he is awake and alert. There is no way of knowing for sure how or where Mr. Cain contracted the coronavirus.... With God's help, we are confident he will make a quick and complete recovery...
@THEHermanCain 2020-07-02: 'By now, you've probably heard about the new jobs report. The economy added-or at least re-gained-4.8 million jobs in June. That figure absolutely obliterates the official estimate, which suggested only a 2.9 million increase in nonfarm payroll employment.... @THEHermanCain 2020-06-26: 'A short-term, strategic move? Or the start of another lockdown? This is not the news we wanted to give you today. #Coronavirus #GregAbbott #Texas: Uh oh: Texas governor orders all bars closed, restricts outdoor gatherings as COVID cases rise: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has certainly not been one of these governors whos relished the shutdowns and lockdowns. Quite the contrary, he was far less restrictive than many of his peers and was quicker to open things back up. But theres no question Texas is seeing a rise in cases.... Lets continue to hope this doesnt become an excuse for lockdown-happy politicians to take us back to mid-March and April. People are just starting to get their jobs back and return to their lives, and the last thing we need is to once again put tens of millions of people out of work and give Congress an excuse for another $2 trillion spending blowout that incentivizes everyone to stay home and rely on unemployment insurance...
@THEHermanCain 2020-06-26: 'He knows this isn't constitutional. He just doesn't care. #Constitution #Coronavirus #JoeBiden #KamalaHarris: Biden: I would use executive powers to make mask-wearing mandatory in public.... Many presidents push the envelope and try to use executive orders to nullify laws by refusing to enforce them. Thats what DACA is, like it or not. What a presidents executive orders clearly cannot do is mandate that private citizens do a certain thing or behave in a certain way.... the Constitution only limits politicians power to the extent the Constitution is allowed to work. If politicians ignore it and judges refuse to apply it, then we effectively have no Constitution. Maybe you think this is too weighty an argument to make when were just talking about people wearing masks during a pandemic. I disagree. Because once its established that presidents or anyone else can just do whatever they want, they will take full advantage of that newfound power...
@THEHermanCain 2020-06-24: 'Never again. We now have the evidence it didn't help at all. #Coronavirus: Well what do you know? States that didn't lock down have 75 percent lower COVID death rates than those that did: Dan Calabrese: "This could be very useful information in the weeks to come, as the media and 'experts' continue their screeching about a second wave, and issue demands that we must once again lock down for the survival of humanity. These are the people who always tell us they make their decisions based on science and data, right? (Except when it comes to determining a persons gender.) So youd think theyd be interested in the now-available data that compares what happened in the 42 lockdown states compared with the eight who didnt lock down. You want to save lives, right? Apparently the best way to do that is to let people live their lives...
